Poll: Should Jeffries Play?

by Tommy Dee on April 13th, 2011 at 2:07 pm

The Knicks are certainly shy of defensive players, so you’d think that Jeffries, Turiaf, or both, would be summoned from off the pine to help defend. Jeffries has been much better of late and when he plays well, from a rotation and help-defensive perspective, the Knicks usually do as well.

Would You Give Jeffries Minutes Against the Celtics?

Jeffries’ length has been used in the past against Rondo. As long as he can keep Rondo in front of him, I definitely see us trying to do that look 10-15 minutes a game in the playoffs.

Being that we have no true center, I would run a three headed monster (LOL) of Turiaf/Jeffries/Williams. In the playoffs though, I expect to see alot of Amare at the 5 and Shawne at the 4.

So, i guess we are assuming Sheldon won’t play in the playoffs?

i think it all depends on matchups. Sheldon should definitely get some time if shaq plays.

i wouldn’t put jarred on shaq.

I think jarred has been playing pretty well during the winning streak. He has even contributed a basket or two. I think turiaf will step it up in the postseason. we need him to come in with 15 energetic minutes a game.

Starters will be playing 40+, don’t know how he gets that time.

Depends…will his parents be in attendance?

Fair enough Brookdon, I still think its a good look we can throw out there to slow down Rondo in the half-court set. And we don’t really have a “starting” center that plays 40+ minutes.

MD will def give Stat periods of time at center.

10-12 mins tops, unless he’s rolling (that would probably be a sign of the apocalypse though).

Shelden played himself out of _’antoni’s rotation again?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Carter struggles to find minutes once the playoffs start.

If he doesnt shoot, except obvious/uncontested layins I think JJ should get a chance to disrupt any of the big 4s offensive rythmn. this guy has survived in the league for this long because of his versatility.

    absolutely NO shooting though!

I think it should depend on the night. Turiaf will probably get the start, and Sheldon or Jeffries should get most of the minutes backing him up. I think it really depends on the matchup. Sheldon has looked good against some players, and bad against others. I think Jeffries matches up better with Garnett, because Sheldon seems to have trouble getting out on the perimeter. If you leave Garnett open, he will knock down the shot almost every time. Jeffries also makes the zone defense work, and he has had a lot of success defending Rondo. If Shaq plays though and Turiaf is in foul trouble, we might need Sheldon’s interior defense and rebounding. I don’t think we need to have a set rotation. If Douglas or Billups is struggling, Carter should get a lot of minutes. If Fields is struggling, Walker will get more playing time. If Shaq is playing Turiaf and Sheldon should see the court a lot. If Boston goes small, Jeffries and Shawne will get more minutes with STAT at C.

I think we has done well against Rondo in the past and I think the Knicks will only do as well as the defense they play to keep Rondo from breaking them down.

Every team needs that defensive minded guy that does all the work no one else wants (let’s call them “intangibles”). The difference between us and the better teams in the league is that those types of players are also able to score when chance is given, and JJ’s not that guy. However, players like him or Turiaf shouldn’t be sitting down all game long, specially when the coach doesn’t really focus on a little something called defense and those guys do. Give them 10-15 to see how they perform. A team’s never gonna miss a defensive presence, specially in the paint.

I’d say No way in hell he should get minutes, but I’m a little biased. I’d rather see us make sure that STAT stays at the 4 and plays at the 5 for no more than 8-10 minutes, leaving the rest of those minutes to go to Shelden and Ronny. I know it won’t happen, Shelden can barely get minutes anymore now even though he’s been nothing but solid.

I wonder why that is….Stupid coach.

Shelden doesn’t play against mobile centers, because he can’t.

knicks need every big they have even if their bigs are small…

10-15 mins a game, I think Turiaf should start though.

No way. Give all his minutes to Derrick Brown. He plays way taller than JJ.

Jared Jeffries deserves minutes…..He’s our tallest player at 6’11 on a team with no height. JJ may be not be able to score but he can def defend all five positions on the floor and does all the little things no one else whats to do. His value doesnt show up in the stat book but he is a glue guy u must have in order to win in the playoffs….

8 minutes a game, as Stat’s backup only. Turiaf and Sheldon split the 5 spot. And anyone who thinks he is a good matchup on Rondo can you please pass me what you’ve been smoking.

    Another meaningless and pointless comment.

    Thanks for contributing.

JJ and Shawne can’t play against any centers.

Sadly we have no choice. Lets hope he draws charges and rebounds. If he shoots
    send him to China!

    10 mins tops.. Barring Injury

Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaringly!!! JJ’s biggest assets are his intangibles like tipping rebounds, playing good zone “D”, ability to make opposing PG’s uncomfortable with his length. But against the C’s we need tangibles, rebounding, “solid D” and scoring when left wide open.

If we have to play JJ major minutes we will lose he is a very bad player so while he can give maybe a few minutes he will not be a factor for us to beat them ,Douglas and Carter can get after Rondo,JJ can’t make a layup he’s terrible,we need smart play from a S.Williams who can give some points. This offseason we have to sign DeAndre Jordan he is the answer for us.

He can for sure be used to gaurd rondo. I hope MD doesnt tighten up his rotation too much we are gonna need guys like Walker, Carter and Shelden
