Nets To Wait for Melo Free Agency?

But the Nets have enough pieces, including 10 draft picks over three years and young players, to devise a trade for Anthony.

In recent years, that has been the way teams have gone if dealing franchise players — seeking picks and cap relief over star power-for-star power deals. Whatever the price, it appears Brook Lopez would not be allowed to enter the equation and is the Nets’ lone untouchable.

Should Denver gamble and keep Anthony, the Nets would be in position next summer with roughly $20 million in cap space to make a free-agency pitch.

Interesting.

What this writer says nothing about, is that Melo has to want to play for the Nets for them to trade for him. Yes they probably have the best assets but they would not give them up if Melo was not going to resign. Once it gets to free agency, I think the Knicks are in a much better position then the Nets because of the current roster.

Hopefully every team decides to take this approach, which would allow a team like the knicks to show that they are a team on the rise. We have already begun practicing with each other since earlier in the offseason, so we should be able to hit the ground running once we start the season. Plus having the entire team out in europe should do wonders chemistry wise. Trading all of your assets just to get one player (no matter how talented) is a bad idea. The best way to build a team in my opinoin is to build through the draft and free agency. Players these days want to win and its not gonna happen if the team they’re traded to has to give up too much. I don’t blame fans for wanting carmelo or any other player who they feel could help the team that they love. I blame the journalist and the tv and radio personalities for this mess.

The Nets scare me in this. I can’t lie. I can see them pulling off a trade and getting him to sign since he’ll be in BK where he and his wife are from but he’d have to choose Lopez over Amare and BK over MSG. But I could see it happening. Crazier things have happened we all thought wouldn’t happen. But if Melo hits free agency I’m convinced he’s ours.

I don’t know if I would be convinced but id definitely be happier to see him hit free agency than to see him go via trade. Who ever gets him will get a valuable piece, as long as they don’t have to give up the farm.

10 draft picks over the next three years..

wow.. what do we have? 3?

  • HankNight

Houston being able to swap picks with us this year-it’s more like 2 1/2 picks that we have.

  • Tommy Dee

Knicks have 2 second rounders from the golden state trade and a second rounder from the nate trade…

  • BiggieSmalls

those are unspecified future second rounders.

Leave DEN to go to the Nets! why on earth would he do that?

He would have to carry that team and take a beating every night. Doesn’t make any sense to me unless the nets can prove they can field a respectable team (let alone a winner) and they are in fact (not rumored) playing in BK. And even then.

IF the nets don’t give up lopez, who will give that can balance out the trade????…..troy Murphy and a pick…..oh….let me guess, devil, Murphy and 2 picks…..Lmao…..haha…..then who will melo have to play with to form the big 3 that he wants????
