Yahoo: Melo Likes Houston; Denver Post: Clips In Mix?

by Chris Alvino on August 24th, 2010 at 9:03 am

AW over at Yahoo Sports cites a source that believes that Melo’s desire to play in NY is overstated and that he is in fact more interested in playing in Houston.  From Yahoo:

“Anthony has hesitated to sign a three-year, $65 million extension and expressed intrigue with opting out of his contract next summer to become a free agent. Despite significant speculation the New York Knicks are the team that Anthony would most likely want to join, two sources close to him insisted the Knicks have been overstated as an object of his desire. Privately, Anthony has expressed more enthusiasm over joining the Houston Rockets than the Knicks, sources said.”

Houston is a real possibility in the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes if such sweepstakes ever take place.  As Knicks’ fans know, the Rockets have a lot of assets, including youth and future draft picks.  Some of those assets are former Knicks assets.

Also, another team that can jump into the mix might be the LA Clippers.  According to the Denver Post:

“Meanwhile, if the Nuggets cannot convince to sign an extension with the team and they decide to trade him at some point, could it be to the Los Angeles Clippers? I’m hearing it could be a possibility. It would get both he and his wife, La La, out to where entertainment opportunities are plentiful, which is key factor in their decision to want to move on. The Nuggets might be able to get a good young player or two or draft picks, and Anthony would be able to play on a team with some good up-and-coming talent.”

In my opinion, the Clippers might be able to offer the best package for Carmelo Anthony if they were to package Chris Kaman in a deal.  The Nuggets are desperate for big men and Kaman is an all-star center.  Would giving up Kaman and say Eric Gordon be too much for the Clippers to give away?  For a top 10 talent and for a franchise that has been in the dumps for years, passing on Melo would be a tough pill to swallow.  That is of course if he would consent to an extension of course.

The Nuggets wouldn’t trade him to another team in the West unless they were straight up robbing the Clips or Houston. Also no f’ing way Carmelo Anthony wants to sign with LAC, a team that makes NYK look like a model franchise.

  • Showstopper232

Its official.. Melo aint goin any where he’s gunna sign that extension with the nuggets. there no way he prefers Houston and the CLIPPERS??? basketball has turned into such a soap-opera!!

  • Chris Alvino

    Yeah it really has.

  • Chris Alvino

I would prefer Gordon and Kaman to essentially anything the Knicks could offer.

  • bmathews77

Wojnarowski’s (Yahoo) sources also said LeBron was “leaning hard” towards the Bulls. I think the media likes pushing stuff like this. I’m not buying any of these rumors. I’ll wait to see what Carmelo Anthony wants to do when he becomes a free agent next year.

  • peeg

I think the yahoo guy is working for the nuggets.

  • HaS

IF he’d sign an extension with the Rockets that would be the best deal the Nuggets could get barring a 3 team trade. Period. I think they would have to overlook the fact that they’re in the same conference considering the package that they could get, especially with NY driving up the price. Young players, draft picks and expirings (some of it former property of the Knicks). Morey is a shark.

  • peeg

And why exactly would he like Houston better? A chance to play with a broken down Yao? It doesn’t seem like a better basketball situation, he’s not from Houston, so what? Someone make an argument why Houston would be the place for him?

  • HaS

I think the split amongst Lebron’s team misled a lot of good reporters during FA this year. Wes and Mav were pulling in different directions, Chicago and NY that’s why the reports were all over the place.

  • KnickFan4Life

Apparently Knicks are the only team in the league with no up and coming young talent…

It’s amazing how Knicks practically turned over their roster completely yet the press still talks about them like nothing has changed…

  • HaS

The arguments have been given more than a few times. Hint: There’s a good one in the last thread.

  • KnickFan4Life

I honestly had not thought of the Clips as an option for Melo. They make sense for him though…

  • peeg

    HaS,
I agree that Houston is the best for the Nuggets probably, but AJ’s sources say Carmelo likes Houston best? That doesn’t make sense to me and it’s why I think he is a fiction writer

  • peeg

    *AW

  • HaS

I think the issue is draft picks and also there’s a lot of potential here, but unproven talent.

  • brookdon

Where did you see the Melo was going to sign the extension?

As flossy already stated, why would the Nuggets trade in the western conference, why would melo move farther away from NY, why would he not wanna play with an elite bigman ( no way Yao comes back at full strength) Why would someone from NY want to live in Texas (if you are a new yorker it’s a HUGE difference). If the reports were of the Mavs I wouldn’t be surprised because they are a great team built to win now and with Melo are a championship team. The Rockets have a lot of question marks, especially at center.

I still say Knicks Magic, Bulls, Nets

Plus Amare most likely in Melos ear telling him to play for the Knicks. What’s Melo going to say ( I would rather play wit Yao Ming rather than in my hometown with you Amare). The only thing that hurts us is putting up a competitive offer.

It would be ironic however if the rockets use Jordan Hill and our picks along with Jeffries to get Carmelo.

  • brookdon

Bosh admitted to misleading the media about his destination.

  • HaS

Well there hasn’t been one single solitary report from Carmelo or even his wife’s mouth and it’s all been “sources”or “people close to the situation” etc., so imho it all has to be taken with a grain of salt.

I doubt he gets traded without a GM in place who certainly will want a sit down and an opportunity to sway his decision and convince him to stay in the only place he’s known professionally.

  • jaknicksfan

This is all getting tiring to hear and read about, we have some promising young players on this team and all we hear about is other players, please lets start the season already!

  • gianthinker

    Please come to the Knicks.

  • brookdon

    Clippers ownership is terrible.

    Davis
    Warren?
    Melo
    Aminu
    Griffin

Pretty decent I guess. Still second fiddle to the Lakers.

  • peeg

I looked in the last thread and thats’ not an argument, that’s a starting lineup that is not even as good as the Denver team he’s on now.

  • thebossandbenji76

If the Clippers are offering Gordon and Kaman for Anthony and the rockets are offering a couple #1′s(one of them ours that we gave them) and Jordan Hill and along with Jefferies’ expiring contract and Battier’s expiring contract, we would have to offer Gallo, Randolph, Curry’s expiring and a future #1 to have any chance at all. When this guy gets traded somewhere else, i wait till the trade deadline and see who is out of it, if one of the teams is the suns, i see if i can get Steve Nash from Phx for Douglas, Chandler and Curry’s contract. I don’t want tony parker in free agency and Yao ming is a huge question mark, and JR SMITH, Vince Carter and jason richardson in free agency does not do much for me as well.

  • brookdon

    http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22748484/24015455

I didn’t make much of it, but his wife said that NY is an option and talks about how he love MSG. Kinda like LBJ did.

  • KnickFan4Life

True and I’m sure Denver is looking to get as many teams involved in order to secure the best offer. But again Melo would have to be convinced to sign that extension, that’s a big power control there for Melo and his camp.

  • KnickFan4Life

I saw the last thread. But do you all really believe Rockets could pull of a trade without having to give up Scola, Martin or Brooks or some combo of those guys. That’s just crazy and plus remember the #’s have to work…

  • Jon

When will the season start already… So tired of rumors and nonsense… Looking forward to recapping games and player progression/performance… Finally looking forward to finally following a playoff race and WAITING for all these rumors to stop after the past 2 years… Can’t wait until the players finally hit the court!

  • brookdon

Rank these lineups in order IYO

    Felton Buike Melo Stat Randolph
    Davis, Warren?, Melo, Aminu, Griffin
    Billups, Smith, Melo, Martin, Nene
    Brooks, Martin, Melo, Scola, Ming
    Harris Morrow Melo Favors Lopez

  • brookdon

    I say

    Nuggets
    Knicks
    Rockets
    Nets
    Clippers

  • KnickFan4Life

Maybe as fans we overanalyze the impact of wives or girlfriends. Lebrons girl from what we hear hates Miami and he still went there. Also we heard about all the ties Lebron had to Ohio family wise in the end it didn’t mean sh**. So basically in the end these guys are going to do them so as fans you have to stand back and realize it’s not lock at all that someone is coming to your team…

  • HaS

“As flossy already stated, why would the Nuggets trade in the western conference”

The best deal for their franchise would be a reason, you don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. This is a business.

“why would melo move farther away from NY”

I’m sorry, is Denver closer to NY?

“why would he not wanna play with an elite bigman”

Amar’e has more highlights, but Scola is very good player at the same position. Anthony being a scorer he doesn’t need to be in a lineup with another forward who wants to score as much as he does. What he wants is a different story maybe, but playing with a good passing, dirty work, High IQ, hustling big man who can hit the J and score around the basket like Scola would be perfect for his game.

“Why would someone from NY want to live in Texas”

He’s been in Denver for 7 years, Texas is also a “HUGE” difference from Colorado.

“f the reports were of the Mavs I wouldn’t be surprised because they are a great team built to win now and with Melo are a championship team.”

The Rockets actually had a winning record last year, add Carmelo to that team and they could have the same aspirations as Dallas.

I think the Knicks need to involve a third team and not take the chance that Carmelo is going to continue to refuse to sign that extension. There is no guarantee that the CBA will be agreed upon before free agency and if it isn’t he has to sign it because he could stand to lose a lot of money. That’s Denver’s only real leverage, but it arguably increases the closer to the offseason it comes if the CBA isn’t in place and a lockout looks unavoidable.

  • flossy

Well sure, but why would LAC do that unless Carmelo said “hell yeah I’ll resign to play with Baron Davis, Blake Griffin, and… uh…”

I just don’t see it happening. Not even the Clips are dumb enough to give up Gordon and Kaman unless Melo makes that promise.

  • peeg

I agree with you brookdon, with the Knicks having a much better upside.

  • flossy

No way the Rockets don’t have to give up either Brooks, or Martin, or Scola to land Melo. Jarred Jeffries and a bunch of picks is not goign to get it done. Likewise, no way the Nets get him without giving up Harris and Favors.

  • BiggieSmalls

All those still in favor of waiting around for a year and then jumping into the fray please stand up.

As I said countless times.. the picture changes often.. strike while the iron is hot.

  • HaS

They’ve got more draft picks than us (their own plus ours), Chase, Hill, Courtney Lee, their lottery pick this year in Patterson, Battier or Jeffries’ expiring and that’s before they even have to think about giving up Martin, Scola or Brooks.

Look at it from Denver’s perspective. IF Carmelo is open to Houston they could be a real threat. While everyone is obsessed with Khan and Rubio, Morey has been killing us.

  • HaS

“They’ve got more draft picks than us (their own plus ours), Chase, Hill, Courtney Lee, their lottery pick this year in Patterson, Battier or Jeffries’ expiring and that’s before they even have to think about giving up Martin, Scola or Brooks”

    From above.

  • Jon

How is it you have a knicks lineup where they give up gallo and clips where they give up gordon and kaman but the nets and rockets dont have to give up anything? Rockets would be getting rid of two of either brooks(less likely cus nugs deep at pg) martin and scola and the nets would have to depart with AT LEAST one of their pieces most likely favors in a package

  • brookdon

So the Nuggets would be fine with making their conference stronger as they attempt to rebuild.

He didn’t choose to be in Denver, if you wer forced to move farther away from your hometown “naturally as an east coast guy you would want to move closer

HaS I’m sure your from NY and even if you move away you’re still from the city why would you want to move to Texas.

If you could choose to a team with a “winning record” and a contender with Vets like Nowitzki and Kids 9/10 times you would take the Mavs.

Please don’t compare Scola to Amare

I’m sorry I went in chronological order and didn’t quote which lines I was answering.

  • brookdon

Nets could give up Murphy Terrence Williams and lots of picks.

Everyone above me is convinced Lee Jeffries Patterson and Hill along with picks will net Melo so I’m just following along.

    Curry and Gallo from Knicks

Clippers gave up Kaman and Gordon with picks.

  • HaS

“So the Nuggets would be fine with making their conference stronger as they attempt to rebuild.”

If they’re smart they will take the deal that benefits them most and not worry about what conference they’d be dealing with. They’re going to get worse in the short term by losing Carmelo anyway, might as well load up on draft picks and young talent and hope Yao gets injured or it doesn’t work.

“He didn’t choose to be in Denver”

He signed an extension with Denver once already. Rookie contracts are not 7 years long.

“HaS I’m sure your from NY and even if you move away you’re still from the city why would you want to move to Texas.”

I’d rather be in Houston than Texas, those 2 cities are like night and day.

“Please don’t compare Scola to Amare”

I was comparing how they fit together more than their play, but Scola isn’t chopped liver man.

  • RocNY

Everything you hear from family and friends is that Melo wants to be in new york and will do what he has to do to make that happen. Can that change? Ofcourse but it looks like Melo wants to be a Knick. I wouldnt bank too much on what the media is saying because as we know sometimes a lot of these “sources” have an agenda.

  • dino2008

Carmelo Anthony imo does not want to be a rocket. This is all nonsense. Yao Ming has essentially a couple of years at the MOST even if he can get through this year. That team without yao wont win anything. The Clippers are intriguing though imo though if you take away say gordon and kaman

your essentially left with a “rookie” coming over severe surgery and an injury prone pg, who imo is overrated. im not so sure carmelo would want to be a clipper either.

    Melo will be a Knick.

  • dino2008

    stay patient my friend. lol

  • dino2008

way to many grammatical errors…. sorry I was rushing.

  • dino2008

it isnt necessarily who can offer the best package, its about whether carmelo anthony is going to sign an extension with a rockets team whose best player may not even make it through the whole season, let alone most likely will not be there for melo’s 3 year extension, imo you are wrong.

without yao ming, the rockets are not winning anything.

can kevin martin stay on the floor? i like brooks but that team is not that good imo talent wise.

  • brookdon

Preferably the team they would trade him to would be in the eastern conference, prevents him possibly coming back to bite them.

Most rooks sign extensions. If not Wade LBJ and Bosh would have formed a superteam years ago.

I have never heard a new yorker say they wouldn’t mind living texas but ok.

If you were melo would you rather play with a friend in your hometown such as amare or Luis Scola?

  • johneco

Dood, we’re in the dead period.
There’s nothing else to talk about.
This is better than nothing for us junkies…

  • traps9

If Melo goes to Houston via “our” assets, I think the McGrady trade (a trade I supported) can officially be called the worse trade in Knicks history.

  • KnickFan4Life

I’m not downplaying them. Just don’t think it’s realistic they can pull off a trade without having to give up anything from their current core i.e. brooks, scola, and Martin. Plus Chase, Hill, and Courtney Lee is not beyond reproach it can be easily beaten.

  • KnickFan4Life

I meant to add if we go by that logic, the Nets can put up a comparable and likely superior offer factoring in their draft picks…

  • knickfamlay

Wow….Are we really going to put ourselves through this speculation again….its like a person in a abusive relationship, continuing to come back for the abuse. Can anyone tell me if Gallo has added a postup to his repotoire,How is Buize knee coming along,Has Chandler been working on his 3pt shot….I would love Melo, but if he goes somewhere else which is a REAL possibilty(just like it is REAL he can end up in NY)then what….we talk about 2012…etc…We have now!If we can TD to get info on players currently on the roster…..that could generate good dialogue also….instead of the TMZ of Knick basketball.

  • From The Blue Seats

this guy has has compared scola to amar’e, saying scola is a better fit for his game, lol what a bafoon. This is taking NYK pessimism to a new level

  • KnickFan4Life

plus they would be trading him out of the western conference…

  • brookdon

Depends on if randolph reaches his potential (IMO a better handling Kevin Garnett.) if he does I would be fine with it. If not it would be easily the worst trade.

  • brookdon

As a starter in GS Randolph averraged 15 pts 11 RBs and 2 BKs per game. If he can improve his midrange game, this guy can be a star.

  • brookdon

I wouldn’t say HaS is stupid, he is a smart guy but I agree sometimes he can be overtly pessimistic.

  • traps9

They are barely related. Yes, it allowed us the cap to get Amar’e AND Randolph, but obviously the market for Lee was there. We could’ve had Randolph either way.

  • traps9

Amar’e doesn’t benefit Melo’s game near as much as he does a PG. It’s not a “bigger name” game; it’s not that simple. Melo is certainly a ball dominator (as a star generally is).

  • traps9

Because that’s what got us LeBron. Oh, wait…….. lol no shots

  • FourWedges

Denver has no leverage! it does not matter what they want in a trade!
The only thing that matters is where Carmelo will accept to go to. and that could be 4 teams, 2 teams, or 1 team

The article contradicts itself horribly ..
Re: LA .. ‘gets he and his wife, La La, out to where entertainment opportunities are plentiful, which is key factor in their decision to want to move on’

… then why mention Houston in the same article!
    Houston, really??
The author flip-flops depending on what point he is trying to make.

  • brookdon

With that logic, you can say Joakim Noah is a better fit next to LBJ than Bosh. Whether we like it or not “names win championchips”. Would the Lakers have won the Championship with Scola rather than Pau?

  • KnickFan4Life

They are related though. The McGrady trade freed up the cap money that allowed Knicks to re-sign Lee and therefore do the GS trade…

  • flossy

Amar’e/Melo pick and roll would be unguardable. Better than Amar’e/Lebron even because Melo’s jumper is way better. And definitely better than Scola/Melo.

  • KnickFan4Life

Without trade Knicks still have Jeffries here and would not have the wiggle room that allowed them to pull of GS trade…

  • HaS

I said he could be a better fit with Carmelo, that’s all. I didn’t say he was better than Amare. Scorers and dirty work players go together like peanut butter and jelly.

    SMH.

    I’m a “bafoon” (not a word)?

So, you obviously can’t read lol OR spell.

    Buffoon.

    LOL

  • mistachill

I’m at the point where I no longer care and I’m not following this new soap opera anymore. If Melo comes, fine. If not, I’m fine with running with the current squad and finding out what we have. Lets figure out what we need after seeing if Gallo, AR, Felton etc. made significant strides in their game.

  • brookdon

I don’t know if this already has been posted but the all Eastern Conference NBA team by Bleacher Report (For players at bargain price) Gallinari was named a starter and Wikson Chadler a reserve.
    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/435842-all-value-nba-eastern-conference-team

  • JeffM729

Remember the JR Smith is on the market news yesterday. I’m guessing that if you want Melo, you need to take JR Smith with him. That’s Denver’s price for trading Melo.

    Houston could send Denver the following;

    Martin- Scorer to replace Melo
Lee, Chase, Hill, Patterson- Young Talent
    Jeffries/Battier- Expiring Contracts
    Knicks picks 2011, 2012

Clearly some combination of the assets above would allow Denver to compete now and rebuild as well. In Martin, they get a focal point for their offense. Hill and/or Patterson would replace K-Mart. Chase B would play SF with Harrington to replace Melo and the draft picks would be possible lottery picks.

That’s why the Nuggets would trade Melo in the West. I can’t see a team with more young talent and draft picks out there. Plus Houston can send a proven scorer as well.

    PG- Billups-Lawson
    SG- Martin-Affalo
    SF- Chase-Chucketts
    PF- KMart- Hill or Patterson
    C- Nene-Birdman

That’s not a bad team with good upside and draft picks.

  • Hustle

“I’d rather be in Houston than Texas, those 2 cities are like night and day.”

    Wait, what?

  • HaS

    “Amar’e/Melo pick and roll”

Carmelo isn’t even an average passer, but he’s running the pick and roll?

And he’s going to run it better than LBJ?

    Wow.

  • Chris Alvino

I think that the issue for any team is whether Melo will sign an extension if traded for. If Melo is open to places outside of NY, then other teams can offer better packages. If not, other teams will not mortgage their future for a one year rental.

  • Jeff C

It’s gotten to the point where writers can say they’ve heard anything they want to hear, or anything that makes an interesting story. It’s really pathetic. The sports media has eaten itself and crapped it out. At this point, people sighting random sources with NO regard for the fact that these sources might have an agenda, completely strips them of their journalistic credibility. Tommy is now just as much of a writer as any of these fools, which means tommy should just start writing his own articles claiming that his sources are telling him etc…

I’m not saying Houston is farfetched… it actually makes sense. But these articles are absurd.

  • Jeff C

It’s sad that this has turned into the nuggets blog, and nothings going to happen between us in the nuggets at all.

i still think melo will be a free agent.

  • JeffM729

Wojo over at Yahoo has been pretty accurate in rumor mongering. I would give him more credibility than most reporters.

With all the rumors out there, it does seem clear that Melo is going somewhere. I think we combine living in NYC with playing with the Knicks, as anyone can live in the city. Steve Nash lives in the village. Melo can play in one place and live in another.

  • Dylan

Am I the only one who is really sick of hearing all this Melo talk? The Nuggets don’t even have a freakin GM! Melo isn’t go anywhere any time soon. If they do eventually decide to trade him, why wouldn’t they at least wait until the trade deadline. That gives them a couple months to convince him to stay, plus the salaries wouldn’t need to match up. Its not like he is going to lose value. Denver is in no rush to trade him. We just went through this with LeBron, and the CP3. After this falls through, are we going to start a two year D-Will countdown? This is just getting ridiculous. Enough with the Melo updates. This constant speculation is ridiculous! I heard he ate a french fry the other day!!!! Does that mean he wants to play in Europe?!

  • SilentJay

Yeah, that kinda threw me off too.
    I think they’re going with traps9 premise that Melo’s a ball hog.
A scorer like him demands the ball, too. But you can’t really be an old school ball hog when you play with top notch floor general like Billups.

  • flossy

Not even an average passer, seriously? 3.5 apg is decent at the SF position. Better than Durant, that’s for sure. And Melo has never had anyone of Amare’s caliber to pass to and Karl has him mostly running ISOs.

Moreover, if Chris f’ing Duhon and David Lee could be one of the more efficient PnR combos in the league you can be damn sure D’Antoni could make Melo/Amar’e into something lethal. PnR is not rocket science and Melo and Stat have all the tools to make it pretty much impossible to guard. So yeah I stand by my comment, sorry to rain on your haterade parade.

  • bluemax

Was wondering when new rumor was going to come up. Tomorrow the Nets. day after that WASH

And of course, we always can count on HaS to tell us how much more attractive the other franchises are. And what a poor job DW and MD are doing while the other GM are eating our lunch. Thank god we have somebody like him to keep us from stumbling into the path of bliss and optimism!

Remind me again. who are Chase,Hill,Lee,Patterson? are we talking about Jordan hill as a young talent?

  • SilentJay

Pretty much every team on Melo’s list can offer better packages than we can. Besides, looking at Houston, NJ, and the Clip’s books, they’re set up to have flexibility moving on. It’s gonna come down to who’s willing to make the better offer.
I also think that whoever’s working under the premise that Denver won’t trade him to the west, they’re mistaken. They want assets, doesn’t matter where they get them from.
In Melo’s personal case, he wants to win, and the balance of power’s shifting to the east: it’s gonna be extremely tough for any eastern team to get to the finals; the west in 2 years will be dominated by Portland and OKC.

  • Dylan

Aaron Brooks is pretty damn good. He is better than any player we have outside of Amare.

  • HaS

    Houston than Denver*

    Obviously.

    Lol

  • SilentJay

Yup. People get ahead of themselves real fast when they read that “a top player wants to be in NY” (seems like they all do) or their “wives are dying to live here”.
In the end the ball’s in Denver and Melo’s court.
To assume he’ll end up here is a mistake.

  • Dylan

    +1
Not saying he definitely won’t come here, but its WAY too soon to even have this discussion.

  • SilentJay

That’s gonna depend on how the CBA factors in once they’re done.
If they can get insured before there’s a paycut coming, they’ll get it done though, and that’s where the desperation will kick in.

  • CircleLimit4

This smells like more posturing, I’m just not sure from who.

Maybe this is the Melo camp trying to press Denver Nuggets to make a deal with an team in the East by intimating that he would go to a Western conference team if he made it to FA.

  • bluemax

is Aaron Brooks a nickname for Chase,Hill,Lee,Patterson?

  • flossy

Oh and also, if you want to know why LBJ’s ast numbers are so gaudy and Melo’s look who they are playing with. Chauncey Billups is a real PG, Mo Williams is not. LBJ had to be the primary ballhandler for the Cavs, Carmelo did not. I’m not saying Melo is as good a passer as LeBron but you don’t need a PhD to run a PnR especially when teams have to respect your moves to the basket and your midrange J (and same for the roll man if it’s Amar’e).

Seriously anyone who thinks that combo wouldn’t be deadly put the wrong kind of mushrooms in their omlette this morning.

  • flossy

Hey man, Lee was traded for Ariza, and Hill was part of a deal for a washed-up McGrady, so put them together and you’ve got… Oops, garbage. Try again Houston.

  • bluemax

I just can’t figure this stuff out.

when DW picks J. Hill in the draft he is just the worse. but then, somehow once he is traded to HOU he becomes a prospect.

Jeffries could not play to save his life on the knicks but somehow now has a value. same goes for Nate.

I get it. we should trade away all knicks players so they get better and then we could re acquire them so we could get a better team! isn’t that a good idea?

  • bluemax

Idk, I really can’t see Houston as a destination…if they talking Houston and LAC why not his hometown Wiz??? Wall is already better than Brooks, and aging Baron Davis…

they got guys like Howard, Thorton, Blatche, Yi, Nick Young, Yi, and even Arenas to throw at Denver..

that’s better than anything the clippers and Houston can throw at them imo…

  • brookdon

Lots on this site love to be pessimistic to protect themselves from disappointment. If Galo were on another team he would have been hailed as a great prospect.

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

reel talk tho, I’d rather just hear Melo say I will be playing this season in Denver, and we’ll see what happens next summer…

so we don’t have to dwell on this for the next couple months or possibly the whole season…

LB was enough, that was 2yrs of our life wasted, why go thru again…he gets traded here, he signs here next summer, GREAT!!! if he doesn’t we must move on…

    enough already.

Def not getting my hopes up ANYMORE…

  • HaS

I think everyone is overlooking the fact that I said IF Carmelo would sign an extension and IF he actually said he likes Houston. Those are 2 pretty huge IFs, I’m not the biggest Anthony fan but I think I’ve been pretty clear that the Knicks should do everything in their power to get him. If they can.

As far as the “coach” I’m not asking you to change your feelings on him so don’t ask me to change mine.

Morey did eat Walsh’s lunch in that deal and took the shirt off his back too.

Bliss and optimism? Ok. That’s your right man, I’m not stopping you from dreaming just ignore my posts.

When Hill was drafted he was the next Amar’e lol he’s still young I do nt think he’s a finished product by any means. Chase was steal where he was drafted and people would argue that Patterson has a lot of potential as a lottey pick. Its not up to you or I to judge their talent only Denver knows what they want. They’ve gone onrecord to say that they aren’t interested in our players, but all I’ve said is that not having any draft picks to use in a trade could hurt us. Period.

  • JeffM729

Jordan Hill really never got a chance with the Knicks. He was on the floor for 252 minutes. In Houston, he shot 53% from the field and got 5 boards in 16 minutes. Maybe his game just didn’t fit with the Knicks. He clearly looked better in Houston.

In Boston, N8 had a smaller, more defined role with a tight leash. Boston went to the Finals and resigned N8, so that says something.

Jeffries is just an expiring contract and he’s headed for the veteran’s minimum next year, if he stays in the league.

We did get a nice package for N8, but hosed on Tracey.

  • BiggieSmalls

and what about WITH YAo Ming?

if he is healthy they have a top 5 team.. add Melo and a healthy Yao (and K Mart?) and you’ve got something.

  • JeffM729

Thanks for clearing this up for me….

I thought that the Nyets plugged a major hole by getting Troy Murphy at PF after being striking out in free agency and opened up minutes for T-Will and Morrow.

Then after the McGrady trade, our coach said he was the best player on the team and we had cap space for two max free agents.

  • HaS

Carmelo’s assist to turnover ratio is like 1/1 lmao. If you think he’s running the pick and roll I think you are the one enjoying psychedelic mushrooms. He’s not even that strong of a ball handler, Felton will be the one with the ball in his hands for better or worse.

“With that logic, you can say Joakim Noah is a better fit next to LBJ than Bosh. Whether we like it or not “names win championchips”. Would the Lakers have won the Championship with Scola rather than Pau?”

    With a healthy Bynum? Maybe.

However, Pau is a bad example because he is head and shoulders better than Amar’e. He gives you the scoring along with much better rebounding, defense and passing and he’s probably a higher IQ basketball player.

  • Bloop33

Someone please tell me why Houston would be a desired landing spot for Melo?

These reports are comical at best.

    Clippers!!!! LMAO

I’m not one of the people who think he’s already gift wrapped on our doorstep, but some of these reports are ridiculous to say the least.

  • Bloop33

HaS you kill me with your devils advocate dog and pony show man.

It appears you’re more worried about not coming across like a homer than making actual sense sometimes.

You’re such a Bulls fan lol.

  • Bloop33

I find it hard to believe Melo would fall prey to the Nuggets trying to get the best deal for him after watching the other marquee free agents decide their own destinies…call it a hunch, I just don’t see it.

Houston’s future is still cloudy IMO and the Clippers well are the clippers. Either way none of those teams will be equipped to “beat LA” and he still has options.

Cmon did we really think it was gonna be all NY love affair all the way to 33rd for Melo? Keep hope alive, we have no choice anyway, we’re Knick fans.

  • Bloop33

LOL @ blue…You’re my boy blue!!!

“And of course, we always can count on HaS to tell us how much more attractive the other franchises are. And what a poor job DW and MD are doing while the other GM are eating our lunch. Thank god we have somebody like him to keep us from stumbling into the path of bliss and optimism!”

“Like the sands of time, these are the days of our lives”

  • CircleLimit4

So you’re saying Melo should bank on Yao being healthy?

  • From The Blue Seats

congratulations you can spell bafoon correctly, im gonna stick with my original assertion that you are indeed a “bafoon” if you think putting mello in a front line that would consist of mello, Gallo and Stoudamire (yes you might suffer in the half court on d with amar’e at the 5, but i believe he can hold his own with the 5′s in the east, minus dwight) wont let him play to his max potential. Those three in D’antoni’s system would be a monster and it think would finish no lower then 4th in east good enough for home court advantage. If we can do this deal short of anything but trading amar’e and gallo, we do it and knicks heat rivalry will be back on, while haS watches Scola highlight videos

  • thebossandbenji76

Rockets would have best starting 5 of those teams, especially if Yao is healthy.

  • flossy

I did not say he’d be the primary ball handler, I say he and Amar’e would run PnR with some frequency. PnR is a more or less controlled situation, he wouldn’t be asked to run a whole offense, just a whole play. Obviously Felton would have the ball in his hands most of the time.

You can disagree with me but I 100000% promise you that if Carmelo ends up with us and Pringles is still coaching, you’ll see that PnR combo a lot. And for good reason.

  • thebossandbenji76

As far as a trade for Melo, i would favor the Rockets with the ability to offer 2 expiring contracts in Jefferies and Battier along with 2 #1 picks along with one of them being ours that we gave them, also they would offer Jordan Hill as well. If Melo does go free agency the team that scares me and is a darkhorse for me because it’s home for him and he grew up there is his hometown wizards with John Wall, Gilbert Arenas, Melo at the 3, a 20-10 PF in Andre Blatche and a Dikembe Mutumbo like 5 in Javal McGee, which is better then the Knicks. So if ur telling me it’s a choice of Tony Parker in FA next summer and a Steve Nash trade come February in exchange for Chandler or Azk’s expiring, Douglas and Curry’s contract. I choose to trade for Nash. If I knew I could get Yao ming in FA and he was healthy that would be a whole different situation.

  • flossy

Also, Pau is head and shoulders better than Amar’e? Do you just hate the Knicks or something?

Amar’e has higher career per game and per 36 minute numbers scoring (by a lot), rebounding (yes, rebounding!) and steals, higher PER, higher TS%… I’ll just stop there.

Pau is a much better passer and better at blocking shots by a small margin. I’ll go ahead and concede that he gives more consistent effort on D. I’ll be generous and say overall Pau an Amar’e are about equal in the NBA’s elite PF stratosphere. Head and shoulders above Amar’e???? What a joke.

  • gianthinker

I don’t understand how Melo could possibly be looking forward to playing with Yao Ming when Yao has said he may retire after this next season and everyone knows Yao’s poor foot condition. Like a typical big man Yao will keep having foot or ankle or shin problems for the rest of his career. So is Melo looking forward to going to Houston, not on the East coast, to play with Yao for one year? I dont see it. I think thats all media driven because they match up better for trades.

  • HaS

    Pubes33

    LOL

Still hanging on for dear life.

  • HaS

    Hate the Bulls actually.

You like Balls I see though. 8)

  • HaS

Gallo at the 4 and Stoudemire at the 5 (where he says he doesn’t want to play) is going to be top 4 in the East? Maybe in offense, but not in the standings.

  • BigTyme

@Chris Alvino Well, its a good thing ur not the Nuggets new GM then…

  • BigTyme

@HaS I think ur right that we r not the only ones who learned a valuable lesson here with that fiasco

  • BigTyme

I have 2 agree with HaS again, Dammmn but Morey has been a frickin Silent Assassin!!!

  • bluemax

Personally I’m not that sold on Melo anyway. He is way too ball dominant and won’t fit well with Amare unless we have a very strong PG to run the show. And I doubt Felton can do that job.

But if we could get Melo as a FA and then get either CP3 or DWill in a trade later on then we are in business and could challenge for a Chip for years to come.

This why trading for Melo now does not look like a great move because it would kill any further chance to get a CP3 or Dwill going forward. it would just be Amare, melo, felton and possibly JR. not a bad team but not really a Chip team.

  • BigTyme

@Dino 2008 Good point, last I heard, he still wasn’t 100%, even heard retirement whispers

  • bluemax

Everybody seems to assume that the outcome of the CBA will somehow be negative for players like Melo. what if it isn’t? what if it is pretty much unchanged? which is often the case in those situations.

Then Melo would just be free to sign a 5 or 6 yrs deal as FA come July 1rst. Couldn’t that be simply his best strategy, get the most money, go where you want to go and forget about a trade?

I personally think that may very well be what he is up to. Forget all the media chatter. it’s a waste of time. see you in a year.

  • BigTyme

    Maybe he meant Baboon…typo

  • HaS

Pau is a better player than Stoudemire.

Thanks for coming, god bless and good night.

  • blackwood

lmao can very well end up being the worse or tied for it.

  • blackwood

When Magoo drafted Hill in a PG draft when the Knicks are in need of a PG yea it is the worst for the Knicks.

JJ is money off the books simple as that. Not to complicated.

  • TobyKnight

    +1

Have to wait to see how AR develops or who he can be packaged for to really judge.

  • TobyKnight

    +1

Not convinced Melo is the answer if we have to gut the team to get him.

  • flossy

Uh, okay. Thanks for the lesson teach.

  • dino2008

big, yao is on his last legs or should i say foot. yao has even admitted he doesnt know if he will be able to play this year. even if healthy it seems unlikely that he will be the yao of old imo.

do you honestly think carmelo should bank on a healthy yao and kevin martin?

  • Mucha

    I think Pau’s a better all-around player than Amar’e but the difference isn’t significant… Amar’e actually dominated Pau in the Conference Finals…

I think our perception would be different without the championship rings… I give Pau a slight edge though.

  • Mucha

The Knicks will always be in the conversation with Melo, a healthy Amar’e and a potential All-Star in Gallinari or Randolph.

  • HaS

They all can’t play at the same time though. I think that is the dilemma, maybe in a year or two if Randolph proves he can play the 5 (and marshMelo and Amar’e turn into the defenders that they can be) that could be a great front court.

Imho Gallinari would just be in the way causing a logjam. Maybe in 4 years when Amar’e is on the decline he can come off the bench behind Gallo (if he reaches his full potential)?

Either that or someone would have to be moved down the line to balance the team I guess.

  • thebossandbenji76

The hairline fracture in Yao Ming’s surgically repaired foot has fully healed, according to the Rockets’ team doctor.

Yao worked out in front of media on Tuesday, and reportedly looked good during one-on-one drills. He said his chances of playing on opening night are “pretty good [but] conditioning-wise … I’m really not in good shape right now … the good news is we still have one month to the training camp and 2 months until the season.”
    Source: Rockets.com

If he is healthy and has a good year, he’s my #1 choice in FA, u can’t turn down a guy like yao at 7’6 at C.

  • Citiboi12

    Thats a mighty big IF

  • blackwood

Last vision of Yao I have was of N8 blocking the crap out of him lol.

  • sean15

Carmelo told isaih thomas he will sign with the knicks next year

  • Bloop33

Hey at least u thought it was funny _aS lol.
