@JonRothstein: Was just told by an #NBA GM that the #Nuggets have no interest in #Knicks forward Danilo Gallinari in a trade for Carmelo Anthony

how bout a mozgov thread with the USA game for those of us who missed it? no disrespect but this melo thing is turning into a travesty ..

  • http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3930 Knicks2RingCircus

I’d like to know what they actually would accept along with a future #1 pick; do they think they’re going to get brook lopez? Beyond brook, of the teams interested, who truly has a player to dangle with more upside than gallo? I don’t think noah represents that guy, if the clippers were really in it, would gordon or griffin be up?

  • BO

MELO JUST CHILL THE HELL OUT AND JOIN US NEXT SUMMER. IF HE CANT WAIT BRING ON jAMAAL CRAWFORD.

  • NoVaCaInE

    What a surprise!

  • BrooklynsFinest1

LOL bring on Jamal Crawford I hope that was sarcasm. I guess the Gallo fans can sleep easier now that unless its a GM chess match going on to see who will blink first Gallo aint that good around the league. Makes me wonder if and only if this is the feeling around the NBA why so many Knick fans view our players so highly?

  • BO

GALLO, CURRY , CHANDLER AND MORE… I WOULDN’T DO IT. MELO CANT EVEN WIN WITH BILLUPS AND NENE.

  • BO

I TRULY BELIEVE THAT OUR TEAM IS JUST IN NEED OF A REFINED TWO-GUARD AND WE’LL BE RELEVANT AGAIN. LETS NOT GUT OUT OUR TEAM

  • jg1170

“its a GM chess match going on to see who will blink first”

Imo that’s exactly what this is.

There have been many teams mentioned but the Knicks were the first and have been mentioned the most.

Trading Melo to the Knicks now would not be in the Nuggs best interest.

And devaluing the Knicks assets increases their position when/if a trade goes down.

  • PipeDreamin

Listen… If Melo wants to WIN as a Knick he knows where and when he can find us.

    2011 free agency.

    No assets lost.

In the meantime, I’m ready to go to war with our young guys and show everyone what we’re made of. Let these boys mature and hopefully get some playoff reps.

  • Don Che

One..that writer is a herb, Two..all of this is leverage for Denver… at the same time..I really dont think we have offered anything to anyone just yet. I think we are waiting for this year to start up before we try to disrupt this group. Melo doesnt make anyone a championship team. If the Bulls give up Noah, they have a lot of wholes defensively as well. and think about it..ONE ball for Boozer/Melo and Rose…tough call. Either way Melo will in Denver when the season starts.

  • jlef1

I sort of hope this is true because I think gallo has the potential to become a star and I want to see him develop as a knick… but at the same time I personally think John Rothstein is an idiot and really has no idea what he is talking about

  • BrooklynsFinest1

I hear ya, but are you willing to lose games with the goal of Gallo and Randolph developing? I can tell you Mike Dantoni aint he wants to win now. And if you was Mike after 2 years of horrible basketball with the goal of 2010 and Lebron you would probably want to win now too.

  • flossy

Obviously he would say that. Any GM who starts out negotiations with “OMG I love what you’re offering!!” should be fired immediately. That doesn’t mean they won’t take Gallo if faced with no better options. Gallo clearly is a whole lot better than nothing.

Please, never take the parties in a negotiation like this at their word. “No interest in Gallo” means “we’re trying to squeeze you for as much as we can.” Nothing more.

  • giantg

It must be great to be ESPN. You can quote anyone as “an insider”, “close to the team”, “an NBA executive familiar with the situation” and write whatever comes to their mind and never name them or explain their motivations.

Or hey, the deadline is approaching…why not just make some bs up…who is going to remember what was said in 48 hours anyway?

  • http://www.twitter.com/sportsnewsflash sportsnewsflash

I want to get Carmelo Anthony real bad as a Knicks fan. I believe Gallo is going to be a special player, so if we could make a deal without Gallo, I think it would be better.

  • itzyung1

WOW! I am sooo surprised seriously. I guess Melo aint coming to NY.

  • itzyung1

    Mozgov –
“The U.S. built an early six-point advantage before Mozgov began to control the middle. He hit all four of his shots in the first quarter, twice while getting fouled, and his last basket tied it at 25 heading to the second period.”

  • KnickKam

I agree. I don’t wanna sound too homerish but I’m alright if we lose Melo. As long as we put together a decent trade package to at least try and compete with the Bulls or others (without gutting the team), I will be content with letting the cards fall where they may. I really feel that we have an X factor on our team. We might even have a few X factors. If we try and don’t get Melo then I am happily willing to go to war with the team we have.

  • Starksfor3

Last season was essentially Gallo’s rookie year, and he got better and better each month. I think he can be an important piece of the foundation here. I’m excited by the guys we have now, and would like them to have the opportunity to develop chemistry. I’m also curious to see how Ray Felton plays. If he doesn’t cut it, we might be wiser to make a run at Deron Williams later on.

  • giantg

jg, I don’t believe that publicly devaluing a player lessens the value to the GM that he currently plays for unless their GM is extremely weak minded about their own asset. Donnie isn’t that guy.

What it does do however (if in the end they do get Danillo) is make an eventual trade even harder to sell to the fans and could really piss off Gallo who theoretically could be wearing a Nuggets jersey next year. The ticket holders are going to be unhappy regardless sure but why urinate on what could become your asset in a package?

It smells like one part rumor, one part heresay and two dashes of media hype

  • KnickKam

“If he doesn’t cut it, we might be wiser to make a run at Deron Williams later on.”

Good point. On a Dantoni team a good pg>sg

  • KnickKam

    Sorry meant good pg>sf

  • jlef1

When previewing the 2009 NBA draft and Jon Rothstein came on the msg network to break down the point guards in the draft… Rothstein compared Johny Flynn to Chuckey Atkins in terms of getting to the basket… After that was said i will never ever believe anything Jon Rothstein says.. I actually will fully believe the opposite of what he says.. So the headline of this should really say… ” Nuggets in love with Gallo

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Question why are so many Knick fans so invested in wanting to keep Gallo and on top of that thinking he will be an All Star of the level of Melo, please explain?

  • snadler

I couldn’t disagree with you more, first of all as I posted earlier no knick fan wants to admit why Gallo isn’t getting the trade value he deserves. The simple answer is his back. Despite him showing that the he can stay healthy teams are scared off by it. Also if you are fine with watching this team develop, then get used to being a 40-45 win team and a first round playoff exit. With melo on the bulls, and the three losers in miami, and the magic..all those teams will be better then the knicks not just for next year but for years to come. Also, your last comment is and will be the same thing us knick fans have been saying for years..First, ok the team sucks now, but just wait till we get lebron, then it’s ok we lost out on wade, we’ll defintely get carmelo, and then it will be it’s ok will get cp3 or deron..well when those guys go elsewhere what ru going to say then? Too many knick fans have been watching such bad basketball for years that it’s exciting to know that this years team won’t be pathetic, but if you truly are satisfied with winning 45 games and never being a true title contender then yes be excited but for me if melo is traded and to the east, no less the bulls then two of my three most hated teams of all-time got significantly title contender better while we just got 8th seed better.

  • clydetheglyde

I think I know why the Nuggets have no interest in Gallo, even though he is better then most of what other teams are giving, because the Knicks have Randolph who has just as much potential as anyone else in the league.
They probably want him more so they have no interest in Gallo.

  • HaS

In an ideal world, you move Gallinari and Chandler, that makes room for Fields and Pat Ewing Jr. to back up Carmelo, Randolph could backup Amar’e.

This whole, “let’s wait for him in free agency so we can keep Gallinari” thought is kind of silly. They cannot play together with Amar’e and now the team has Fields who could be a solid rotation player at SF down the line, while I hold out hope that Ewing Jr. can stick on the team as well at some point. Where are all these forwards going to play?

If there is a way to get Carmelo, get him, it doesn’t make the team a championship contender in year one, but hopefully we can get Paul who I think would find it hard to resist the temptation to play with Amar’e and Carmelo. Then we add a more complete coach and the Knicks would be at least top 2 team in the East and a perennial Eastern Conference Finalist for the next 4 or 5 years.

  • Ray

We dont give up Gallo because he is our own. We drafted him and want to develop him into being a Star. Thats the hope we have for him as a Knicks fan. Nothing sweeting to see your own talent grow and flourish in their sport. Its like that across the board in every sport. Thats what i want to see with Gallo. Let Melo go where ever this year and if he wants to be a Knick we’lll see him in 2011 . As for now , our young fellas are free to play ball and get good minutes. Eff all these politics.

  • mel12

    +1 Has

as much as I like gallo I prefer the knicks
to make a trade for carmelo if there is way
to get him without EC contract that way we could
use that to make a run for CP3 or DWilliams.

  • bob go knicks

Gallo has a much higher hoops IQ than meloand in 3 years,Melo will be looked upon as a malcontent, while Gallo will be top 5 NBA and still goin up

  • NoVaCaInE

    LMAO!!!!

  • BrooklynsFinest1

So Ray I guess your like a Met fan who wants to keep David Wright and Jose Reyes becuase they are the Mets own and the Mets allowed them to grow over the years but where did that get them? How many All Star games and Championships did they win

  • VinnyGo

    Exactly

  • BiggieSmalls

    sign me up.

  • BigTyme

phrases like a source, someone close to him, insider, etc should be against the law much like yelling fire in a crowded public place falsely or screaming bomb in a airport as a gag…gagging is actually what I’m doing these days listening to all this bullspit

  • BigTyme

Hahn tweeted a few weeks ago that it looks like junior definitely has a spot

  • Jayo

Put the drugs down bob, they are F’n with your brain.

  • Old Knick

    WTF ????
I need what bob is smoking or sucking down…
It has to be good stuff…

  • bob go knicks

    methadone and coffee!

  • JeffM729

    Gallo’s potential and ceiling;

    He is looking like a Euro version of Rashard Lewis. Tall, not a strong rebounder, and an excellent outside shooter. Lewis had a few season with 20+ ppg. Look at Lewis’ stats;

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lewisra02.html

It’s not hard to believe that Denver wouldn’t type of player in their system. Their guards are the 3 point shooters and their front line has been very physical. Melo, K-Mart, and Nene can bang down low.

So maybe, just maybe, the report is accurate. Denver may want another style of player as their centerpiece if they deal Melo.

  • HaS

“We dont give up Gallo because he is our own. We drafted him and want to develop him into being a Star.”

They drafted him, they didn’t give birth to him lol.

  • traps9

    Sounds good to me, HaS

  • traps9

This could be true. So, if you know what they want and will except, then you take Gallinari and Chandler and can get a first for each of them (apparently, they think they can get one for Chandler, though I don’t see it) that satisfy Denver and make the deal that way: Curry/Turiaf/two firsts or something like that.

  • bob go knicks

whaddya mean they didnt give birth to him! Then why was donnie walsh in a wheelchair?

  • KnickFan4Life

Reyes and Wright are not the problem, the way the org is run is…

  • Ftingue

good I love Gallo their lost

  • Ftingue

If we try and Melo want some place else Eph him, but if he wants NY and the Knicks mess up the Deal Eph the Knicks, I’ll be done

  • fataljones

good we need to keep him, he’s gonna be a stud.
