Who is Part of the Solution?

Derrick Brown: INC

Those of you who follow the site know my feelings on Derrick Brown. He’s very athletic and seems to have a pretty strong defensive acumen. Players out of Xavier always seem to and yes I apologize for the generalization.

Brown doesn’t have a particular position and I think, ideally, the Knicks would like to see him develop more range on his jump shot so they can sneak him some minutes at the 4 position in this system. But I think he can really be a solid, two-way transition forward for the Knicks and a player that, at a good salary rate (aka NBA dollar cost average) he can provide some value and be developed into a rotation player or a trade asset.

It’s hard to say if they get that chance because they have to decided if they are going to offer him a contract. There has been talk of Brown returning to the Bobcats, where he saw much more playing time. Right now, he isn’t an NBA rotation player for a good, sound playoff team, but he has the stat sheet-filling ability to be one at a good cost in my opinion. If I’m Melo or Amar’e I lobby to bring Brown back.

Is Derrick Part of the Solution?

I don’t think he will ever play enough to be considered “part of the solution” or not but for his price, he may as well be kept considering his physical tools and age.

I’m gonna say no. I still think he has potential, but I was kind of disappointed with his play. His defense was worse than I was expecting. He can’t keep up with anyone on the perimeter, and he isn’t big enough to be a real defensive presence inside. He didn’t really rebound well either. He looks like a slasher to me, and not a shooter. Because of that, I don’t see him re-signing here because I don’t think he would get playing time. He looks like a very poor mans Wilson Chandler, without the outside shooting. If he is willing to re-sign, I would keep him because I think he has the tools to develop into a good player. But I think he would prefer to return to Charlotte, where he could probably gets more playing time and where he fits the system better.

Brown is a scrub that shouldn’t have been signed for a team in desperate need of size. Makes no sense.

Honestly he did nothing to show me he is a rotation player. He cant shoot, he missed free throws but he sure could dunk. We don’t have time to develop, we need players like Fields, who came in ready to contribute.

that dunk!!! how can you not be part of the solution with that dunk

I think waiving Brewer in favor of Brown was a good move.

We passed on a disappointing lottery guy that wanted a long term deal for a young guy with more upside.

even if to just give brown a look, it was a good move. I like what I saw in limited time….

Why not bring him back? Heaven forbid they actually invest in a young player with upside for a change.

if he works hard this off season why not but other than that he’s no better than balkman actually balkman is a better defender

With Fields, Douglas, Walker and Mason all struggling at different points the 2nd half of the season (especially in the playoffs), I think Corey Brewer could have helped us. He was expiring and not that expensive. Derrick Brown on the other hand couldn’t get any minutes over Shawne and Jeffries.

all Brewer would have done is add another guard that would have struggled at points…….

brown was brought in for evaluation (upside factor). Shawne and JJ were both already familiar with the system…….

Im going to have to go with what should have been the 3rd choice.

    I DON’T KNOW

The dope never played him enough for me to get a concrete opinion on him.

We do need low priced talent with an upside. Sounds like a gig for Derrick Brown.

I voted no and let me explain why. He’s not a big enough impact player to be part of the solution. That being said, I’d love to see him stick around because he’s a monster athlete and could develop into something nicely. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if he went elsewhere for more playing time.

If we don’t keep Shawne and Bill Walker both, then he might get some more playing time.
Brown does play defense though, and we need that.

Derrick Brown is not part of the problem but he definitely aint part of the Solution.

Im sorry but he sucks. The more PT he gets the more youll see the glaring weaknesses in his game. The bobcats waived him for a reason.

I mean it wouldnt hurt to have him as a 12th man.

So balkman at 1.6 mil is too expensive but brown at 800k is cheap ?

I was shocked at the overwhelming negative response in the NY Daily News poll about Brown. The majority of Knicks fans wanted to dump him.

He’s cheap, young, and seems to have ability. It wouldn’t hurt to hold onto him.

they did a great job in games 1 and 2.

I don’t know if you noticed, but our problem against the Celtics was that we couldn’t score. The D was better than the O if you look at the series as a whole…….

Brown is much better than Balkman.

right.. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce wide open on the wing and Rondo unmoletsted to the hoop wasnt an issue at all.
