Knicks Still in the Hunt for Rudy

Alan Hahn of Newsday writes that, “So several NBA insiders have suggested to me that Portland will exhaust all other options before they’d even consider doing Rudy a favor and sending him exactly where he wants to go, especially if the Knicks aren’t offering anything they really want. And what they want is a first round pick.”

The Blazers’ asking price has always been too high for the Bulls and the Knicks, higher than just a first round pick, which the Knicks don’t have to shop. Apparently, the Knicks turned down sending Anthony Randolph in the deal.

Via Daily News

According to a team source, Knicks president Donnie Walsh recently rejected a three-team deal that would have sent Anthony Randolph to Indiana, a first-round pick to Portland and Fernandez to New York.

Because the Trail Blazers are insisting on receiving a first-round pick in return for Fernandez, the Knicks likely need to recruit a third team in order to complete a deal. The Blazers apparently have little interest in Wilson Chandler. Fernandez, who is currently playing for Spain at the world championships in Turkey, was fined by the NBA for publicly asking for a trade.

Randolph for Fernandez would not have been a good trade.

  • Chris Alvino

I think Rudy Fernandez is being a little bit overvalued by the Blazers. Just a little bit.

While I want him here, I am not convinced that Rudy is a must-have type of player.

  • traps9

“Randolph for Fernandez would not have been a good trade.”

    Thanks, TD. lol

  • traps9

Not for Randolph he’s not. Gotta love Indiana for trying to get him though.

  • Brad Lohaus 54

    Blazers must really hate Wilson

  • flossy

    Randolph for Fernandez?!

WOW they must be smoking that strong Canadian sh!t over in Portland because that trade proposal is garbage.

  • DatNewYorker

I rather keep Chandler. Portland wants too much for him. There is now way Walsh was giving up Randolph for Rudy Fernandez. If Rudy really wants to come to NY he can just play through his contract and come as a free agent.

  • knicks613

    another story for non-publiction.
why would we have any interest in rudy?
he’s just a perimeter guy with no defensive umphhh!
we have roger and landry and bill.
you see him in the fibas.
    he’s weak.
we want wilson and ar and timofey!

  • BiggieSmalls

Rudy put up 19 pts 5 boards with 2 steals last nite.

the blazers are clearly overvaluing him.

no one wants Chandler for a first rounder.

  • cms9675

You know what’s funny? All of july and half of last month all anybody would say on this blog is “we need to get this guy”. Now that everybody has gotten the chance to see him play its a different story. I said it from jump, he isn’t that impressive. He’s got a killer jumper, but that’s it. I bet half the people that wanted him so bad never even saw him play, they just read a couple stories and looked at some stats, then made up their mind that this was the guy to go for. Next time do your homework before you go all gung ho for a guy who been buried on the bench for a team so willing to give him up.

  • HaS

“Randolph for Fernandez would not have been a good trade.”

That has to be the understatement of the year.

I don’t even want Rudy here at all anymore. Watching him in the World’s he looks more flash than substance and a player after the highlight play. He’s a bad defender, he’s weak and he’s a headcase for actually complaining about his role on a winning team with so many holes in his game.

    I’ll pass.

  • HankNight

Anthony Randolph for Rudy Fernandez…tell me when I should stop laughing.

    …not yet, okay.

    …still laughing!

  • dino of syracuse

    Sign Lauren Jackson!

  • jaknicksfan

Thats 100% right Chris, no way is rudy worth randolph, we dont even know if he would be a very good starter and we are about to learn about randolph, but i would rather go with the big man than a guard anyday

  • jaknicksfan

LMAO, rather have her than rudy!

  • dino of syracuse

She’s easier on the eyes, and at least if she whines, she has an excuse :D

(Oops, I probably shouldn’t have said that.)

Seriously though, she had 23 points and 17 boards last night…

    Now that’s a lady!

  • knicks613

    p.s.
    rudy’s 19 was vs. canada.
timofey’s 18 points and 4 rebounds in 19 minutes looks great in extended highlight on youtube vs. greece.
i know greece tanked it to avoid the us side.
i know the complainers want to see better rebounding.
    but he is real active.
and quick and strong TO THE RIM.
and i think he will be fun to watch in nyc.
we should see us vs. russia next week!
that will be a great opportunity for him.
    go timofey!

  • KnickFan4Life

So portland would have gotten Anthony Randolph and a first for Rudy I haven’t done jack squat in the NBA living off my international rep Fernandez. How perfect for them. They are delusional. Right on Knicks for nixing!!!!

  • KnickFan4Life

oops, lol, Randolph would hav went to Indiana, still I’d rather keep Randolph. Him and Fernandez have comparable current value and Randolph frankly has more upside.

  • KnickFan4Life

This Rudy thing just doesn’t go away. And this new Portland GM, wow what a way to intro yourself. No one is going to want to deal with this guy…

  • giantg

Read that Golden State and Minne were talking some type of AR for Kevin Love deal before the Walsh made the D Lee trade. Though undersized what do you think of Love playing center for NY (assuming that type of trade could be resucitated)?

Love = physical rebounding, solid paint and mid range game and above avg passing skills. Knicks would miss shot blocking potential and ball handling but Love might be a better option at the 5 than Randolph or Stoudamire.

Again assuming the Knicks had right pieces (AR & ?) to make that trade it would effectively have converted D Lee into Love who might be a potentially better, younger, cheaper version of an undersized 5.

    Thoughts?

  • KnickFan4Life

As for Melo it’s looking more to me like he’ll get traded at break or a little before…the Nets are a serious contender because I think they would be desperate enough to trade for him without an extension, their offseason was a total flop…

  • KnickFan4Life

I don’t really “love” Love, lol. Great college player. Good NBa player. Nothign special. Randolph has a chance to be special.

  • J_Starks3

Hey big, we can’t trade AR yet anyways right???

    You are TKB official capologist.

  • J_Starks3

You obviously haven’t seen enough of him. The Guy is supper athletic anddits perfectly into this system.

  • J_Starks3

Check that we traded for Randolph not sign him.

  • http://facebook.com/willhanza Will H

Against CANADA. Who cares, they blew out a bad time.

  • Dylan

Wow that would have been a horrible trade for the Knicks. I don’t know what Portland is thinking. The guy only averaged 8 ppg last year, is old for a guy who has only played two seasons, plays no defense, and publicly stated that he wants out of Portland. He has no trade value, and Portland needs to realize that sooner or later. I wouldn’t even give up Chandler for him, let alone Randolph.

  • KnickFan4Life

    Cho’s making a heck of a first impression…

  • DatbklynKnickfandude

Glad as hell DW didn’t trade Randolph, he’s projected to be a big part of Damfoni’s rotation, at least according to the Bleacher Report. They have the Knicks being able to put 8 different sets on the floor

Projected Starting Lineup: Felton, Chandler, Gallinari, Stoudemire, and Turiaf

Tall: Roger Mason, Gallinari, Randolph, Stoudemire, Mozgov

Fast Break: Felton, Douglas, Azubuike, Gallinari, Randolph

Rebounding: Felton, Chandler, Gallinari, Randolph, Mozgov

Defense: Felton, Azubuike, Chandler, Randolph, Turiaf

3-PT: Felton, Douglas, Mason, Azubuike, Gallinari

    Free Throw: PG-Douglas, SG-Mason,SF-Azubuike, PF-Chandler, C-Gallinari

    Scoring: PG-Felton,SG-Chandler,SF-Gallinari,PF-Amare,C-Randolph

With the possibility of being without Azubuike, who takes his place on fastbreaks, defense, 3-points, and free throws?

  • HaS

Love > Lee, but why would we want to go through the undersized center experiment again?

Love is stronger and more willing to bang (pause) than Lee, but he’s also less athletic which would probably lead to him being even more overmatched against the better centers.

Obviously watching him would be less painful in that he would hustle more than Lee, but it probably would have the same result.

  • Boots

He was traded for with the Knicks under the cap. Hence, no waiting period.

  • gianthinker

I love Rudy but don’t even think we need him here anymore. And they want a 1st rounder for him? No way. I don’t even know if I’d do Chandler for him straight up. Rudy’s a guy you’d like to have on your roster but shouldn’t give up much for.

  • clydetheglyde

    probably Wilson

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Portland is going for the I will give you silver for gold approach. Not big on Rudy from the start but I understood we have a hole at the 2 guard. Leave well enough alone, plus I don’t even think the Knicks have been asking for Rudy anymore I think Portland and the media are throwing it out there. The Knicks are like 15 deep already. Chandler for Rudy makes no sense just like Randolph for Rudy makes no sense. But I can see we will be discussing who is available in a trade the whole season. I feel sorry for the players who will be looking over their shoulder every game and practice.

  • kousinkar

Hang up the phone, Donnie – immediately. Is Fernandez even better than Mason or Buike? He had ample opportunity to showcase himself when Roy went down, and did not deliver.

For once in the past two years, I actually like this squad. And I am more excited about Anthony Randolph’s potential than any other player on the team. Unless there’s a chance of nabbing CP3 (which there isn’t, now that Collison’s out of the picture), let these guys develop some chemistry.

Summary: Randolph for Fernandez? You’ve got to be @#%$ing kidding me. I hope Donnie didn’t even have to think about this one.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

I wanna say this tho I hope everyones excitement over Randolph comes to fruition. I’m starting to believe fans already look at him as the face of the team for the present and future. To me from what I’ve seen he is good but nothing to go crazy over.

  • bob go knicks

    maybe theyve seen him play

  • PickNY

    BF yourself!

  • bob go knicks

we sure could use another point guard

  • BrooklynsFinest1

PickNy do you wonder why your irrelevant on this blog? Look at your statements and ask yourself why.

  • KV

Oh yeah, I’m seriously tired of this nets and rockets talk surrounding melo….if the nets won’t give up brook, they don’t stand s chance…even with their number of pics…….COME ON MAAAANNNN…….THESE DUDES WON 12 games dude…what melo get outta playin with those cats?…….ON TO THE NEXT ONE……..these rockets… yao Ming’s whole career is now questionable so….I doubt Denver would want him in a trade and I also doubt melo would sign because of the same reason.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Only going off speculation imo opinion playing on the Nets would be a disaster for Melo, being the second class citizen on a 12 win team and zero fan base makes no sense. Houston is not a team that you would call sexy even tho they have some nice players that would compliment Melo but the Rockets like the Spurs don’t get much publicity. So if he wants to be the man, make money not only from his contract but endorsements, and be the King of NY he would do good and sign with the Knicks.

  • TobyKnight

I’d be willing to do the Chandler for Fernandez swap because we really have Wilson for one more year before we can’t afford him. We need that money for another big FA (Melo?) or piece (CP?).

As a total aside – I just read about Revis’s grandmother telling a reporter that Revis feels so disrespected that he may never play for the Jets again.
Wow. I’d like to be disrespected like that. $122 million worth of disrespect. That guy was one of my favorite players, but now I wish the Jets would be able to trade him for another star and some #1 picks so that I can root against him. What an ass. I’m OK with him holding out for a better deal, but the dude is a greedy SOB. Take the $122 million and STFU Darrell.

Ok – now back to your regularly scheduled Knick programming.

  • bluemax

Why can’t we manage at SG with what we have? Do we really need Rudy that we have to give up Chandler?

Just play Chandler/Mason/Walker until AZ comes back and then makes a decision based on what you have. Granted Chandler is RFA next year but he is still a valuable player far superior to Rudy.

If Chandler has a good season (very possible) we could find a trading partner later on before the trading deadline and get a much better deal anyway than Rudy.

  • HaS

Rudy Ray Moore > Rudy Fernandez

  • Simsay24

Play atleast half the season with the pieces we currently have and evaluate who’s worth trading at the deadline or by next offseason. We seemingly have a solid, versatile team on paper, why continue to entertain additional moves?

  • DieNasty

I agree with sticking to what we have right now and see
who’s our real players and who’s our trading pieces.
Anthony Randolph looks promising and would not be worth
trading for Rudy Fernandez in my opinion. Let’s see what Randolph is… Forget about Rudy and let’s play with our new young team.

  • Simsay24

Yea, I’m really excited about Randolph but hearing him involved in trade talk for Melo is frustrating. Walsh will go from hero to zero for throwing away Gallo and AR in such a trade when we can end up with Melo next year anyway.

  • HaS

Rudy from Fat Albert > Rudy Fernandez

  • bockersORbriefs

also > than Rudy Fernandez … Rudy Huxtable, Rudy the movie, and Rudy Giuliani (on 9/11 that is) …
