Who is Part of the Solution?

by Tommy Dee on April 27th, 2011 at 2:54 pm

Anthony Carter: C+

You love what Carter brings and what he is. He made a long sustaining NBA career out of very little athleticism and oodles of savvy. He was a veteran in his rookie season. That said, what is Carter’s role on this team moving forward? He made just 1.3 million dollars this year and can be signed for a similar amount next season, but if the Knicks decide to keep Chauncey Billups and Toney Douglas, do they invest money in Carter’s veteran presence (and legs) at the expense of possibly drafting at the PG position? Hard to say. You need veterans in the playoffs, but you also need talent. Carter may be a great locker room guy who can play at a slow pace and control the offense, but is he producing enough per minute? Can he play an entire 82 game season plus? All questions the Knicks have to answer.

Is Anthony Carter Part of the Solution?

I’d take AC as the Knicks back up point next year no doubt.

    Solution. 15 mins a game

he’s a solid back up, def yes

Definitely. He and Chauncey and a little Douglas can handle the PG next year. Great defense and hustle. Controls the pace very well

    BREAKING NEWS:

NY KNICKS PICK UP CHAUNCEY BILLUPS 2011-12 OPTION!!

nothing too surprising here, glad the move was made though, just waiting for the announcement on donnie’s extension…

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD

billups most likely gets moved at the deadline, don’t be suprised if it’s back to denver for some old guys

AC was a pleasant surprise this year.

but he is 36 and is past the point of being a solid day-in day-out backup PG.

Since Billups has been retained, we need a 20 mpg PG who can start if necessary.

Toney should only play the point in an emergency next year….

BTW, was Billups’ option picked up or did they make a new deal?

  • Anonymous

that would be a disaster. we need to make upgrades……

Great guy to have as a 3rd PG, especially with TD being more of a combo than a true point.

If there are injuries he’s a better option than a rookie or D-league call up to steer a playoff team on an interim basis.

Like Herb Williams, I could see AC parlay a late career stint with the Knicks into a future assistant coaching opportunity with the team.

If we can’t rely on Douglas as the backup point, we need to find one that can play 20 mpg. Carter wouldn’t be able to do that for the whole season so I voted no.

Douglas should be strictly a SG
Draft a good PG to be behind Chauncey and AC to learn from them.

Why are we still including toney Douglas in the point guard conversation??

Didn’t he do enough to make his position on this team clear ??

At this point is Douglas really a combo ?

I’ve got him in the Terry , microwave category

Yikes! How many b-balls do you think we have ont he court at one time?

AC isn’t fancy but the dude plays hard and he’s tenacious. He was the only one who got tired of Rondo playing AND1 out there against us and he D’d him upfron before the halfcourt line.

We need hardnose ball players not softees that like to shoot the 3 only.

With a name like yours , you should know about this already!

Yep and a smart coach would be telling TD that he needs to work on his game to be a 2 at best. TD is about getting TD off period.

Yes. From the first game he played with us against the Heat I really liked him and I feel D’antoni messed up by not using him at times and same in the playoffs except game 4 obvoiusly.

Carter isn’t gonna win the MVP or 6th man, but he’s a pesky defender and makes things diffiuclt and he’s a decent scorer and passer. I really liked him since that first game against the Heat

Tommy. Really. How many times do I have to say it?

    Toney Douglas is a 2. Game, set, match. He’s a 2.

  • Anonymous

i would gladly keep AC. he brings that veteran toughness that this team needs.i can see him being a 2nd/3rd string backup pg. he is the reason why we had the comeback in game 4 to keep it close at the end.

Unless you can swing a trade for Luke Ridnour to be the speedball heir apparent, Carter should be brought back. The end.

The Knicks need big big big. You have to assume that TD will improve and Billups will play half the season. Bring on Carter and the position should be salvagable. Its more important to try and draft bigs. Look at all the teams that are advancing in the playoffs, they have at least 2 bigs on their roster that can bang down low. The Knicks have zilch and other than Gasol, who they probably can’t afford, there is not much in the way of bigs in the free agent market. Unfortunately, not too many bigs in the draft either. Wish they had kept the Moz man.

HE IS 36 YEARS OLD. He played well in spurts this season. Other times he kind of floated out there. Not hurting the team, but not doing anything positive.

I don’t think you can count on him for 20 mpg for a whole season. And what if Chaunvey gets hurt?

  • Anonymous

Definitely YES! He is a perfect 3rd string PG. He he understands his role, he can step in and play well in a pinch, he plays good defense, he can knock down shots, and he provides great veteran leadership. Its incredible to me that Mason Jr. was playing ahead of him in the playoffs, when Carter was the only PG we had that wasn’t in a suit. Also, why does he need to play 82 games in a season? He is a third string PG.

  • JustKnowz

Hells yeah! AC all 82 games.

I wouldnt say AC is part of the solution, Ill say a point guard who can get other people involved i the offense, hit his shots, and at least tries to play defense IS a part of the solution.

i like his style and i liked watching him run the offense more than td but anthony carter is not a difference maker

I would keep Carter around as a fourth guard, cut Rautins.

I said he should be kept but I would let him go if Rautins shows some improvement. Lots of guys make strides from their first year to the second. So let’s see what happens in camp.
