Azubuike Thinks He’ll Be Ready, Knicks Not so Sure

by Tommy Dee on August 27th, 2010 at 7:43 am

Several people with knowledge of the situation informed TKB a few weeks ago that Kelenna Azubuike was excited and on schedule to be ready at some point during training camp.

The Knicks, however, aren’t so sure.

“We’re not sure,” said the team president Donnie Walsh, who described a torn patellar tendon as “one of the worst injuries in the league.”

Azubuike spent most of the summer rehabilitating with a private trainer. He just began working with the Knicks’ staff this week, so team officials do not yet have a firm assessment. Azubuike is not yet running or jumping, which suggests that he is a long way from playing high-level basketball.

“I think it’s 50-50 whether he’ll be ready for training camp right now,” D’Antoni said. “He thinks he will be.”

I just hope that Azubuike doesn’t rush his recovery and re-injure himself.

Amen. He is only 26 years old which is a plus. Hopefully, in time, he will fully recover. Unfortunately he is in the final year of his contract.

    Horrible news.

    There goes our starting 2.

Finally some reports on Buike instead of all this hearsay I’ve been seeing. Thanks Tommy!!!

That’s what they signed Mason for insurance. While I think a healthy Buke is quite better than Mason I still think Knicks will get by fine with Mason/Chandler there until Buke is 100%…

Chandler needs to prove he can play there. Unless he’s made some improvements I say he can’t.

KF4Life is right … chandler/mason will do fine in the role for now … Wil said he was working on his ball handling allsummer … and we know he is a worker … plus TD and even Fields can play 2 at times based on match-ups … we’ll be ok .. no need to panic & “overpay” for another euro “all-star” !

I was pleased to see that during interview with Wilson during “Knicks Night Live”, the first thing he mentioned was his work on his ball handling.

    Now I wanna see it.
