    nice job..

as Larry says.. the next CBA represents substantial financial risk to players facing free agency in 2011.

  • Tommy Dee

with the players having leverage based on small market spending. Bottom line for the league is bad management= significant loss of revenue.

Melo extend and trade is the most likely scenario it seems. In that case, he has the right to choose his team.

  • BiggieSmalls

agreed..extend and trade is the likely end game

but not sure it’s a much a one team race as you report.i hope you are right..

not excited about the distraction to the first half of the season.. no excuses though.

There’s always going to be distractions that get more coverage than the actual basketball, these days. We just have to keep reminding ourselves that its a spin machine and it’s never going to go away. I hate that the biggest stories about a team always involve a player who isn’t even on the team; but i don’t let that convince me that fans don’t care about real basketball. We know what the real fans are thinking about.

  • Jeff C

Unless you are a championship team; that’s the only way to get the media to focus on the hear and now and stop making up stories. Teams that can’t win the championship have to come up with something else to talk about every day.

Unfortunately, you have to get really lucky in a rare situation to actually be that kind of team. Number one draft picks, (duncan) having kobe bryant and getting pau shack for nothing, having kobe bryant and getting gasol for nothing, aquiring ray allen and garnett to add to paul pierce.

Except for the pistons of course

  • Jeff C

a team like the jazz was never going to win a championship, but that doesn’t mean they arent a good team and that their coach/management didn’t do a great job. They did everything they could for their team. But that doesn’t cut it. You have to do something crazy, like clear capspace and sign LBJ and bosh, in order to actually be a perrennial championship caliber team.

Looks like we’re playing our boy in the second round.

There will be some players that money can’t buy them to stay!

Another option I i talked about a few times is also coming to a head and a much more doable!!

    Via ESPN insider.

Both Xaiver Henry and Greivis Vasquez, first-round draft picks of the Grizzlies, continue to remain unsigned.

(We’ve previously highlighted the specifics of the contract issues with Memphis.)

And as of right now, it doesn’t look like conversations are progressing.

“There have been little-to-no conversations between the sides since the Griz participated in Summer League in July,” wrote Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal in a blog post Friday.

With training camp quickly approaching, it’s possible the team could be without their rookies, which could put them steps behind their teammates.

Additionally, teams have inquired about Henry’s availability in a trade, and it’s possible if the side continue in this standstill, the Grizzlies could go that route.

Xaiver Henry is somebody who can really fit our team much more then Rudy. Magoo needs to really investigate!! TD, Walker, Fields for Xaiver Henry could maybe get it done.

Xaiver Henry would really help and to be honest if they want chandler then I would be fine with it as well but Magoo needs to get on his job with this he cant let this get away chasing an over priced Rudy with a bad back when this guy fits the bill!!

    Mustache…DRINK!

  • BiggieSmalls

stellar idea.. not sure they want chandler though

In hindsight those trades seem like they were for “nothing”, but at the time they weren’t as bad as people make them out to be.

Pau was traded for his brother Marc who is turning into a really good player and draft picks I believe.

Garnett was traded for Al Jefferson who at the time was a promising rookie a high draft pick (which happened to be Minnesota’s own if I’m not mistaken) Gerald Green talented with potential etc.

Kobe, a high school kid, was traded for on draft night (I think) for a proven center in Vlade Divac. Turned out great for the Lakers, but he could have easily been another Gerald Green.

There is a lot of risk and luck involved, but it helps to be smart and some teams seem to just be smarter than others. The Lakers, the Spurs (Ginobli, Parker etc.) even the Jazz who always seem to find good undrafted players or late picks who contribute for them.
