More on the Pick and Roll
Here, Landry Fields, who is taller than Raymond Felton, starts the action at foul line extended. He the uses a good angle screen from Amar’e then draws Elton Brand. He doesn’t get to the foul line, but because he has height and the stared at foul line extended he has the angle to attack STAT’s man. With Gallo in the corner, one can assume he made a three from there because Thaddeus Young treats him as a kick-out threat, Fields does a great job of drawing Brand and finding STAT.
There are 3 options on the play obviously based on the defense reacting. The Knicks get nothing down the stretch because defenses close on STAT and the team takes early possession 3s because they are open.
But again, the biggest problem is defense. I actually liked what they were doing and were on the right track in terms of Mozgov at the 5 and Turiaf off the bench making sure one of them is along side STAT. Neither shoots it well enough for STAT to get the space he needs to create however.
My suggestion would be to adjust and get out and run SSOL in the 1st and 3rd quarters and hope for some transition points from the defensive unit by pressing in the 2nd quarter and end of games. Slow the clock down, work the ball through a post player who can play back to the basket. I would think Wilson Chandler‘s quickness could be a positive in the post.
And what happend to Gallo’s new “post moves?” They need back to the basket action in addition to the pick and roll.

3. Make use of the hand-offThe Knicks have run this infrequently, and not once with Stoudemire as the passer, but Raymond Felton has been effective in limited attempts following dribble hand-offs. He’s made 8 of 11 attempts preceded by hand-offs, mostly coming from the supple, generous hands of Timofey Mozgov. Why not run this with Stoudemire instead? A nice shoulder-to-shoulder hand-off with no room for Felton’s man to squeeze through should give Felton an extra step to operate. If Amar’e's man doesn’t rotate, he can pop the jumper or accelerate toward the rim. If Felton’s man is hung up and Amar’e's has to help, then Stoudemire should have an opportunity to roll to the rim. In effect, a well-executed hand-off is just like a solid pick.
