Aldridge: 4-Way Deal Could Have Been Even Bigger

by Mostafa Khalifa on August 11th, 2010 at 6:48 pm

From David Aldridge (NBA.com):

A league source says the Charlotte Bobcats wanted to get involved as well, using the non-guaranteed contract of center Erick Dampier to try and get a point guard. Under one scenario, Dampier would have gone to Indiana, the team that originally drafted him in 1996, with T.J. Ford going to Toronto and the Raptors sending guard Jose Calderon to Charlotte. (The Raptors had agreed to send Calderon to the Bobcats earlier this summer in a deal that would have sent center Tyson Chandler to Toronto, but the deal was scotched at the last minute by Charlotte owner Michael Jordan.)

lol I really don’t mind other NBA news, as long as it’s not exclusively Timberwolves/Kahn and Heat/LeBron news.

  • HankNight

    I don’t know, I kind of enjoy Timberwolves/Kahn news-it’s good comic relief!

as long as it has some tangential six degrees of separation connection to the knicks im cool.

this is just completely out of left field..

    Dampier/TJ Ford/ Calderon? YAAAAAWN

  • HaS

    “Dampier/TJ Ford/ Calderon?”

Well when you put it that way…

    LOL

yea i gotta agree with big here.. a “could have been” involving erick dampier and tj ford doesn’t warrant a post imo lol

Lol when if first read this my first reaction was that Lamarcus Aldridge was going to possibly be dealt.

I lost respect for Aldridge a long time ago.

@ Blackwood from the last thread. The reason nobody really focused on Collison being traded is because the Knicks no longer have a glaring need for a PG. Honestly, Collison showed flashes of being really good but it was only for a stretch. Nobody knows how good the kid is going to be over 82 games. I’m still not convinced he is a franchise PG or even better than Felton at this point. So how much were we really going to give up for him.

I would probably do a straight up trade involving Chandler but I doubt NO would have taken that and I would not have taken on any salary for him now that we have Felton. No need to jeopardize our cap space or draft picks.

Collison’s stats look uber impressive as a starter until you realize he was playing around 45 minutes with CP3 out. He still looks like a solid NBA PG. But he’s not a 20-10 guy at usual starters minutes.

Indiana has a nice young core with Collison, Stephenson, Granger, and George. They have not win much, but they will be fun to watch.

agree with this whole post. That’s pretty much what I said to Blackwood also, although I can understand wanting Collison.

You forgot Hibbert, but thats pretty good. to rebuild with.

Been away from bball last few days but looking at this trade. Very nice pickup by Bird and the Pacers. They are going to be pesky next year…

I still say when a rook can in his rookie year can match Feltons number best numbers after being in the NBA for 6 years he is proving his upside is far better. We all know we over paid for Felton because he was the best PG on the market. But there is no way u can tell me Chandler & TD would not have been a better offer, the posey contract is expiring and comes off the books plus he is a shooter. but whats done is done i just feel that was a complete blunder thinking long term.

Isn’t this old news? This was a headline last week. Nothing new. Nothing Knicks. Who cares?
