ESPN: Isiah Assuring Melo

by Myles A. Mills on August 19th, 2010 at 10:46 pm

Via ESPN:

Even though Isiah Thomas nixed his consultant gig with the Knicks, it sounds like he’s already doing some “consulting.” According to a team source that spoke with the New York Daily News, Thomas has told James Dolan that Carmelo Anthony will be a Knick next year. It’s safe to say that no matter what official role Thomas has with the team, he’ll always be in the news for advising the boss.

His return is inevitable…

About Myles A. Mills

Myles is a sophomore at The Browning School, an all-boys private school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He's been a Knick fan as long as he can remember, and 02-03 was the last season he could remember in entirety. He hopes to one day see the Knicks in the playoffs. Myles is also fond of the Mets, and follows them vehemently, but his the bulk of his time goes to the Knicks. Myles wants to be a radio hosts on WFAN or ESPN 1050 radio, and he hopes to write for theknicksblog.com for years to come. View all posts by Myles A. Mills →

I want to know where this is coming from. What are the sources for this? It just doesn’t seem like there would be someone who could reliably talk about something like this, unless Isiah was purposely leaking it to the media?

  • clydetheglyde

Does this eliminate the possiblity of trading for Melo, i think it does, thats how much Dolan loves and trusts Isaiah.

  • rmccarthy10

Isiah is a sh;t talker and Dolan, for some reason, is enamored with him.

Isiah has no pull with young players. He’s an irrelevant relic to a 25 yr old.

  • HaS

“Isiah has no pull with young players. He’s an irrelevant relic to a 25 yr old.”

I’m tired of hearing about Isiah as much as the next guy and I think his involvement is being overblown, but I wouldn’t go that far. He was a popular player and is the 2nd best point guard from that era behind Magic. In fact I read somewhere that Chris Paul modeled his game after Isiah’s.

  • JeffM729

Isiah should be careful not to get the Knicks involved with tampering. If he is talking to Melo or his agent and then talking to Dolan, we could see Stern step in and ban Melo from playing with the Knicks.

  • ds2488

Yeah. Even if you hadn’t read that, just watching Chris Paul you see how much he tries to play like Isiah. Same mentality too on the court. Just tough.

HaS said it best there. I’m tired of hearing about Isiah, but he definitely still has some pull with young players.

  • donnie_brasco

I seen that too, he admires him highly actually, maybe Isaiah can convince dolan to hire a defensive coach

  • moderatethis

If he gets us Melo its fine with me if he comes back

  • HaS

“maybe Isaiah can convince dolan to hire a defensive coach”

    LMAO

If he can do that, all is forgiven in my book.

I really would have loved if we could have gotten Sam Mitchell, Terry Porter or Lawrence Frank added to the bench this summer.

If the Knicks can employ a solid defensive scheme it will help with the growing pains of such a young squad.

If they don’t improve drastically next year they’re not making the playoffs.

  • Rod Thorn

I’d rather not get Melo, as long as Isiah doesn’t come back. He was a cancer to the Knick organization.

  • donnie_brasco

agreed, I would highly prefer lawrence frank myself but the others would do as well

  • HaS

    Crazy talk.

  • Pat

Turiaf AR and Felton are all good defensive players. I think it will show in the team defense

  • Pat

    LMAO

  • thebossandbenji76

Lets see where Melo gets traded first before we decide whether he’ll sign the extension with the team he is traded to or if he will go free agent.

  • harris

“His return is inevitable” Of course it is, as well as the excuses we will hear when Melo winds up elsewhere.

yall late with articles i read this 2 days ago

  • Bloop33

“I believe him yo…I don’t know why, I just do”

  • HaS

“Turiaf AR and Felton are all good defensive players. I think it will show in the team defense”

I hope so, but without a solid defensive game plan night in and night out it won’t matter.

Also I hate to be Debbie Downer, but Turiaf probably won’t play extended minutes coming off knee surgery and he’s never played more than 20 mins a night.

Randolph is young and finding his game so he probably won’t play very much off the bat (I hope he does) and will come off the bench.

Felton couldn’t guard Jameer Nelson to save his life in the playoffs last year.

I like AZ defensively, but he also is coming off knee surgery.

I’m hoping Amar’e steps it up and gets over his allergy to defense. Chandler takes the next step in his development and has learned the nuances of defending the perimeter rather than just depending on his athleticism.

  • YO SON

    “His return is inevitable…”

    AHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

matter fact how is it his return when HE NEVER LEFT

    DUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh….

  • bluemax

Thomas has told James Dolan that Carmelo Anthony will be a Knick next year

    next year when?

next year 2011? next year next season meaning oct 2010?

Whatever! if Carmelo really talked to Thomas and meant it then it’s great news because it means he is ready to sign as a FA if necessary. Unless he changes his mind before that of course.

would be perfect. we don’t have to give squat to DEN. We can keep all our assets!

  • Jeff C

It’s not about Isiah as a person; it’s about the knicks as an organization. Stories like this that undermine the real pres will keep us in A state of absurdity…. These stories are so bad for the knicks and our future… If you take this as a race driven ‘thing’ than you are more delusional than roger waters after his last hit of acid. If our organization keeps making stories like this we will never become a legit, respected team. Maybe in some cases a good winning team can change the franchise in general but somehow i don’t see us becoming a normal respectable business. i’m not talking about our abilities, just the fact that nobody has anything to lean on.

  • Mel0knicks9

Most of Ny media makes me sick they take shots at our rosters rather then sayin bood thing and boost there value.

  • k-hodge

God, I feel like an abused spouse…I just sit here and cry “Why won’t he just go awayyyyyy…?” LMAO

  • swishinndishin

He’s not going to get traded unless he agrees to sign an extension with the team he’s being traded to. No GM in their right mind will give up very much unless they know they can lock him up. If he’s a rental, the Nuggets won’t get much back. Best case scenario assuming Melo really wants the Knicks is that he tells the Nuggets, “trade me to NY or I will refuse to sign an extension, no matter where else you tried to trade me.”
