Recap: Knicks 113, Raptors 110

by Pete Jensen on December 8th, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Is there a single player in this league more important to his team than Amar’e Stoudemire?

The $100 million man proved his worth once again down the stretch tonight, as he scored 18 of his 34 points in the final stanza to fuel the Knicks to a 113-110 victory over the Toronto Raptors at MSG for the team’s 6th straight win (11th in 12 games).

The Knicks (14-9) are finally starting to pick up the pace at the World’s Most Famous Arena, and it would be an understatement to say the fans were invigorated after tonight’s performance from their superstar. Stoudemire, despite only collecting 10 points midway through the 3rd quarter, proceeded to nail down his 6th straight 30-point output, one away from the franchise record. You can’t put into words what he has meant to this basketball team, and those MVP chants late in the 4th to applaud the NBA’s 3rd leading scorer were quite appropriate.

He was taking it hard to the bucket with no fear, and when the Raptors took away his lane, he stepped back and made them pay from midrange.

But as dominant as Stoudemire was in this game, he couldn’t have done it without his teammates.

The Raptors were the one man show on this night, as Andrea Bargnani seemingly matched Stoudemire shot for shot in the 4th quarter of this game. Bargnani had 15 points in the 4th and finished with a career-high 41 points to continue his stellar play at the Garden dating back to last season. So when push came to shove in this Eastern Conference battle, the Knicks needed an extra jolt from elsewhere to pull through.

That came from Amar’e sidekick, Raymond Felton, as he connected on an opportunistic, off-balance three-pointer with with 2.7 seconds remaining to lift the Knicks to their 3rd consecutive home win to finally even their record at MSG this year to 5-5.

A big time shot from a guy who has quickly become a big time player.

Landry Fields as well. Whether it was the steal and the transition three-pointer to kick off the final quarter, or his calm weak side layup plus the foul that got the crowd fired up midway through the 4th, this kid one again proved that he was worthy of a 1st round pick last June.

The Knicks are locked into cruise control and their confidence is soaring. What a difference a year can make. Last year, the Knicks could not finish a game in a big spot for the life of them. But this year, the team’s trademark has become the ability to will its way to victory on a night to night basis.

On to our nation’s capital.

its nice to chant MVP for our own players rather than other teams

  • nyknicks19

im not usually one to complain but 43 minutes for stat and felton is just too much against a terrible raptors team this early in the season

  • grahambo86

Not gonna lie, the dunk by Fields earlier in the game, I think 2nd quarter off the rebound and he just screamed after, had me pumped.

  • Jayo

  • Melo2NYplz

yea lebron would not have been happy with spoelstra if he played that many minutes

  • Ray

My man STAT is amazing. So clutch. Felton. So Clutch. Make sure we put votes on these guys so they can make the All Star team. I think Landry needs to start hitting that open jumper and Im still a little disappointed that ARandolph is not in the rotation. Whats the problem?

  • Old Knick

    How about this one….

    Felton > Duhon ???
    LOL!

    Dadawg says hello!

    STAT is an absolute monster

Amar’e : “Sun Zi – Art Of War”

    Reporter : “Who??”

    LMFAO!

  • Knicks4life

Honestly Amare would get my vote for MVP in the league. There is no single player more important to their team.

Raymond Felton is playing at an all-star level and I love the fact he had the heart to take that last shot. Make or miss.

Love the intangibles Chandler, Fields, etc. are bringing.

Love the energy Gallo brought tonight.

Tough tough week coming up, but this team is confident and you never know what will happen with injuries. We may survive this stretch and go .500.

    I actually beleive.

  • Brookdon

    Raptors Blog… Great Win!

“Felton is an all star. Good luck for the rest of the game”

“Felton is the real deal. He’s feelin’ it tonight so somebody needs to knock him on his a** and make him think twice next time he ventures in to the paint.”

“hmmm, who has more upside, Gallinari, or Bargs? Think Galli will have more PPG than Bargs at his age (22 now)?”
    REPLY
“Bargs. Galli will get a reputation as being an actor. He can hit the three but bargs is better at driving, and his offensive game is much more polished.”

    “I dont like gallinari’s swag.”

    “that amare.. he can play.”

“when you play the knicks shouldn’t you be ready for pick n rolls?”

“amare, player of the game. he took over, bargs still looks sleepy with 35+. sorry, I guess I am a hater.”

“Wow, I just wish raptors had a 4th quarter player. Im done watchin amare shoot 100% in the fourth”

“Raps played hard on the home court of the one of the hottest teams in the league.
    Amare was unconscious. Respect.
The Amare vs Bargs duel was amazing.
Great atmosphere in the garden. That is basketball right there. My favorite game of the year even though we didn’t get the win.”

  • Mucha

    No doubt.

That was a disgusting era I hope is finally over.

I never did it and I don’t know any real Knick fans that did.

here is a poster who actually knew what he was talking about back in July:

    Big Poppa Smurf
Jul 10, 2010, 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm # Apologies for the double-post, but I’m re-posting this here because I want more people on the Ray Felton bandwagon with me!

Guys, before you let yourselves become too jaded that Ray Felton is our 2nd “big” free agent signing after two years of slashing payroll and our starting PG next year, consider this: in his first five seasons, Steve Nash’s career averages were only 9.1 points per game and 4.6 assists per game. If you stretch out that time frame to include all eight of Nash’s seasons before he hooked up with D’Antoni in Phoenix, even then Nash’s career averages were only 12.5 points per game and 6.1 assists per game. Both sets of Nash’s stats are trumped by Ray Felton’s career averages to date of 13.3 points per game and 6.5 assists per game, even though Felton has almost exclusively played in slow, half-court offenses. Nash’s career highs before joining D’Antoni were 17.9 points per game (in year 6) and 8.8 assists per game (in year 8), both of which occurred while he was playing Nellie-ball in Dallas; Felton’s highs to date are 14.4 points per game and 7.4 assists per game (both in year 3, before Larry Brown’s grind-it-out offense came to town and slowed up Felton the past two years).

My point is this; Felton is faster than Nash ever was and a better defender than Nash could ever be. Felton’s career numbers compare VERY favorably to Nash’s pre-D’Antoni numbers. Felton comes from a championship pedigree at UNC and is a tough, sound, athletic player. He doesn’t have Nash’s jumpshot (yet, anyways), but he’s a speedster who can run the fastbreak or slash his way into the paint, and I feel very strongly that he can run D’Antoni’s offense with great proficiency. Nash left Dallas to go play with Amar’e, Marion and Joe Johnson under D’Antoni in Phoenix and wound up having an MVP season while the offense put up video game numbers. Like Nash in 2004, Felton is going to have Amar’e, and he’s going to have athletic finishers in Anthony Randolph and Wilson Chandler along with a shooter in Gallinari. The potential explosiveness of the Knicks offense next season is off the charts right now.

So as bummed out as you might be right now, look at the numbers and other facts I’ve set out and don’t be surprised if Felton’s putting up 18 point, 11 assist games regularly next season while the Knicks’ offense kicks butt and up-and-down the court on its way to 45+ wins.

And I’ll add here that after next season, I think most people will be happy that we got Ray Felton instead of Tony Parker. Write it down

  • starksoakmase

Really happy this team found a way to tough out a win.

However, its troublesome that we can only trust 8 players against Toronto at home.

We have a really dynamic starting five, a pretty good 8 and are not very good the rest of the way down the bench.

anyway….good win, beat the Wiz and let’s see what this team is made of….

  • HaS

How is one ever “reading” that book? Unless you’re reading it multiple times, it’s a very short read.

  • Jaysizzle4603

I think we played pretty sloppy tonight, but Andrea Bargnani was just ON. Dude was hitting everything, and, once again, I feel like AR would have helped. Oh well.

I like how Gallo and Chandler both had good games for the first time in quite a while. 20 and 9 for Gallo, to go along with some nice drives. Chandler with 14 and filled up the stat sheet in other ways and did what he could defensively in a tough matchup for him.

Felton and STAT are killing it.

What I HATE is the short rotation. 7.5 today.

I guess Coach is gonna rest the starters if we get blown out these next few games lol.

All in all good game, let’s go take out the Wiz before s*** gets real.

  • Jayo

Felton plays too many minutes, but the level of play when he’s not in the game is extremly subpar.. We need a back up PG or a player who can takeover the game off the bench .. *cough* O.J Mayo *cough*

Nice exciting win.. Get the free W’s while we can, because the level of comp will soon rise..

Free AR.. Let the man eat… Or trade him for a 1st.. Do something.. Sheesh

  • Old Knick

They didnt hate that much! Are knicks beginning to get respect?

  • ds2488

  • New Yorker in Texas

We have a Superstar, good secondary players (felton, gallo, chandler), and great role players (turiaf and fields).
We need a 2nd ALL-STAR to be real contender. Not sure our secondary players can really grow into that role. If we wait until next year, and essentially replace Chandler with Melo- I think we will be a legit top 7 team in the league.

  • DatNewYorker

How many times that you hear an opponent have a career night against the Knicks under D’Antoni’s watch. I am amazed at the amount of fans that are on that Knicks high and think that we are a great team. We are a talented team with bad coaching. I see a lot of bad coaching decisions and unless D’Antoni makes some changes we will be on a losing streak just as easy as this winning streak. You keep hearing the warning about how tough the schedule will get and you see us struggle to beat a mediocre team. If D’Antoni continues to start Chandler at the 4, we will be down in the first half and not be able to recover against the good teams. We were down by 13 against a poor team. Some of us are in for a RUDE AWAKENING.

  • Old Knick

NO”D”antoni likes to simply outscore teams!

  • DatNewYorker

And those 43 minutes are against poor competition. Felton is going to get burnt out if this continues.

  • Ol Dirty 187

    Agreed love reading opposing blogs

  • Jeff C

So.., This is probably premature but whatever. for all those who have called donnie walsh’s tenure here an ‘epic failure’ on multiple occasions, every time one tiny little thing didn’t go our way; i think its time for a look back

3 years ago: highest paid roster in NBA. Worst team in league. Laughing stock of professional sports.

Today: Way under the cap, one of the youngest teams in the leauge, and winning (so far) at rate unmatched in a decade. And that’s after a terrible start while we looked for our chemistry.

We didn’t get lebron, but donnie walsh seems to have done exactly what he said he was going to try to do.

So now we can start talking about firing him because of the lack of a championship.

C’mon with the moderation Tommy lol, There wasn’t one remote curse in that post.

Great win, one of my favorites of the season. Knicks couldn’t hit a shot for 3 quarters, found a way to stick around, and then Amare and Felton took over down the stretch.

It certainly didn’t help that Bavetta either had money on the Raps or is just plain senile at this point. Either way, he was completely awful, on both ends, but particularly against the Knicks.

Bargnani was incredible. That was very Dirkesque of him. Unstoppable.

Great team win. STAT and Felton are playing at allstar and above levels, and Chandler, Fields, and Gallo are all contributing as good role players

  • Jeff C

i didnt mean to copy the word ‘reply’… you don’t need to reply.

    shhh.,..

reserves TD, Williams and Turiaf played a whopping 22,11 and 8 minutes.r

    Landry Fields still No 2 on the Rookie Ladder;

2 Landry Fields : New York Knicks

Fields continues to crash the boards. He’s topped double-digits in rebounding in five of the Knicks’ last seven games. It’s no coincidence the Knicks have won five straight. He’s just what the Knicks need — a smart, hustling player who’s always in the right place at the right time. He’s struggled from beyond the arc lately (4-for-15 in his last five games), but he still clings to the second rung despite John Wall’s return to the Wizards.

Great offensive performance. Amar’e had a great offensive game game and was a presence on the boards.

Gotta get the one on Friday before we play the better teams.

^Here is what I posted after the win FYI.

Hey, I’ll be ready to eat crow if the Knicks rise to the challenge against the better teams in the tough stretch ahead.

  • ds2488

lol. I was just thinking the same thing. Didn’t read the post though…way too long for me.

  • nyknicks19

    easy man c’mon…

on another note, my only problem with randolph not playing is when mozgov plays…i really don’t believe that mozgov brings anything more to the table than randolph…personally i think theres absolutely no reason that both of them don’t get spot minutes everynight they are sooooo tall…were gonna need that height at some point this year without a doubt….i would also like to return chandler to the bench without him there weve got no production coming onto the floor

  • New Yorker in Texas

How terrible was that 5th foul call on Amare. The guy jumped away from the hoop to try and bump into Amare!!

Most exciting game of the season by far. Amar’e Stoudemire’s definitely playing at an MVP level – and he’s playing for the Knicks! Un-be-lievable. And Raymond Felton is amazing – what a shot I still can’t believe it.

    ***Warning*** (Mike _’Antoni apologists beware)

However, Amar’e Stoudemire played 42 minutes. It’s almost suicidal in my opinion, the Knicks are screwed if he goes down. Timofey Mozgov and Anthony Randolph didn’t play a single minute tonight – they don’t necessarily deserve to play but we desperately need them.

And why did Mike _’Antoni put Wilson Chandler and Shawne Williams on Andrea Bargnani (almost the entire game) only to double him and create open shot opportunities for the Raptors?

Great win by the Knicks tonight though – Stoudemire and Felton were absolutely fantastic.

  • SilentJay

    LMFAO
I’d like to think that if we had a backup PG he’d come with Douglas, but I have my doubts.
Amare should’ve been given rest early in the 2nd and 3rd, but the coach somehow didn’t want to let AR come in (once again), not even Mozgov. This many minutes this early on will definitely play it’s roll later on the season.

  • ds2488

The rotation is simply unsustainable…I agree. But it’s impossible for me to complain when we’re winning like this, even if I have a feeling it will come back to bite us bad down the stretch.

  • harris

He really is an amazing story. The guy was a no-name backup at Stanford three years ago.

Everybody was talking about Gallo, Chandler or Randolph in a potential deal for Melo. It might be that their most appealing trade chip is Fields.
    LOL.

  • Knickosophy

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!? we just won 11/12 games. no team does that (no matter the competition) unless there a really frickin good team. And no COACH can coach this if he sucks. Please its gettin annoying now. get over your hate and just enjoy our team. Please!!

  • ds2488

agreed. I mean, he has to try and develop the bench some more, even if it costs us a couple of wins in the short term it will be worth it in the long term.

And the matchups with Bargnani were retarded imo. I would have loved to see him go with Gallo on him or bring AR in to try and slow him down, instead of forcing WIlson and Amare to “guard” him all game. They were both way overmatched…I think Gallo would have been better.

  • Brookdon

Yeah we only have won 11 of 12 under this coach. I hate this defense too but when you have been bad for so long, I’ll take any win.

  • Jeff C

Who cares if a player has a career night against you if you win???
Remember all those ridiculous games lebron had in his losing playoff series for 6 years? something like
40-10-10 over and over. It’s called making the opposing team’s best player beat you by himself. And that’s exactly what we did. Ask the celtics about it.

We had a SF on bargnani, we let him get his shots off, but he became their only point of attack, while we had a balanced attack, and were tied going into the 4th even though our 20 million dollar man was having a donut.

In other words; we won the basketball game.

  • harris

If they’re not going to play Moz, they have to play Randolph some. To not play either in a game against the Raptors in early December really is ridiculous.

  • Pinoy_NYK_Fan

hahahaha….got an exam tomorrow but my mind still on channel 716 MSG .thanks god NYK won the game.

  • Knickosophy

5 extra minutes in a comeback win isnt gon kill him. the man is in top physical shape. calm down

  • TJPry

Yea, that might have been the case – but thats sad too..
I went to Knicks/Lakers last year and I swear half the crowd was Lakers fans, I was shocked.

  • Jeff C

If we had put in anthony randolph or mozgov into the game to guard bargnani, maybe we would have held him to a more reasonable outing. But that isn’t the goal. Let him go off.

Amare should not be averaging more than 36 minutes. Games like this are not good for him, but they are going to happen. This game was close down to the wire. We had no choice.

we’ve been largely playing teams we should beat.

the short rotation WILL come back to bite us.

happy for the wins but the LT consequences are trouble.

im responding to nyknicks19,, why focus on my words?

  • HaS

Don’t bother man, no one’s “listening”, the Knicks are winning. It wouldn’t matter if we were only playing WNBA teams right now. Fans are drunk off of the wins right now, they could be suicidal by mid-January.

When your RUN and play FAST, yet only rely on 7 players to play the bulk of the minutes, there is absolutely no way those players can play defense with any level of consistency. Never mind that though, D’antoni for Coach of the Year; we’re 14-9.

  • Mucha

“agreed. I mean, he has to try and develop the bench some more, even if it costs us a couple of wins in the short term it will be worth it in the long term”

And we’ve only played mediocre teams recently? We’ll need him even more against Boston, Miami, OKC etc! Scary…

“And the matchups with Bargnani were retarded imo. I would have loved to see him go with Gallo on him or bring AR in to try and slow him down, instead of forcing WIlson and Amare to “guard” him all game”

Amar’e didn’t guard Bargnani until… midway through the 4th quarter (?) correct me if I’m wrong. MD should’ve put Turiaf or Stoudemire (size + strength) on him earlier to play man D and keep him out of the paint.

    Whatever…

  • Jeff C

    Attention EVERYONE.

In the 5 seasons (including this one) since amares knee surgery’s, he has missed a TOTAL of THREE games, not counting the eye injury, which has nothing to do with his physical durability. He is still young, in his best shape ever, and playing his best ball ever. He can handle big minutes when they are needed. That being said, he shouldn’t be playing this many minutes too often, but there are nights when its close till the end and your stars have to play.

Amare is one of the most physically durable big men in the league. His knees have been 100% perfect for 5 years. Much better than any other big man i can think of besides basically dwight howard.

  • Ftingue

My Knick names for Landry Fields…
Agua… I heard Terry Porter call Landry this when he was mic’d up for MSG. It makes since to me because Landry is smooth like water. Lol. But I don’t know if we could call him water, that might be taken, and plus Water sound pretty lame. H20 is also taken, by the one and only Knicks assistant GM. So Agua is a good start.
Laundry Fields… LOL Yes Laundry because he’s not afraid to do the dirty work around the basket, nah stretch he’s not afraid to do the dirty work around the whole basketball court. He’s everywhere, deflection, blocks, steals, dunks, Layups, REBOUNDS and OPEN THREE… Laundry gets it done.
Noel… LOL… This one and is fitting for the holidays. In Haiti (and other French speaking country’s) the name for Santa Claus is Pere Noel or Father Noel. So my other knick name for him is Landry NOEL Field, because that’s just what Fields is… a gift from above. Yes a gift from God. Knicks never get a lottery pick so we went and put all our eggs in one retarded basket, last summer. The infamous summer of 2010 just to get burnt, again! We traded Lamarcus Aldridge’s pick for Eddy Curry, Nana for Mcdice … etc. But one summer night… away in the Garden. The Almighty looked down and sent us Noel Fields.
The last knick name speaks for it’s self. Landry (Don’t ever…EVER!!! trade me) Fields…. Lol

  • fauci933

Yea 43 is too much for Amar’e and Felton. 38 and 39 in close games is acceptable, but this was a bit much for a game against the Raptors.

Again I would love to have tried Randolph in the game to put on Bargs, and I wish we could have like a break in the season to scrimmage against some other teams so we can experiment with him, but we’re on a 6 game win streak and have won 11 of 12. Granted most have been against subpar teams, but nonetheless 11 of 12 in the NBA, regardless of who’s playing, is impressive. We need a deeper bench though. Hopefully a backup PG and big man will extend the bench a bit so there can be more flexibility.

  • BiggieSmalls

how about that play call at the end of the game?

or was a play even called?

  • HaS

“That being said, he shouldn’t be playing this many minutes too often, but there are nights when its close till the end and your stars have to play.”

We’ll rest him against the Celtics and Magic.

  • Mucha

Problem is the Knicks started doubling Bargnani because Chandler/Williams couldn’t keep him out of the paint/contest his shots – he made the entire Raptors team better because the Knicks were giving them open shots (they played man-to-man D down the stretch though – if I remember correctly).

“This game was close down to the wire. We had no choice”

Of course Amar’e is going to play in the 4th quarter. But he played too many minutes in the 3rd quarter imo.

  • BiggieSmalls

Games like this are not good for him, but they are going to happen.

why dont you copy/past this for every game …save the typing.

  • Mucha

    Exactly.

And he’s not going to sit down the stretch regardless.

  • Rome1988

This guy is a clown. He tries to explain why we are a lucky in all our wins. Yet never mentions the difficulty of winning back to back games. Does not mention how hard it is to sweep an opposing team 3-0 nor mention that we fought through injuries.

Saying “Good win” covers his back though lol Make your mind up and stop being so lame. If you think it is not a valuable win than say it do not be a punk about it. Just so he will not look like a fool when he is wrong but be happy is he is right. We have to lose to make him happy. I am not assuming I am telling you.

    -_- clowns…

yea….let’s give up on our 21 year old with a world of talent because he hasn’t played much in the first 23 of his first season with the team….

    and Turiaf has been hurt…

  • JeffM729

One aspect of playing a short rotation that hasn’t been discussed is the reduced number of fouls that the Knicks can accumulate. You can’t play tough defense all game simply because you will get into foul trouble. Amare had 5 and Gallo, Chandler, and Turiaf all had 4.

If we had more of a rotation, guys like AR, Mozgov, and Walker could play hard D and not have to worry about staying in the game or pacing themselves for the last quarter.

Tonight we played 3 guys over 40 minutes. You might look at the box score and see Utah did the same thing. Miami had Bosh and LeBron at 39+ and Wade over 40. So it does happen in the NBA.

Wall missed tonight’s game and if he’s out, we could have an easy game. Melo also missed tonight, so we could have some more luck.

  • Jayo

The “3 pointer” issue hasn’t been an issue for about a month now.. Coach told guys to get aggressive.. I guess

  • starksoakmase

actually he said that D’Antoni was criticized for his short bench….there’s a difference….

  • Jayo

My point is play him or trade him.. I don’t see how one can argue that.. But hey feel free..

  • JeffM729

Got a Fields’ jersey on the Christmas list.

    NO TRADES FOR FIELDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • starksoakmase

and D’Antoni didn’t have dragic, hedo, childress, dudley and warrick on his bench….

  • ridiculous upside

I bet you did the ‘NOT joke’ in Borat voice.

  • starksoakmase

i know what your point is. Just because he isn’t ready now doesn’t mean he won’t become a good player….maybe even later this year…..

  • JeffM729

It’s been said that Randolph doesn’t “get” the offense and will get time when he does. Maybe this winning streak is a good thing for him. He will get time soon and should make fewer mistakes. He did look lost on the floor and that’s not good for a young player.

  • JeffM729

Leo Rautins, Andy’s father, is a Raptor broadcaster. I could find Clyde, so I listened to a foreign broadcast.

  • starksoakmase

Walker had his chance and did’t play hard d. AR and Moz just make too many mistakes. I have concerns about the rotation, but the team has to win these games with the hard schedule approaching…

  • moderatethis

Rudy Gay would have fit nice on this team.

  • Jahno

D’Antoni’s defensive matchups in this game are inexcusable. This starting Chandler at the 4 is killing us and we are surviving because Amare and Felton are playing out of this world. But Ray and Amare shouldn’t have to play so hard for so many minutes, because this team has enough talent that the Raptors shouldn’t push us like this.

  • starksoakmase

he got it when he was young though….Allan and Webber got it later in their career…

  • BiggieSmalls

    typical Grammar School level reply.

  • Mucha

So when Mozgov was playing he wasn’t making too many mistakes but now that he’s sitting he just makes too many mistakes????

Hahaha man stop making excuses for Mike _’Antoni what you just said is ridiculous (no disrespect got love for you man)

  • giantg

you should already be on your seventh plate of fried crow, grilled crow, burned crow…

the opposite of coulda shoulda woulda is can, shall and did. and that is where we are with a power forward you dissed and a pg you slept on and yeah a coach you consistently disparaged.

  • ridiculous upside

Think it’s called a pick and roll, chief.

  • BiggieSmalls

lack of cartilage is lack of cartilage..

it’s not like he was in the “growth years”//

If he had it at 14-18 years old that would be one thing.

  • Rome1988

    “err.. whats wrong with You??”

    I know :)

  • Mucha

He relies on his athleticism more than Webber and Houston – his style of play puts more pressure on his knees. I’m not necessarily saying that he’s going to be injuried – but playing him too many minutes is risky.

  • Rome1988

Anyways, I voted for Felton and Amare. Support our Knicks team. Come on Knicks FANS.

  • BiggieSmalls

i didnt see either a pick or a roll..

no matter the off balance three went in..

    pass the kool aid.

  • JustinCharles

If I remember correctly, it looked like they were going to try to run a pick and roll to Amare, whom was dominating the Raptors with 4 straight shots…That seemed to be working, the goal was clearly to get the ball to Amare with some sort of single coverage.

However, I believe Felton got tripped up on the pick and stumbled….when he recovered he knew there was only seconds left and just took a quick shot to get one off.

  • Rome1988

    What about the rookie?

  • giantg

no one needs to make excuses for D’Antoni…NY didn’t get LeBron, didn’t have any #1 picks, didn’t use up it’s cap space and is winning games.

Starting rookies, second round picks, playing guys no one heard of, players teams gave up on…

The need to constantly find a glass-half-empty analysis for your winning home team hollows your soul at some point?

But, hey if that is what being a fan means to you…

  • starksoakmase

Moz make less mistakes when compared to AR. That was the context of when I said he wasn’t making too many mistakes. However, he makes too many mistakes to be getting 20mpg…..

moz probably could have gotten some minutes tonight when Davis was in the game. he can’t play with Andrea..

  • fauci933

Same. Felton may not be on the same level as Rose and Rondo, but he deserves an all star vote as much as either of them at the moment.

I voted Amar’e and Felton (and Rondo, Granger, and Dwight..sort of random after Ray and Amar’e, but I didn’t care so much after them)

Oh and my write-in…Landry Fields haha.

  • Rome1988

    Lame.

  • starksoakmase

I really don’t know enough about it comment any further, but i would think the trainers would have something to say if the coach was putting our $100 mil investment at serious risk….

  • SilentJay

Any extra player that can come in to give Amare some resting time is welcome.
People ignore it because the team is winning (and everyone’s glad, of course, it’s a welcoming sight), but if Felton and Amare play 40+ minutes every game they will feel it later on.

  • Rome1988

Apparently to some ego maniacs to spin every thing to favor their opinion do not see the last play that way. They just assume everyone is 100% efficient and do not make mistakes.

    +10
By the way the game was freaking tied lol people act like were down by 2.

  • starksoakmase

yea….probably is a little risky….I really don’t know if he is at any more risk than anyone else because of his surgery…

  • starksoakmase

lol….our captain stepped up and hit the game winner…..the coach sucks….

  • eduardo

Or maybe they just started listening and executing what he was saying ?

  • Rome1988

    -1

Please stop trying… to you know who.

  • fauci933

The development of his mid-range jumper has helped him a bit in that area though. Amar’e's work ethic is off the charts, and I think if his athleticism were to suffer, he would work at building his game around other skills.

For now though, he’s killing it with his athleticism and his mid-range game, and doing it at an MVP level…so I’m pretty happy. 43 minutes is a bit much, he could’ve sat in the third a bit more, but if the news of us looking for another big man and backup point is true, the bench should be getting a bit deeper in the near future.

  • mikeyt

Looks like the Kings finally started playing Jason Thompson. 20 and 14 so far for him tonight.

I would have loved to try to steal him from sacramento someehow. he would be perfect next to Amare

  • Rome1988

    +1000

  • Mucha

“The need to constantly find a glass-half-empty analysis for your winning home team hollows your soul at some point?”

    Glass-half empty?

I always said Amar’e Stoudemire was a great signing and he’s playing at an MVP level. I said Raymond Felton was amazing. I said “Great win by the Knicks” tonight. And I gave Mike _’Antoni credit for making major adjustments offensively. But I care too much about the Knicks and Amar’e Stoudemire not to complain about his minutes. Should I keep my mouth shut because the Knicks are winning? This is how dictatorship starts.

  • Rome1988

The coach yells at Gallo when he shot a 3 when the game was on the line instead of feeding the ball to Amare.

Yet no one took notice and do not bring it up because it failed to favor their opinions.

  • Mucha

He’s doesn’t make enough mistakes to deserve a DNP against some freakin Dinosaurs – I think you can agree with this.

  • Mucha

I think everybody said it was a bad shot – with the exception of Jeff C – and it was quite easy to understand that Mike _’Antoni didn’t like the play.

  • Mucha

Rome your – 1′s are absolutely useless. At least explain why you disagree.

  • starksoakmase

    moz or ar??

moz could have played 10 min.

    I don’t know what’s up with ar.

the coach might just be goin with what works….

after a terrible decade, I’m happy to be finally winning a few games, but I’m very interested to see how we play starting Sunday…

  • Rome1988

lol Mike D has to monitor our minutes because we are resting our veterans for the playoffs…wait… we have sucked for a decade…yes that makes sense.

  • Rome1988

    Fire Mike D’Antoni.

  • Rome1988

    MD Smalls.

  • Mucha

    I was referring to Moz

  • Rome1988

“We need to win this game.”

    +1 by mucha ???

Yes that was a magnificent statement by yours truly lol

  • starksoakmase

The only person Moz can guard on that team is davis.

  • Rome1988

What you fail to see is that Mike D doesn’t draw up random 3′s.

  • Mucha

What the hell are you even trying to say?

Is that a reply to my post 12:09?

  • Mucha

I say +1 when I agree and nothing else needs to be said.

But you’re clearly disagreeing with somebody when you’re posting “-1″ so at least explain why you disagree.

  • Rome1988

What? Get this lame out of here man.

  • Rome1988

    +1 Giant

  • JeffM729

I just looked at the final box and Jason Thompson is listed as a +45. Never saw anything like that in 116-91 game.

  • quinten daily

respect to all the fans that went to the game, knicks needed every last clap and cheer you had to get this win. I was there it was great

  • Rome1988

I think it was kind of obvious that we needed to win this game.

  • ridiculous upside

Why resort to insight and reason?

Do a biggiesmalls and yell “FIRE DANTONI” in every possible instance. So much easier on the brain.

  • Rome1988

I give -1 because i disagree. Maybe state why you agree next time.

  • bkblessed1

    Thanks bro 1

  • Mucha

    Stop trolling.

  • traps9

    Well done.

  • Ol Dirty 187

No Melo cheers at the garden next weak!!!! Spread the word!!!

We are just getting our winning culture back, let’s cheer our own players not nuggets players!!!!! True Knicks fans stand up!!! NO MELO cheers!!!!!

  • Rome1988

Sounds like a broken record. Stop hating.

We both know I’m not that. Let us just leave it at that.

  • Rome1988

    +1 Starks

  • Mucha

“I say +1 when I agree AND NOTHING ELSE NEEDS TO BE SAID”

    Reading is fundamental.

Of course we needed to win this game – but we need Amar’e Stoudemire to stay healthy even more – the Knicks need to reduce his minutes to protect his body.

Now if you disagree with me so much at least tell me WHY shouldn’t the Knicks reduce Amar’e Stoudemire’s minutes (42, 39, 38, 41, 41, 54 – last 5 games) considering the fact that 1. he’s had microfracture surgery on both knees 2. we need him to stay healthy long term 3. we have 2 7-footers (Ok, AR is 6’11 to be exact) sitting on the bench.

  • Mucha

Hating? I don’t necessarily hate the coach – it’s not personnal – but I hate his coaching style or at least several aspects of his coaching style.

No disrespect but quite a few TKB vets have been annoyed by your attitude so maybe YOU should have a look at yourself in the mirror.

  • gianthinker

Amare looked absolutely sluggish all game until the 4th quarter when he put it into over drive! What a fun game to watch.

  • Rome1988

Really you are trying to hard and it is not amounting to much. Your explanations are as good as the dead rapper on the Knicks blog. That is not really saying much.

If you need help with your making your argument better just let me know. I always enjoy helping those in need. :)

    + points for my friends…
Reading is fundamental? Okay good for you…keep at it. lol

I enjoy reading things that are worth reading.

I would go in detail about microfracture surgery regrowth of the joint surface and severity of the damage done, high percentage rate of recovery and the Knicks medical staff, but that is pointless because it has been years.

Shut up about the minutes argument. lol We need to win games that is the bottom line.

  • Rome1988

Don’t get mad. You are responding, so don’t say “vets” and calling out others to help you out. You replied to me, they did not.

And don’t make it personal…have you forgotten what you said before or does that only apply to you when you are trying to make an argument?

    Seriously.

  • Old Knick

Vanilla gets alot of extra love and sympathy on this blog.

  • ImAGirLSoWhat

    Relentless, unstoppable.

  • http://WWW.REELTALKBLOG.COM @reeltalkSHAKES

really couldn’t have said it any better myself…

can’t lie Knicks got me feeling like a lil kid on Christmas morning..lol.

This is without a doubt the best team i’ve seen since ’99. The Garden was rocking last night like when my fav player growing up LJ hit that 4pt play…

and shoot, whens the last time the garden was chanting “MVP” for a KNICK??? LOL, usually it’s either for Kobe or Lebitch…

Great Job thus far, just have to keep it up, next week will be the real challenge and really show us where this team stands amongst the elite in the league.

As far as “TEAMS” Knicks don’t look to far behind the Lakers, Celtics, Dallas and the Spurs…

now I just think they need to work on this teams depth, whether it’s adding a vet big like a Tony Battie, or a backup pg like a Marcus Williams or a Mike James to help keep Amare and Felton healthy and fresh all season and into the playoffs…YEA I SAID IT PLAYOFFS…lol.

  • KnickFan4Life

Heading into Christmans with Knicks playing great ball and our best player getting MVP talk. When was the last time we could say that? Damn it feels good to be a Knick fan!!!

  • HaS

I’m a Laker fan, but not when they play my Knicks.

  • HaS

“the opposite of coulda shoulda woulda is can, shall and did. and that is where we are with a power forward you dissed and a pg you slept on and yeah a coach you consistently disparaged.”

I never “dissed” Amar’e, if anything I expect more from him than any of you do. I feel he’s capable of these type of games every night, he CAN, SHALL AND DID rebound the way he’s able to tonight and the last few games for that matter.

I’ve always said Felton was a solid point guard and I’ve already admitted he has been better offensively than I originally thought (I’m sure everyone here can agree with that), but he hasn’t been as good defensively as I thought he would be (that could be from all the minutes he has to play though).

As for the coach, I’m probably one of the only ones on TKB that didn’t call for his head weeks ago lol.

  • shivermetimbers

I took my daughter to a Knicks/Lakers game 3 years ago when she was about 5. Having watched too much Hannah Montana, I suppose, she started to cheer for the Lakers who were winning. I promptly recognized this as a teaching moment, telling her that you have to support your team – good times and bad. Glad to say that she is a Knicks fan like her dad.

On a different note. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but doesn’t Ronny Turiaf’s beard remind you of some ancient noble king? Someone like Nebuchadnezzar of Persia?

    http://www.danphyillaier.com/gallery3/Giii01.html

    I love Turiaf.

  • JustinCharles

And Gentry is shortening the Suns rotation because the 10-man rotation is failing.

  • TiPsY125

I only check the replies to the postgame report just to see this post with the quotes from the opponents blog. This is awesome man thanks!
