@TommyDeeTKB: Another source says: "don't expect a melo trade anytime soon. This may go all season."

Again, I maintain based on strong information from two league sources that Melo will not sign an extension with any other team than the Knicks…He’s confident that he’ll get paid CBA or not.

  • MrMajik2

    I hope you’re right, Tommy.

  • jaknicksfan

This is good news, i would rather just sign carmelo than have to give up gallo for him, we could keep the young guys and add to them, thanks for the update Tommy!

  • http://knicksvision.com RandaNYK

This is very good news. The fact that Melo is not signing and feels strongly that he’s not is great.

  • clydetheglyde

Wait Wait Wait hahaha let him become a free agent. Melo is no fool he knows that if he waits on year will be on a championship contender in New York. Whatever money he loses from the CBA he will more than gain from endorsements in New York. With the downfall of Lebron, Carmelo would be the biggest name in basketball. Then you trade for chris paul or d- will, with assets like Danillo, and AR, if the need arises.
I smell dynasty, haha Im just kidding Lets Go Knicks.

  • Jayo

F**k all this passive aggressive “let’s wait” BS .. I want Melo before the season starts, and if all it takes is Gallo, some trash(Curry) & a draft pick, then get him .. I’ll admit I want to see AR play so if he is a must in any deal then I’d re-asses the situation (doesn’t mean I wouldn’t do it).. Who knows what will happen between tomorrow & 10 months from now, maybe Gallos back goes bad, maybe ARs ankle gets re-injured, idk .. Melo is a sure thing and that is hard to come by..

Felton,Melo,STAT, & role players can get to the conference championship game, so I don’t understand this let’s wait stuff.. Gallo & Melo can’t play on the same team IMO so unless your using him as a trade chip enough with the keep Gallo posts.

Ps. I am a Gallo fan but Melo is Melo (duh!) lol

  • Jayo

Oyea Re: Chris Paul; doesn’t NO trading Collison mean CP3 is off the block ? So stop all CP3 trade talk asap(that goes for everyone on this site)

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

my sources are tellin my different.
they said denver will have no choice but to trade him after he starts playing awful

  • Citiboi12

Hmm so what if he pulls a vince carter and bull##its around?

  • TobyKnight

While I’d love to have him on the team this year, a part of me is excited to see what the kids can do. Gallo and AR could have breakout seasons and then each of their trade values would sky rocket.

If we could sign Melo straight up in 2011 and then package Felton and an improved Gallo to NO for Paul we would be in a superb position.

    CP3
    Buke
    Melo
    Amare
    A beefed up Randolph

That’s a team that could handle Miami

  • TobyKnight

    From a Warrior’s fan
    http://www.warriorsworld.net/trades-carmelo-anthony-doesn’t-matter/

So what does this have to do with Carmelo Anthony? Well, we obsess over him for many of the same reasons we focus on Bryant. When Melo’s draining shots in the playoffs, the casual fan gets swept up in the drama (How many shots in a row can he hit? Will he score the game winner?). The other facets of the game fade into periphery, blur as we look for the next Anthony bucket. And those memories of off-balance jumpers linger longer than anything from a Denver playoff exit.

Nene and the Birdman, those guys hoop in a parallel universe that the fan is barely aware of. Their toil is meaningful in real basketball terms, but it is largely ignored by the culture that was molded to fetishize MJ. As NBA fans, we see ourselves in the perimeter scorer, not the rebounding big.

Anthony’s Wins Produced number is a paltry 5.93, his plus-minus is a shrug-worthy 3.5. Advanced stats aside, this makes sense to me. Simplistically put, Carmelo doesn’t do much, other than score. When he’s not shooting, another guy is taking, and sometimes converting with greater efficiency. Melo’s greatest skill is the ability to take many, many, shots without causing George Karl yank to him.

So no, I don’t want to trade a Stephen Curry package for Carmelo Anthony. Melo would make an impact wispy as his stache, for piles of cash stashed higher than stars. The only reason I wrote this was to show how CarmeLove stems from the disease that plagued the Warriors into death-bed hacking. Average efficiency scoring at the expense of defense? Lavishing PR attention on ballhogs? Any of this sound familiar? The Warriors shouldn’t acquire Anthony, they should acquire a taste for winning basketball–and that means looking for players, not avatars.

  • PickNY

Sounds like Melo is piss and a great move telling Denver Mgt that he’s going to stick the screws to them, by letting other teams know his INTENTIONS! Smart man acknowledging that he’s going to get His no matter what!

Sounds like he’s the man with the leverage! So all you knuckleheads want to continue with your crazy a** trade scenarios, go for it! The man heart don’t pump no look-aid!

  • PickNY

My bad with the misspelling, I meant Kook-aid with a capital K! Excuse me while I’m sipping on me some Remy Martin getting my YAC on!

  • PickNY

Oops I mess up again, it’s freaking KOOL-AID! I guess I got it right this time! I’m done, time to go chill on this news:) HAHAHA!

  • SilentJay

    I can’t wait for camp to start…

  • DVJ

Obviously whoever wrote that has no idea what he’s talking about.

Stephon Curry will never be a top 6 player in the league as Melo is right now.

He’s only led his team to the playoffs each year he’s been in the league. Something that Lebron and Stephon Curry have not done.

The year before Melo was drafted the Nuggets didn’t even win 20 games. The year Melo was drafted they went to the playoffs and they won more than 50% of their games.

Not only is the Warriors management a disgrace, their fans are starting to go buck nutty!!

    In Donnie We Trust

    All Praise Donnie

    Amen

  • Dylan

I don’t think this can be seen as anything but good news, if its true. Lets see what we have before making any trades. Best case scenario Melo becomes a free agent, and we are able to sign him while still holding onto our players. Even if the Nuggets decide to trade him before the trade deadline, there is a good chance that Gallo or Randolph will increase their trade value before then, so we won’t have to give up quite as much. I’m excited to see this team. We have four legit forwards in Amare, Gallo, Randolph and Chandler, a true NBA PG for the first time in awhile, and multiple players that can actually defend the paint and block shots.

  • bob go knicks

me either.I love roasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire, and sleeping under the stars….but what does camp have to do withe knicks?

  • SilentJay

    lol
Training camp. In the sense that by then we’ll have more news on the present roster.

  • hardcoreknickfan..

Think these leaks will come out in the papers today or what? Best news ive heard all week but scared that by tomorrow we all here he might be heading to nets or houston again. Tommy how are your sources dude? Im desperate as a diehard knick fan to here about melo wanting to come to new york.

  • bluemax

I can see this one coming. Both side staring each other down and nobody even blinking.

This is backlash for this summer’s folly with LBJ & Conpany. Just the case of an owner who is determined not to be fleeced and teach those players a lesson or two. Just a preview rehearsal for the CBA negotiations.

  • omegared536

if we get him its by the nets. the nets are going to be the team we need to holla at cuz thats who den is most interested in. now the offering favors harris and couple picks. so lol they will just have melo and lopez so we might as well give the nets a call and make some moves with them!

  • TEHRON

This is hillarious! You guys keep beleiving this “source” nonsense and when he is actually traded, to somewhere other than ny, then maybe you guys will learn your lesson about this whole source nonsense.UNLESS a lot of you like to read national enquirer or some other rumor mag.

Tell you what tommy and this is real talk. IF you can get me something from TMZ.com that sez carmelo is coming here, then THAT is a reputable source. I believe them over any of these other UNNAMED sources….
Which is a shame, but hey tmz at least have hired watchdogs and no speculation.

  • DatbklynKnickfandude

@TEHRON, What YOU’RE not understanding is NO ONE is saying Melo CAN’T be traded, but he’s not signing an extension with NO ONE but the Knicks.

Now if you’re a GM of a NBA team (say the Nets, or Golden State) what would you give up KNOWING you have Melo for ONLY one year. If you’re prudent the answer is: NOT MUCH, and so Denver doesn’t get the value they expect for Melo because he won’t sign the extension. Which is why, as Tommy reports, the likelihood of a trade going down is nil.

Unless you’re Denver and you circulate rumors of trade interests from other teams in order to make the Knicks up the ante on what they’re offering.

  • JeffM729

Melo’s value to the Nuggets is far above some geek statistical analysis. To assume that he will add a paltry 5.93 wins aside, he is the face of the franchise. He is the man that sells the tickets. He is the player that people pat to watch.

We could debate whether his contributions are over valued, but even 6 wins is 6 wins and 6 less losses. If the Knicks get Melo, prior to the season starting, the team is better. How much better isn’t going to bother me at all.

  • BiggieSmalls

u got it right the second time.

  • JeffM729

What we need is a KnickiLeaks website to compete with WikilLeaks.

  • BiggieSmalls

check the salaries.. CP3 is on the books for 16.4 in 2011/12

    gallo/felton doesnt work.

  • BiggieSmalls

plus 35 million (the amount of money Melo will lose by waiting a year to sign)

  • JeffM729

None of us have any real knowledge of the situation,, but Melo did provide Denver with a short list of teams for trade purposes. Given that Denver can trade him to any team, there was a reason in making a list. The most logical assumption is that he would sign his extension and then be traded.

Denver, realizing that the need to minimize the loss of their best player, will pursue teams that Melo has requested. The only reports that Melo will only play for the Knicks comes from New York, not anywhere else. If this were true that we were his only option, one would expect to have seen it reported in other cities. Everywhere else is reporting that there are multiple destinations.

  • BiggieSmalls

    thats great news Tommy..

Ill believe it when he signs.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Denver would look sad if they expect the Knicks who somehow got the info that Melo wants to come to the Knicks up their ante and don’t get what they want. The Nuggets have all right to trade Melo but as I’ve said before why would a team trade for Melo give up vital peices to their team to lose him at the end of the season and leave said team with nothing to show for it. Denver is in trouble because not trading Melo is going to leave a dark cloud over the team as long as he doesn’t sign the extension and before every game at every practice and after every game the players and coaching staff have to answer questions on will Melo stay or go and why hasn’t he signed the extension. I say Melo just ride it out until the Nuggets crack.

  • jay from the fix

If gallo and AR has break out year why would you trade them? I would keep them along with melo and have a very stacked team. Gallo the 6th man of the year lol. He would come off the bench and play mins at sf/pf and as u said if AR beef up he plays the 5. But lets see how this year goes first.

  • vin

They have a new GM now so he has to do this right. However, the only thing he can do at this point is pick the less bad option.

If Melo is on the team at the start of training camp, all focus and stories will involve him likely leaving. Every city he visits during the regular season, same thing. A constant cloud over the club.

If you move him now, you get crap. No Lopez, so who do the Nets give? Murphy and Favors + picks? That means Denver’s season is over and the Nets make the playoffs with Harris, Lopez, Melo.

The Clips? They maybe could give the best package, but he’s not resigning in Kobe’s shadow, so why would they?

The market is bad, the whole Association knows they have to deal, so what can they get? Keeping him is tough since a cloud will hang over their heads.

Anyway, none of this hurts the Knicks, and it may help.

  • NoVaCaInE

Remy does it all the time lol. Remy VSOP is my drink of choice…

My sources tell me I’m gonna have an omelet for breakfast.

  • MetsKnicksRutgers

I am a big fan of advanced metrics, and then whole geek stigma that is thrown out by MSM and uninformed fans is quite hilarious. That being said, I use them for baseball quite extensively, but it is much easier in baseball, with the exception of defense. In baseball for offensive numbers you have pitcher vs. Batter and that allows fir good field independent pitching statistics to show how good a pitcher really is rather than luck. Case in point as a mets fan was Elmer dessens pitching high leverage innings for e mets this year because he got out of a couple jams with liners that went right to fielders and turned into double plays, thus Jerry Manuel made him the 8th inning guy, which is a stid role anyway. With basketball, I am a fan, but it is much more difficult to quantify similar to football. There isn’t the one on one battle that you get in baseball, rather it is a team sport. Lots of movement going on, and I hate to say it but chemistry is important with a team. I don’t think the lakers would be as good with Dwight Howard as they are with gasol even though I believe Dwight to be a better player. Advanced metrics are definitely not kind to melo as they are to lebron, but melo does do some things that really change the game like attracting tons of attention. Who have been his sidekicks? Chauncey is very good, but other than hay it has been mediocre sidekicks. Kmart birdman, jr smith etc. These are not real scorers with the exception of smith who is incredibly inconsistent. With amare to pass to at the foul line I could see melo becoming much more efficient. Nevertheless, I still would rather have Paul or Williams.

  • cms9675

I hear a lot of you guys say stuff like “we know ny is the only team he will sign an extention with” or “we know he wants to be a knick”. We don’t know anything. Period. All we know is what we hear from articles and sports news. Last time I checked none of us are good friends with carmelo, so you guys need to cool it with the “we know” statements. Ya just sound stupid. Unless I hear some leaked tape or video of carmelo saying he’s definitely coming to ny then I’m not buying anything anyones sources are telling them. I like the team we have and that’s what I’m focused on right now.

  • BiggieSmalls

its like telling a kid there’s no Santa Claus on Christmas eve

Some one on the other thread tried to pass off Fat Joe as a valid source that Melo is coming to the Knicks.– Why not ask Jack Nicholson if he’s coming to the Lakers.

    height of insanity.

  • Boots

I have to agree with some of you gents that the willingness to complete a trade may come about as the season progresses and Denver tires of the constant distraction and focus on “the trade” rather than focus on the team.

After a while, player resentment wil grow when no matter how well Denver is playing, the after-game locker room is flooded with reporters asking more questions about the trade than about the just concluded game. Not exactly a team morale builder, IMHO.

That is when it will really matter who Melo is willing sign an extension with.

  • cms9675

    Fat Joe? Really? Wow!

  • BiggieSmalls

how about the effect on the knicks season ?

if this goes on all season does anyone NOT think that reporters will be peppering current knicks with questions about the future addition and what that means for players on the CURRENT roster?

another year of distractions at MSG..

  • NoVaCaInE

    + 1

  • bluemax

If this is true then why are they even arguing over anything? the initial report is that in fact both sides are in less than friendly rapport and are hare hardly communicating with one another.

So clearly all of those destinations are not to Melo’s liking and just on DEN’s wish list. Otherwise they would already be talking.

  • HaS

Andre Miller is very underrated. He helped guide an injury plagued Blazers team to the playoffs last year.

  • gianthinker

Ersan Ilyasova had one hell of a game for Turkey yesterday.

  • JeffM729

There’s lots of national sources talking about a list of teams.

    Here’s the Sporting News;

“Ujiri said he plans to meet with Anthony soon. The Nuggets have offered him a three-year, $65 million extension, but Anthony has given no indication he’ll sign it, and Anthony’s management team reportedly has gone to the Nuggets with a list of teams he’d like to be traded to.”

  • knicks-yankees axis18

I GUARANTEE you guys that adrian wojo of yahoo sports will come out with some story in the near future…”carmelo wants to go to washington wizards and they are willing to trade john wall”listen up man this guy is a clown seriously…either him or his sources…first he reported that amare was staying with the suns as soon as there was word that he was considering the knicks(before july1)then he said the knicks will be left out of all free agents, then he said knicks had no shot at lebron because we fumbled the meeting because walsh was ina wheelchair…then with carmelo says that the meeting between him and the owner went bad…however the owner of the nuggets has come out and sais that they have had civil dicussions with carmelo and his agents leon rose…listen please knicks fans his reputation has taken a serious hit this summer dont believe anything he reports…his sources suck!!!

  • HaS

    “Sounds like Melo is piss”

That’s the echo inside your skull.

  • HaS

“Stephon Curry will never be a top 6 player in the league as Melo is right now.”

He’s off to a good start by making Team USA. I think he has a chance to be at least top 10 if his point guard skills continue to develop.

  • knicks-yankees axis18

by the way this is about credibility has nothing to do with being a ny hater…if stephen smith came out tommorow and said that the knicks are out of it…then that would be more believeble only because its him…espn is also pretty good(sometimes) but man this guy adrian..man i hope he dosent pay these sources too much money

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Biggie sadly that’s collateral damage from the Lebronathon of the past 2 years, as long as their is a star that can put our team on the map and make the Knicks not only better but must watch tv that the espn and tnt networks would do anything to get them on, the Knicks will do it. Fans are excited about the possibilty of having one of the NBA’s best in their prime rather on the downside of their career. Now some fans may imagine reading or hearing Melo wants NY but that’s hopeful wishing. The bottom line is that nobody knows but what we do know is that as long as this goes on the worse it is for the Nuggets. I won’t say the Knicks so much because we’ve been through this already and in all honesty is their anyone on our roster that we would cry for if they were traded? I really don’t think so the goal is to compete for championships not hope players improve their game along the way. Amare I’m sure didn’t sign to play on a rebuilding team either or he wouldn’t say he wants other NBA stars not on the Knicks to come join him.

  • HaS

Toronto will challenge for the 8th seed this year.

  • clydetheglyde

hes not losing 35 million he will make some of that baxk.

  • cms9675

    Haha. Nice change of subject!

  • snadler

Basically what you are trying to say is that Carmelo doesn’t make players on his team better. However the nba is a league based on superstars and the knicks haven’t had one since Ewing. The knicks have lacked a go to guy down the stretch in years. Carmelo immediately is the go to guy, the player you want taking the shots when the game is on the line. Stats don’t tell you that. For the past 8 years in a close game this team self-destructs because of the lack of that star to take over a game and hit the big shot. Carmelo is the man for that. So as a warrior fan you should feel the same way since your team has been as bad or worse then us. So your loss will be our gain.

  • traps9

But if he took the extension and came to NY, he’d have it AND the endorsements…

  • snadler

You realize TMZ was running with Lebron signing with the knicks because of what Jared Dudley told them. I would use TMZ either..

  • Boots

Had to go to PT; hence, the late reply. Biggie, your are 100% right. Wrote my response on my way out the door and didn’t think it through.

I have to wonder what effect the uproar will have on Gallo, AR, and Wilson as far as their focus. They may be pros, but they are young enough that there has to be a distraction factor. Too bad, as this is a critical season developmentally for all three of them.

    Thanks for catching my goof.

  • clydetheglyde

right but he wont win as much , cutting down his endorsements.

  • TEHRON

Co-sign. But I understand now. You have sensible fans and you can have non-sensible fans. Even these guys with good theories are just spouting theories. None of us know a damn thing in the end. Funny thing is those types of fan replies don’t show up too often ;)
