great job.. we’ve probably seen more of mosgov this summer than we’ll see all year.

  • ridiculous upside

Future hall of famer? Future hall of famer!

  • Jimbo

wow incredibly bad defense by the black guy at 1:37

  • knicks613

    hey biggie,
what brings a smile to you?
how can you not find some enjoyment from this?
timofey looks good here and suggests mgmt had their heads on straight and were clever.
we never can be sure with any draft picks; this one has promise.

  • PickNY

    Man, Forget Biggie!

  • BiggieSmalls

i just dont have my hopes up that the “Coach” will use the guy..

he looks decent against a bunch of stiffs.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

This is unbelievable, its like Mosgov is being pushed as the second coming of Wilt. I’ve seen more clips of Mosgov then any Knick in a long time. I hope he plays and plays the way his youtube clips show him. Why us, Tommy lol

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Hey that’s how stars are born Biggie, its like what has Darko done that has him still in the league.

  • knicks613

well that’s a different story, with some merit.
but at least give tf some props for the skill he has shown.
i certainly hope we get a look at him vs. the usa next week!!!
and certainly we have to hope herb can build him for md’a.

  • ds2488

I have to say I’m very impressed with him so far. He moves really well without the ball and off the pick and roll, and seems like a smart player and a willing defender.

I would love to see this kid get some minutes, but I’m not quite holding my breath that it will happen.

Ideally he would get 10+ minutes a game at center along with Turiaf who would get 20 minutes a game leaving Amare to play the remainder like 15 minutes a game as the center in a smallball lineup with both Gallo and Randolph.

Here’s my ideal breakdown of the minutes

    Felton- 33 minutes at pg
    Wilson- 34 between sg/sf
    Gallo- 34 at sf
Amare- 24 per game at pf, 9-10 at c
Turiaf- 18-20 per game as starting center
Toney- 15 per game as backup point + 5 to 8 more as sg
Azubuike- 14 per game as backup sf
Randolph- 24 per game as pf, at least to make sure he’s fully healthy first and then his minutes can increase, maybe at the center spot a little.
    Mason-10 minutes as backup sg
Mozgov- The remainder of minutes at the center spot.

That’s a 10 man rotation. Not sure if Dantoni’s willing to do that, so Mason/Douglas/and Azubuike will be fighting for a spot is my guess.

I think Mozgov might actually have to get minutes. Dantoni has been talking like Amare is only the power forward and Amare himself has said he doesn’t want to play center for extended minutes. That leaves the rest of the minutes at center to be divided between Turiaf(who won’t play more than 20 minutes my guess), Randolph(who probably won’t be able to play more than 10 minutes at center), and then the rest of the minutes would probably go to Mozgov, depending on how much Amare plays center.

I hope so. I’d like to see what this kid could do in the NBA. He looks promising.

  • BiggieSmalls

i dont have much confidence in Herb Williams doing anything earth shattering.

he can likely contribute by playing poist defense but the “Coach” wont give him the opportunity.. mark my words.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Mosgov looks fluid and we will see him play against the US soon. He will get minutes but if he doesn’t do well from the start he will get the Jerome James seat on the bench.

  • ScottD

Here’s a link providing some backround on the player that Mozgov was matched up against.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sofoklis_Schortsanitis

  • Pavvy

i hope you guys are liking my uploads of mozgovs analysis – it looks like ds2488 does!
but damn the moment he checks in its almost instant that hell dunk it off the pick and roll- its his bread and butter!!!!!

oh and about his rebounding- people tend to forget hes 7’1 – most 7’1 players cant really move fast to get rebounds – i doubt you can find a player his size averaging more than 10 rebounds a game

  • Jeff C

Dude nobody is saying anything like that. This is a knicks blog and the knicks just signed a russian player who is playing in the world championships, so we are watching his highlights. I don’t see the problem with that. There weren’t even any words in this post its just a video but somehow it requires a rebuttal.

  • bob go knicks

this guy is pretty nimble for a seven footer

  • Jeff C

So far from the truth big. We signed a center for a reason; we have none. he’s definitely going to play. It’s not like he’s some lumbering big man with no offensive game, he’s athletic and fast, and also happens to be able to defend the paint. There’s no way he doesn’t get playing time. This isn’t some random second round draft pick like jerome jordan, he’s first round talent making first round money and they brought him here to play.

  • itzyung1

They are showing the Highlights so we can get a feel for how he plays since most likely 98 percent of us haven’t seen him play.

  • itzyung1

Can’t wait to see Mosgoz against Team USA next week if he can pass that test he should earn him some minutes. Hell if Jared Jeffries started in this system how come Mozgov can’t get 20 minutes?

  • flossy

He’s tall, can run and looks good in the PnR. Why on earth would D’Antoni give him no burn?

  • flossy

    seriously

  • DwaneT

You gotta love the modified set-shot at the 1:00 mark. That was old school. Add the drive down the lane from the to of the key, and you know he at least is not scared to put it up. He’s young, he runs, he has heart. I’m willing to let him try and fail rather than issue the fail in advance.

  • Pavvy

if dantoni extends his rotation to 9 then turiaf and mozgov should share the center minutes playin alongside amare and randolph!!! – u cant really project anythin right now because theyre all pretty young and unproven yet except for amare!!

  • knicks613

    pavvy,
    thanks for all your work!!!!
the youtube clip i saw was a russian 15 minute review of all baskets.
timofey looks fluid and diverse with his shot or going to the basket.
    he definitely loves pnr.
on defense, i would like to see a bit more iq.
improve the timing of his switching.
i don’t mind the rebounding, per se, as he does look to lock his defender first.
BUT I LOVE HIS ENERGY AND THE WAY HE GOES TO THE RIM.
i hope he can remain confident in ‘da new country’
i’m excited for him and us.

  • moderatethis

jeeeeeeeezz your the worst big smh

  • Bloop33

+1 Buncha complaining ass ****** lol.

  • taldybrandy

Give mosgov a chance i know he will be one of the best center in the nba.

  • Bloop33

Its mind boggling we can’t even count Curry in for anything court related lol.

  • Pavvy

hes definetly gonna need some nba training- as the nba is a lot quicker and stronger than what hes been playing with~! i think hell match up good with the likes of the semi-centers for now- like kristic or that hibbert guy from pacers

  • akdrum

Hopefully NBA players haven’t figured this guy out-he can dribble better then AH20-If MD’A uses him wisely, he could become a very dangerous weapon- Like when JVG used Marcus in 99,nobody figured that out and look where they went…but the again that was VG.We’ll see if “coach” can do better than his previous 2 seasons. But you have to admit Biggie- they got some better players. How bout some cautious optimisim?

  • akdrum

    This’ll be Donnie’s Ric Smits

  • Pavvy

are u tryin to defend curry??

  • BiggieSmalls

I appreciate the clips and the work

I like watt he is showing against lesser competition

If the “coach” plays him more than 5-7 a game then mea culpa

  • BiggieSmalls

    +1

But JJ was playing to get traded as a favor to Donnie

  • ds2488

lol yeah, Great stuff Pavvy. It’s good to see some of our players play instead of constantly talking about Lebron, CP3, and Carmelo.

  • DieNasty

The Big Russian looks pretty agile and athletic. Ofcourse, I know
he’s not playing against NBA players, but he looks pretty good.
If he can play alongside A’mare and learn some power moves,
this could be a nice COMBO downlow. I know, i’m probably
getting 2 excited 2 soon but it’s been a long time since a Knicks fan could get a lil’ excited about our BIGS… you know what
    i’m sayin’!!!

  • DwaneT

I didn’t think of that before. GM’s are formulaic, so you’re probably right.

  • Richporter

every time you put clips up on this guy..he looks worst and worst..smh

  • flossy

I hope not but look at it this way, at least he’s not getting Jerome James money. And if he can play a solid 15 mpg, then he’s actually a pretty good deal. Low risk, high reward.

  • dreamer3kx

Man, that competition is just dreadful, they are disgracing their countries, Im sorry.

  • DatNewYorker

The USA team does not have any big low post players. Chandler is the only center on the USA team. If Mozgov can protect the paint against the US team which i think he can then deserves playing time. I expect him to dominate on the pick and roll because the USA team are not playing traditional basketball. They don’t play the only center Chandler enough because the competition is poor. The USA team don’t have any low post players on this team at all so you won’t be able to if he can guard a talented low post player.

  • ridiculous upside

    But does he look worstest?

  • Rod Thorn

Herb Williams is probably one the most over rated asst coaches. Herb coupled with antoni means no shot blocks and no defense down low. Avid lee was taught his defensive skills by herb. Bring in a real coach to help out with the big men.

  • bluemax

hey, he actually made a 15 footer on this one and a couple from the line. he actually do something else besides put backs and dunks. there might be hope.

he definitely has a good energy level and some quickness. So at that size he should get some time on the floor.

That first 2004 season in PHO, MD did give Steven Hunter minutes and he couldn’t shoot a lick. he was just there for an energy boost and garbage baskets. So why not Mosgov.

  • Jayo

    +100 a bunch of haters …

  • HaS

” We signed a center for a reason; we have none. he’s definitely going to play. It’s not like he’s some lumbering big man with no offensive game, he’s athletic and fast, and also happens to be able to defend the paint. There’s no way he doesn’t get playing time. Thought the

  • HaS

Thought the same thing about Darko when he was traded for, but the “coach” chose to play Lee there for nearly 40 mins a night even with lack of effort defending the paint or his man.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Mosgov seems to be a decent player who can contribute to the team one way or the other, but if we need Mosgov to do well this season then we have major problems. Not saying thats whats being said.

  • BiggieSmalls

    over rated?

i thought it was common knowledge Herb sucked.\\

    nice guy but awful coach.

  • KV

We all know our league is a bit more advanced but mozgov looks better than our bigs do….as of now, he looks better than chandler, icon and love….I do also acknowledge the fact that he is a go to guy on his team and our bigs( because of excess talent at smaller positions ) are third options……my point is, we will need this dude against teams like LA, Boston…etc….don’t think NYK gave him that money to bench him……..we are no longer in a destroying state…..The rebuilding has begun.

  • Richporter

Smh.i still cant believe how much the knicks paid this guy.
I bet u it was tommy dee idea.lol

  • knicks613

you know ak that’s a good analogy.
in fact, i’ll bet dw has said privately,
“this kid could be another rik smits”
    good call.

  • knicks613

    no, worster and worster.

  • knicks613

i suppose you’d be happier paying thabeet 4-5 mm per season.
take alook at 1st round salaries.
and timofey would be a 1st round pick.
the knicks cut a smart deal with him.
plus he had to pay his buyout.

  • itzyung1

Yeah True but I Guess we’ll see how serious Mike was when he said we a re playing to win this season.

  • bob go knicks

I hate guys who use the word “HATERS”

  • PickNY

I don’t care who on this post don’t believe the Big Fella isn’t getting any playing time this year is clueless! This guy will get minutes and is going to surprise some people. The dude is huge and size matter in the paint! His agile enough where many are going to under estimate his ability will be their biggest mistake while looking FOOLISH! MOS has the ability to learn the NBA around the likes of STAT/Turiaf and finally AR! I see more heart in MOS than Curry! I guess Curry was a bad example, my bad! Ha!

MOS, I believe in yah Big Fella! Who doesn’t love an underdog!

  • ds2488

I don’t know. I agree that Darko should have played more, but in the end it is Darko we’re talking about here lol.

I’d much rather take a risk on an unproven or unknown than to rely on Darko for anything.

I really hope the coach plays Mozgov. I really didn’t care at all about Darko, although I think he deserved more of a shot. I was much angrier about Jordan Hill.

  • bob go knicks

THE ONLY REASON GUYS LIKE jEFFRIES and chandler get any burn whatsoever is that for the last 3 years ,the Knicks have had nobody else to put in.Do you actually think that if the knicks were any frggn good, guys like that would see time?

  • J_Starks3

If you think the fraud of a coach we have is going to a ten man rotation then you haven’t been watching him for the last two years.

By the way my two cents on Mozgov is he gets playing time with Ronnie at the 5 that way Amare goes where he belongs at the 4.

  • bob go knicks

“they are disgracing their countries” Thats the stupidest thing i have ever read on this blog! Its a basketball game junior. You have just disgraced YOURSELF

  • bob go knicks

Herb Williams taught Patrick Ewing everthing he knows.(except the finger roll)

  • BrooklynsFinest1

If you love the fact that size matters and you love the underdog and you want that kind of player to get minutes I got an underdog for you who is rated higher than Mosgov. How about you go rally behind Darko, Greg Oden and Hasheem Thabeet I mean they are in the same boat and you cant teach size plus they are the ultimate underdogs. SMH

  • flossy

Rik Smits was 7’4″ and had a nice jumper. Let’s not get carried away.

  • blackwood

Chandler? How would chandler not get burn?

  • bob go knicks

if we had a good team,a scrub like chandler would be pickin bench outta his ass….why do you think every GM in the nba, does’nt want him in a trade

  • bob go knicks

donnie already had his ric smits. If im not mistaken, his name was RIC SMITS!

  • bob go knicks

yeah, for the money they paid him,not only he better see minutes, but he better be very good

  • A Knicks Fan

It was a video highlights but I think he really knows how to play the game and we should be optimistic.

(Sorry! English is my second language.)

  • Jayo

    Hater..

  • KV

Mozgov will get time and make good of it…….ppl keep forgetting, dantoni is an offensive MASTER….every superstar player in the league agrees……..Nash had back to back MVPS under dantoni’s regime……..as well as a 60+ win season…..mozgov will ball hard….trust me…the KNICKS have positioned themselves to be able to recruit top FAs for the next few seasons so, dantoni has to make the world believers by making the KNICKS WINNERS.

  • Pavvy

yeah good point- i rather watch our player play in the world championships rather tan talking constantly about rumors and blablabla-
its not really lesser competition- there are really good teams in this tournament such as argentina spain- greece- turkey and of course USA. its just a different type of basketball as its more of a set up offense and zone defenses to go along with lots of perimeter shooting

  • johneco

I don’t agree that Darko should have played more. He was a lumbering dolt who was below average in every way (except maybe shotblocking where he was just average).

Mozgov is less clear – he looks more mobile, hopefully he has a better development. I doubt he gets any time now though.

  • Boaz
  • thebossandbenji76

He’s impressive, that’s for sure. Starting to like the idea of Felton, Gallo, Randolph, Amare and Turiaf/Mosgov as your starting 5, let Turiaf and Mosgov battle it out at the 5 for min’s, awfully tall lineup, may have to play a zone D if u do that lineup.

  • HaS

“I don’t agree that Darko should have played more. He was a lumbering dolt who was below average in every way (except maybe shotblocking where he was just average).”

    _’antoni?

That couldn’t be more false. He was billed as perfect for your “system” he runs the floor well and isn’t any slower than Gallinari who plays the SF position. He blocks shots really well a lot more than “just average”, the “coach” just refused to play him for whatever reason.

    Is this “lumbering?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGmROEFbArM

    Kid shoulda been playing. Period.

  • HaS

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NJSNeFqRZI&feature=related

    Another “lumbering” move.

I still say this Mozgov kid looks no better than Darko and if he plays then he could have definitely played Darko (who already had NBA experience) last year.

Anyone who doesn’t see that just has a massive mancrush on _’antoni.

  • HaS

I heard that the other team was throwing the game in order to avoid the other bracket. Worked out for him though.

  • Rod Thorn

PlEase enough with the mosgov starting for us. Let’s see him play against some decent NBA talent before we make him out to be the next starting center.

  • PickNY

I can’t help that you can’t see that MOS is better than them! Ha! Stop hating and putting this MOS in the same category as those scrubs!

I guess if I saw your game I can put you in the same category as the scrub too!

  • PickNY

    Agree witcha KV!

  • BiggieSmalls

    on the golf course maybe.

  • Pavvy

here are the highlights vs ivory coast where he had 18 points!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAkOZIY0dlw

  • Ftingue

Whose the fat guy OMG!!! he’s Garbage defined. why would you even pass him the ball? How did he make the team? No Defense no Offense… MSG must’ve him to make Timmy look good? lol
