Who’s Part of the Solution?

As part of doing the end of the season grades, I’m including a poll that asks “do you think player X” is part of the solution, meaning should he be on the roster next season. I’ll be going through the roster over the next week or so giving my thoughts on the individual’s performance because I think each player deserves their own post.

Renaldo Balkman- INC

We didn’t get the chance to see much of Balkman in his second stint with the Knicks, but what I noticed is a player who has benefited from International play as he was a member of team Puerto Rico in the World’s Championships.  We remember Balkman as a hustle player and some of that ability and skill has been lost with age and lack of use. His motor certainly has shifted from 6 cylinders to 4 in my opinion. He’s a “defensive specialist” but he’s not someone who’s a great individual defender. He’s not a supreme athlete or rebounder for his size. And, of course, he’s limited offensively. To me, the biggest issue with Balkman is his salary, as he’s due over 3.2 million dollars over the next two seasons. A steep price tag for a player who doesn’t suit up.

    Seriously, he did not play at all with us besides a few garbage time appearances. Unless they keep him on as a hair specialist with Turiaf

    Defensive specialist = bad player

    Players known for their defense. like Bruce Bowen, were able to contribute on both ends of the floor. If you have Melo and Amare on the floor, the last thing you need are players that can be left unguarded.

    If he is bought out the amount of the buyout counts against the cap

    I think this “part Of the solution” series has to start at the top.. Start at Donnie or Dolan if you want to waste time and pump up donnie’ Q rating..

    The interesting conversation is the “coach” part of the solution?

    If the poll was worded like that it would likely be unanimously NO.

    I wish we would have seen more of him..
    Could he have been Put on the wing to shadow pierce or Allen? Can he guard a bak court player ??

    Not sure where this evaluation that he has lost 2 cylinders comes from.

    Interesting part re: his experience in the worlds

    its still a mystery on how in the hell did denver give him that kind of contract when even they hardly played him!!!!!!!

    he really sucked at the world championships as he has no kind of game — he is only useful on fastbreaks and some defense

    we couldve used 6 hard fouls from him in the playoffs but dantonis not that kind of coach!

    When Balkman played against MIA he looked clueless, one game sample size isn’t enough to judge a guy, but he is trash & this is a dumb poll, so I didn’t vote.

    The day you see Balman in my mock line-ups is the day D’Antoni fires is family & friends he calls assistants & hires some actual coaching help.

    lol come on… I like Balkman, but he was behind Jared Jeffries and Derrick Brown on the depth chart, and both those guys couldn’t get playing time on other teams. That says all you need to know. That and the fact that he makes under 2 million, and the Nuggets desperately wanted to get rid of him.

    LOL So True! Talking about Balkman is like deciding if a window on the Titiantic should be cleaned.

    Until the D’Antoni brothers and rest of coaching stuff go under, we are not going to be near but far from any ring!
