Recap: Bucks 100 Knicks 86

by Tommy Dee on January 20th, 2012 at 10:01 pm

BOX SCORE

If there’s rock bottom…we’re getting very close.

Jennings killed them. We get that. The guard play was atrocious and Amar’e was invisible after the 2nd quarter. The bench gives them nothing. If you listened to the great Bernard King and Walt Frasier they told you everything. I can’t say any more than they can.

6-9. 3-5 at the Garden.

There is zero pride. There is zero heart.

Nothing.

The Knicks right now are terrible and the die hard fans are now entering the building because the fans who thought they were going to be good are selling really cheap.

It’s a mess.

What would I do?

Once I make sure my son’s results are okay tomorrow you will hear from me LOUDLY.

I promise.

  • JayCaleb

VERY CLOSE, Tommy Dee you’re a joke, give it up, we are worse than rock bottom, more like they beat us with rocks.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4NQ6PI4IFNLI5CY6LHLZQG26TY Paul

This team is AT ROCK BOTTOM, that’s it.. we’re one of the worst teams in the NBA with the 8th highest payroll. I’ve never been more embarrassed to be a Knicks fan, and that includes the Isiah Thomas days..

    It’s THAT bad.

  • http://twitter.com/SlingyLovesMMA Sam

If Coach D isn’t fired off of this, the front office has lost all credibility… he has lost the team, no question about it.

  • thatsagoodpoint

There’s a 3-word solution that will a least give us a chance. Anyone want to guess those 3 words?

  • Brookdon

    I miss Chauncey.

Unless Baron can give us Chauncey production, we are screwed. Chandler trade right now hurts us more than Melo trade. Lack of consistency in the backcourt hurts.

  • thatsagoodpoint

Yep. That move should have been made a week ago.

  • FeltOnAmarE

A LOSS CLOSER TO D’ANTONI’S DISMISSAL WOOOOOOT

  • Jayo_55

The worst part about all this losing, is knowing NOTHING will change, personnel wise or philosophy wise.

As a fan it’s like, whats the point ? we love this team, but the feeling doesn’t seem mutual.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DWUMS75N6BQHL54II5RXGWDGPA Radio

Trade Melo for D-12 straight up. D-12, STAT, Chandler, Shump and Davis. Next year we trade Chandler for a SF who can shoot

  • JayCaleb

    Jeff Van Gundy?

  • JayCaleb

    Phil Jackson PLEASE?

  • Brookdon

Today isn’t rockbottom, our loss tomorrow will be. After which our win streak starts.

    Knicks rule of six.

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Pretty much, yeah.

  • http://twitter.com/SlingyLovesMMA Sam

    You misspelled the word YEAR.

  • http://twitter.com/SlingyLovesMMA Sam

    Isiah Thomas RETURNS?!?!?!?!?!

  • http://twitter.com/TrueHorrorNet Jason S.

So did anyone see any “coaching” in that game? Yeah me either, This guy has got to go, my heart cant take this, that guys stupid pringles ass face is giving me an ulcer too!

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Dang auto correct brah

  • BlueAndOrange7

Its a shame but WE SUCK. Its going to be a long season.

  • http://www.knicksmag.com/ Irvin

    Trade Carmelo Anthony?

  • Jayo_55

    TommyDeeTKB
@alanhahn stick to the basics bro. Shumpert switching kills them.

    —–
Never seen him say one bad word about the coach or Douglas but he’s quick to attack the rook. Its pathetic. Hey hows about the coach stop forcing the switches Tom.

  • OLD KNICK

Awaiting comments from coach NO”D”ANTINI tonight.
    What will he say tonight???

  • JayCaleb

as bad as it was under Thomas…to me it’s worse right now, just the fact that we have “stars” now makes it worse.

  • SheSaidSpikeWho

We’re gonna score 40 against miami on the 27th. I live in south florida so it’s gonna be the equivalent of hell on earth for a die-hard Knicks fan.

  • thatsagoodpoint

    That’s not it

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Warm…

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Warmer…

  • knick4life

I know who Tommy is going to blame tomorrow: us, because we don’t give D’Antoni the solutions he’s paid to come up with.

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Cold…

  • JayCaleb

    Sign Stephon Marbury?

  • thatsagoodpoint

We have, many times over. He simply refuses to implement them.

  • knick4life

    Resurrect Red Auerbach?

  • thatsagoodpoint

From a coaching standpoint yes. What I wouldn’t give for a Larry Brown with this roster.

  • DylanNYK

No clue what its about. It feels like he wants Shumpert to fail just so he can be right about criticizing the pick. No clue how anybody could even attempt to blame Shumpert for the constant switching, when its clearly part of the game plan.

  • nyknickerbocker

    Lord Jesus Christ

  • Jayo_55

We will wake up to a “gotta wait for Barron/JR/Kmart before we judge D’Antoni” Post

    COUNT ON THAT

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Cold…Ted Williams frozen head cold.

  • Guest

Good luck Tommy. Prayers to you & your family

  • Mucha7

The Knicks have to make a change ASAP.

It’s obvious the two Antonis cannot coexist so someone has to go.

    Two scenarios:

    A. Hire a new head coach and coaching staff or give Mike Woodson a chance (my preference obviously).

    B. Trade Carmelo Anthony for an elite point guard like Rajon Rondo or Deron Williams.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BJTD7K36QTWRAPU7MHUKAWE3YE NoVaCaInE

This is rock bottom. The Knicks are playing with ZERO confidence & ZERO passion. For the 2nd straight game they could not score more than 90 pts! When the Knicks struggle offensively it carries over to the other side of the floor. This is a poorly coached team. Everyone seems lost on both ends and there is a lack of discipline on both ends. Shumpert and Fields don’t even look to score anymore and there is no contribution off the bench.

    FIRE D’Antoni already!!!

  • http://twitter.com/mjamal97 M. Jamal Green

Now we just lost to one of the lowest scoring teams in the NBA..We just lost to a team that was 0 – 8 on the road. We let Jennings take a isht on the Garden Floor.

And now we have to face Denver…The 2nd highest scoring team in the NBA….they are #1 in Team Assists in the NBA….

If we can’t beat the Bucks…we have answers for DENVER?

Amare’s my man but he’s quit on the team. Melo just jacks up more shots…Shumpert is being asked to learn being an NBA PG on the fly..but he’s just a rook so tonight it showed.

But tonight..I finally heard a full throated Fire D’antoni chant. The end is near.

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Cold..

  • Jax13

really…some of you are saying getting chandler is the problem? c’mon now…he is the only one playing with heart along with the rookies

  • http://www.knicksmag.com/ Irvin

    STRIKE 1:

the Knicks had a chance with the pre-Melo team: they were young, hungry and improving. There were assets, draft picks, cap space and players to improve the team. Dolan immediately destroyed Walsh’s work by forcing the incredibly stupid Melo Trade.

    STRIKE 2:

The Knicks could have diminished the damage done by The Trade by using the Amnesty on Amare, instead of Billups. They would have cap space to make a run at a top free agent next year. They used it on Billups and now they are stuck with a clearly hurt (physically and emotionally) Amare.

    STRIKE 3:

The now have a last chance to right the sinking ship by trading Carmelo for a couple of solid players. Yes, the Knicks will NEVER get anything even close to what they paid for him, but they still have time to do something with him.

If they don’t, they strike out and will suffer for the next few years. The Nets will get better and will dominate the city much like the Lakers have dominated the Clipper’s in LA for many years (it seems it will be finally over in LA, but that’s a different story).

    TRADE MELO!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/SlingyLovesMMA Sam

Obviously…. just reminding everyone that our prior coach was worse… but the ONLY possible selection that would be a downgrade. Irony is missed on the angry… understandable.

  • knickbased

Bottom line is this team sucks..I dont even know what to say anymore

  • STICKAHDYNAMITE

as i said, next year, resign felton and wilson chandler at ALL costs. and be sure the coach is different.

  • STICKAHDYNAMITE

oh and hope you guys saw amare’s face on the bench. im seeing the stephon marbury face….next is writing on his sneakers…

  • knickbased

Love how Tommy constantly criticizes Iman on twitter but defends TD who hasnt done one positive thing all season

  • Jayo_55

I’m not a JJ fan, but I never pray for him to miss or anything. Just feels like he has an agenda.

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Dear lord

  • http://twitter.com/SlingyLovesMMA Sam

No blame for the clueless coach?

  • http://NYJetsFan.com/ Mr. Smashington

Trade Melo? Seriously? you guys and hilarious.

  • Jax13

antoni reminds me of rex……more like a fan watching the game n forgetting they are head coaches……

…..do not even know what to say anymore

  • Sandro Guedes

    Do both!

  • thatsagoodpoint

Agreed, this coach has GOT to go.

  • knick4life

TD looks likes he playing JV ball for the first time.

  • http://www.knicksmag.com/ Irvin

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m SUPER-DUPER-F*CKING EXCITED about tomorrow’s game. Can you imagine The Garden when Gallo scores his fourth basket to give Denver a 34-14 lead after just one quarter????

    That’s what I call ENTERTAINMENT!

  • Jayo_55

    @Mucha

would love Rondo on this team, but it’s not happenin. But I’ll gladly read your suggestions until something does change.

  • Sandro Guedes

    Fire Mike D’Antoni. Easy.

  • http://twitter.com/RexRyansGut ReXXL

Fix this unbalanced losing machine & send Amare & Laundrybag for 2 months of Deron Williams w/ extension & a 2nd rounder.

And so it seems, only in dreams…

  • Jax13

bottom line….when someone does not do what they are paid to do = loss of job

    antoni = loss of job

  • OLD KNICK

I think it is safe to say this team is a psychological mess.

No need to stay here if no blog highlights from brookdon coming…

    Good night all!

  • thatsagoodpoint

Not lost, Sammy. Just stickin with my warm/cold game. I love that game.

  • VerysilentJay

”If there’s rock bottom…we’re getting very close.”

Really? If we look back to see who’s beat us, the manner in which the team’s lost -no will, no honor-, and the passion they’re leaving on the court, rock bottom’s already here.

    And it’s here to stay.

  • http://NYJetsFan.com/ Mr. Smashington

At this point I would expect a full blown imploding.

  • The Glider

But Tommy, I live in Philly and I didn’t hear what Bernard and Clyde had to say … AND I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY SAID.

    WHAT DID THEY SAY?

  • http://www.knicksmag.com/ Irvin

I’m assuming he gets fired this weekend :-)

  • http://twitter.com/TrueHorrorNet Jason S.

    SheSaidSpike same here…ugh.

  • thatsagoodpoint

Well yeah He would be a help

  • WAGSY

    Pat Cummings called

    hes available

  • Mr. Bloop33

    Jeff Van Gundy.

    Gimme my T-shirt homie.

  • DylanNYK

Definitely A imo. I think this frontline deserves a chance with a real coach, and a healthy Baron Davis. We gave the coach a chance to adjust the offense according to the roster he was given, and he failed. It was clear from the beginning that this wasn’t a D’Antoni team. We have plenty of talent on this roster imo. We just need a coach that can put it all together.

  • WAGSY

    Starbury
    John Starks
    Melo
    Ken the Animal
    Curry

  • Sandro Guedes

We need scoring and you want Rondo?

    Deron Williams is the answer.

  • http://NYJetsFan.com/ Mr. Smashington

Who’s gonna take Stat’s contract? No one will.

  • Mr. Bloop33

    Fart noise

  • WAGSY

oh man would love to be in that locker room

    somebuddy role me a blunt

  • Mr. Bloop33

Time to build a bench. Make some China calls. We will be very busy before and by te deadline.

  • JacesAces

    Allen Ezail Iverson

  • Mucha7

thanks! Why do you think it’s not happening? Both teams need to make changes…

  • DylanNYK

Maybe if we keep on sucking, teams will start playing down to our level and we can finally win some games!

  • WAGSY

    best Wishes Tommy

  • nyknickerbocker

I got it… Resume The Lockout

  • knick4life

I really don’t think Amare’s quit. He really looks physically limited to me. Simple rebounds he could be grabbing he’s not because he has no lift. I don’t know if its his knees or his back or if he put on too much muscle mass and that’s thrown off his mechanics, but all of his movements look slower than they used to be, as if he aged five years this offseason.

  • thatsagoodpoint

    That’s a winner right there..

  • Mucha7

I agree, Chandler has been our most consistent player all season, it’s not even close.

  • nyknickerbocker

    This would make me happy

  • WAGSY

    Melo trade value spiralling……

  • http://twitter.com/hungastryke Kwansah Madani

This succintly sums up the problem with the Knicks offense this year.

    http://es.pn/wnosbO

  • VerysilentJay

You’d rather let Melo go than Amare?
I still think that under a good coach those two can coexist, so I’m not on the ”trade them” wagon just yet. But if I were to choose who to trade, I’d let Amare go. The return won’t be as good on any of those trades, so I’d rather let go the most damaging contract. Amare seems out of it. Lacks heart, leadership, passion, will, honor. If I had to choose, shades would be the one to go.

But above and beyond, you cut the coach before anything else. That’s the first step. If we still don’t see changes after a considerable amount of time, then we can talk about trades.
We do have to face the reality, though: this team would be lucky to get to the second round of the playoffs (because playing like this they won’t even get there).

  • OLD KNICK

Harrington Leads Nuggets Over Wizards 108-104

WASHINGTON (AP) — Al Harrington scored a season-high 29 points, and Danilo Gallinari and Ty Lawson each had 21 to lead the Denver Nuggets over the Washington Wizards 108-104 on Friday night.

    http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2012/01/20/sports/basketball/AP-BKN-Nuggets-Wizards.html?_r=2&partner=rss&emc=rss

  • WAGSY

Look if Melo was a bigtime playa then this team would have at least a few more wins
Lebron carried that whole team in Cleveland.

  • datnewyorker

Seeing all the switching on Defense had me switch from MSG to my XBOX. I don’t know how you guys could possibly watch that entire game. I made the switch at the beginning of the 3rd. I can’t watch poor defense. they made it easy for Jennings to look like a superstar when you switch and have Chandler guard him. One more game closer to seeing D’Antoni fire is the only positive.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KQOPEX3SQPI5BTT43Q2SYKE5Q nytosftransplant

I said it before, Melo is a team killer. And Amare was a gigantic physical risk. I still don’t get the overvalue of Chandler. Can’t play without guards.
But hey, keep telling everyone what a teal Shumpert was at 17. Please.
This is the most unathletic team in the NBA. Hurts the eyes.

  • Jayo_55

Just because we play in the same division really. Just doesn’t feel like something boston would do. You never know I guess.

What would your trade be exactly, remember, Shump probably has to go too. (not saying he has to be in your mock)

  • http://NYJetsFan.com/ Mr. Smashington

FROM ANOTHER BLOG: “Melo is a ballstopper. So is Kobe. What’s the difference between them? Kobe isn’t surrounded by DLeaguers, and the Knicks have no discernible offense. Compound that with the lack of shooters, depth and spacing. Those extenuating circumstances partially excuse Melo.

Melo is the only legitimate scoring option on this team right now, and a bad Melo shot is usually our best shot.”

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KQOPEX3SQPI5BTT43Q2SYKE5Q nytosftransplant

Yeah, Kenyon Martin as savior. Oh wait, that’s Baron Davis.

  • So4realNY

But there’s only one prob we got have a grand total of 2 mil veteran/mid level bla bla bla

  • Mucha7

We would be a much improved team if we had Buckets. He can be awfully bad when he’s given too much freedom but he’s a baller.

  • Jayo_55

I think Rondo/Bass would make up for Amare’s scoring.

  • WAGSY

you keep asking me why i talk about Denver players and then you post this?

    huh?

sir you should show some consistency in your opinions

  • thatsagoodpoint

    Haha. No, but not bad..

  • http://twitter.com/mjamal97 M. Jamal Green

    quote from the NY DailyNews:

“Since that celebrated trade 11 months ago, the Knicks are 20-27 including the playoffs. Denver is 30-16.

where are the trade stans? Didn’t that trade do GREAT THINGS for us?

New York City, Where there are suckers born on every street corner ….

  • WAGSY

Denver still winning? damn this really makes Dolans look horrible.
Boy if you are Melo right now you must really be embarassed by
the records of the 2 teams.

i wonder why some players like JKidd can go anywhere an make players around them better…

  • Jake Lefevre

I understand all the Fire D’Antoni and I wouldnt be shocked if the Knicks lose tomorrow and coach is fired Sunday morning… He may have lost the team completely and a change of head coach is necessary.. I get all that. But he is not the reason we cant score points. They are starting a rookie slashing guard at point guard in a system that requires a play making point guard to work. Shump isnt a threat for 3, Fields isnt a threat from 3, Melo isnt really a threat from 3, Amare isnt a threat from 3 and Tyson isnt a threat from 3.. Bill Walker isnt a threat from 3, Tony Douglas right now isnt a threat from 3.. Teams are just going to keep packing it in on and take away the pick and roll.. They have the worst bench in the league. We get down and Melo feels like he has to do it himself and I dont blame him. Coach is not the reason our offense isnt working, its because we only have 2 guys on the roster capable of scoring 20 points or more in a single basketball game. Look at a team like Orlando, they have 6 or 7 guys capable of putting in 20 on any given night or stretching the floor and hitting a 3.. The Knicks have 2 guys capable of scoring 20 points.. We just dont have good offensive players.

  • WAGSY

I feel really sorry for Melo right now

i mean i know he forced his way to the Knicks so that he could make the
    Xtras 40 million

but Nobody deserves this much embarassment…

    poor Carmelo

  • tommydee21

    Thank you my friend

  • Jake Lefevre

As crazy as it sounds i think Steve Novak needs to play over guys like Bill Walker.. I dont care if he can play defense.. We need a guy that can spread the floor and hit a 3 point shot.

  • tommydee21

thanks Wagsy…. really appreciate it. we’ll know tomorrow.

  • OLD KNICK

    That’s easy waggy….
I have only made 1 post regarding the nuggets. Also it is appropriate since we will see them very soon. You on the other hand waggy, are posting about denver every 5 minutes…
You should take the time to examine some of your posts just the last 2 hours. Also it is a post on facts and stats not just saying things like
” hardee har har I told you guys I was right”

  • So4realNY

The key word in the article is Ty Lawson=PG…. and Knicks=0 PG

  • Mucha7

I would offer Melo, Toney Douglas and Josh Harrellson for Rajon Rondo, Brandon Bass and Keyon Dooling.

You’re right about the division thing but would it prevent both teams from making a move when they have nothing to lose and desperately need change?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDMCW6W47JRZ4NHWT3NGSVSLUU RUBE

No need to panic. Team is just in a little slump. Happens to many a good team in course of a season. With that being said this team still has deficiencies that need to be addressed. Ball movement and decision making on offense is severely lacking. Need a pass first lead guard in worst way. Would it really be that hard to trade for Ridnour? He could hold down the fort till B Davis got back and slide into the backup role afterward. You’d be surprised how much an offense can improve when you have a capable player at the controls. This team is too talented to continue playing at this level.

  • DylanNYK

“They are starting a rookie slashing guard at point guard in a system that requires a play making point guard to work”

This is why a lot of the blame does fall on the coach The “system” we are using doesn’t work with the players we have, and he hasn’t shown the ability to adjust accordingly. You make a lot of good points, but its the coaches job to put his players in the best position to succeed.

  • FeltOnAmarE

What did he say? How was his attitude? Demeanor? Did you notice the formation of any more wrinkles?

  • Mucha7

Repost – you really don’t like the guy do you.

  • thatsagoodpoint

All that is well and good but you set an offense to the strengths of your players you don’t force players to it YOUR system if they can’t run it simply because it’s yours. That’s on the coach.

  • WAGSY

NY where guys think playing a game of 21 means they know something about Bballin

  • ek7

its funny to me how much sports are over-analyzed, its not rocket science. Point blank, we need more quality players. We have 3 good players on the entire team, its just not going to cut it. The shortened free agency/training camp has killed this team. We didnt have enough time to construct a proper roster and get everyone on the same page.

Last thing, I dont think Coach D is that terrible of a coach. But, this team and his system just dont fit, and coach doesnt know any other way to go about it. In general, you dont need a good point guard to have a good offense. you can run the princeton or triangle, etc to overcome that deficiency. But, in this system, you’re done if you cant run a good Pick n roll. Its just easier to change coaches than to change players, so thats the route we have to take.

I had to stop watching this game. Got to see D howard dominate bynum. Shaq needs to stop being so bitter ahaha.

  • TheHonorableHaS

I was gonna like this but you already have 6 likes and I didn’t wanna jinx the rule.

  • Jayo_55

    Nene
    Lawson
    Birdman
    AAA
    Harrington
the dude they had from BK
    K-Mart
    etc

Were all on that team already.. really not the type of thing you can measure. But given our current state, I can see why you would throw more gas on fire.

  • Jax13

the way we are going….we will beat denver tomm n they will give antoni an extension….

hate wishing for a loss but tomm nite has me thinking…..

  • WAGSY

It just so hard to see Denver winning

    while we lose

if it hurts me it must really be hurting poor (filthyrich)Melo

  • Mucha7

I like Carmelo more than Amar’e but I don’t think STAT has any trade value because of his knee and back injuries. Agreed about the coach.

  • TheHonorableHaS

Hey be nice, his name’s Radio. He’s obviously challenged.

  • WAGSY

Dolans like a Magnet for mediocrity

  • DylanNYK

I think he is assuming that no team is going to trade an elite PG for Amar’e.

  • datnewyorker

Denver has a good coach and NY does not. Denver also has depth NY does not. Denver will also soon have to pay all the talent on the team. So expect Denver to lose some of those players. They still have to pay Gallo and Ty Lawson and try to keep the team together.

  • WAGSY

last year during that 13 game win streak it seemd like we had a plan in place.

    All that Cap Room
    All those Players to deal
    Draft Picks

how did it turn on the DimeBag?

Melo i like ya , just not on my team…

  • So4realNY

Dolan doesn’t care if he looks horrible and he doesn’t care that Denver is winning. He cares that the Garden is sold out for every Knicks and Ranger game. Denver can go undefeated and they will still not win a chip. We all know it’s gonna be MIA vs OKC

  • and1buckets

Larry Johnson had a similar problem as Baron with a herniated disk that then turned into 2 slipped discs that later turned into bone on bone which led to his retiring early.

What is a basketball team if they don’t have the necessary personnel ( point guards) to compete.

  • So4realNY

I’d be willing to try anything at this point!

  • http://twitter.com/nycWDS WDS

All you idiots saying to trade Melo need to get real. Things will be fine once Pringles is canned (see what I did there?) Obviously depth NEEEEEEDS to be addressed.

    It starts w/ losing D’Antoni

Next bring in JR, illwill, etc.

Baron will be healthy soon but I am NOT counting on him to be anywhere near the player he was. However, he can be a huge attribute if he can just control our O and help spread the ball.

Lastly, as has been said on some other threads, It is gonna be sweet – real sweet – for D’antonis last game as knick “coach” to be a blowout vs the rich ‘n creamy Nugs

  • http://twitter.com/washmalone none

dude get real it was rock bottom since day 1 of the season when they threw out douglas at point guard, that set the tone for the beginning of a lousy season. plus no guards, no bench and cant seriouly expect to win at a pro level.

  • Mr. Bloop33

I don’t believe in saviors. This team is still a year away from where we all want it to be. We all need to grasp that.

  • Jax13

now is DEFINITELY the time to use humor to get us thru this? lol

  • Jayo_55

Guy tried to put the team on his back, just wasn’t built for that. He had some good moment though.

  • TheHonorableHaS

We still haven’t matched our two (one with that beloved team before “The Trade”) longest losing streaks from last year.

Oh, and for the record, we never had a 13 game win streak.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RPYWJIWMECD26SCODJEDDUVAHE Run – TMC

Didn’t (couldn’t) see the game. Who was “checking” Livingston?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R2DH7YHMII5AKMX73JFX2XZ7BE TonyToca

forget these bums….LETS GO GIANTS….watch this clip, especially the last 40 seconds when coughlin gets crankin….

  • http://NYJetsFan.com/ Mr. Smashington

Little? You mean catastrophic!! We just let the 0-8 on the road Bucks come into our gym and pimp-slap us on our home floor. We got ROLLED. If MDA said this was a ‘crisis’ then what would you like to call this one? I’m gonna go ahead and declare Marshall Law!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R2DH7YHMII5AKMX73JFX2XZ7BE TonyToca

Unfortunately for coach that’s the way it goes b/c he is responsible for preparing and motivating this team and they look horrible at both!

  • http://twitter.com/nycWDS WDS

    Excellent post

  • Mr. Bloop33

There’s moves to be made. We all knew this roster was a work in progress. JR and Kenyon are obvious options. As are dealing Landry and Doug…like I’ve been saying since July lol while they still have some value.

  • Mr. Bloop33

    LOL

  • Jake Lefevre

I agree that you cant force players to play a system they are not good at.. but the Knicks dont have a point guard on their team. They dont have a shooter and they dont have a big man to throw the ball in the post to. For a team that doesnt have those 3 elements there isnt a system that will work. We just dont have enough good players. I think it all starts with a point guard. I know Baron Davis isnt what he used to be but I still think he can help. He can get in the lane, he knows how to control a pace, he can throw the lob pass. And when he comes back everyone behind him moves a spot back. It will make our bench better as well having Shump’s energy coming off the bench. I hate to say this as well but I think this team desperately needs a guy like JR Smith. They need people that can score the basketball.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Charlie-Bell/100000975490978 Charlie Bell

lol…bring in jr, lillwill, etc….with what salary could we get more than one player? and why would they def come to the knicks? sure baron could help, no doubt….and it would obviously be better to trade stat than melo, but his contract makes it impossible, so if you can get an elite pg for melo, namely dwill, than it’s a no brainer at the deadline, but of course if the nets think they can still get dwight, that won’t happen…

  • So4realNY

But if your a Knicks fan how does it hurt when Denver wins?

    okay…here we go:

    Pre Melo Knicks:

    28 wins – 26 Losses (Winning Team)

    Post Melo Knicks

    20 wins – 27 Losses (Losing Team)

With the same coach no less …. so now I’m ready to hear the Trade stans comeback for that one.

  • DylanNYK

I remember when the Heat were struggling, and a lot of people were talking about breaking up the big 3. I’m not ready to give up on this team yet. We didn’t lose to the Bucks because we had less talent then them. We didn’t lose to Phoenix because they have better players. Right now, our players are not playing up to their potential, and the coach isn’t using them properly.

  • KVda1

MR.DOLAN…..WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR U TO GET RID OF DANTONI? HOW MUCH MORE EMBARASSING AND DISRESPECTFUL NIGHTS WILL U ALLOW TO HAPPEN B4 U REMOVE THIS GUY FROM HIS POSITION? THIS IS PITIFUL!! THE 76ERS HAVE A WAY BETTER RECORD WITH NO BIG THREE!!! THEY BARELY HAVE A BIG ONE. I DON’T SEE HOW THIS IS ACCEPTABLE!! I’M NOT BLAMING ANY PLAYERS BCUZ THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW A PLAN EVERY NIGHT…..I’M PISSED OFF AT THE PLANNER…….FIRE DANTONI!!! FIRE SCAMFONI!!!!

I still think this ship can be righted..we do have GOOD pieces(MELO,CHANDLER,STAT)..REALITY is clear we need a PG!..i believe Fields,Jorts and MAYBE TD can be solid pieces OFF THE BENCH…Antoni just cant do much with what we have because HE KNOWS NOTHING ELSE than his system, Square peg Round hole Tommydee…(good luck tomorrow btw)..Im disgusted with the play so far,but i just dont have that gut feeling like years before that this team is done…A fresh voice coaching would be a start, but we DEF NEED some pieces!! Im still riding with my boys.. KNICKS all day ERday!

sorry but toney douglas has had 15 poor games now andf he is now waived, benched or put on injured reserve. ny must be desperate for players to continue to play a 30 percent shooter who cant pass, defend or make basic fundamental plays. bill walker should have been waived, jeffries should have been waived, balkman should have been waived. time for the knicks to take chances and give some other players a chance to produce. waiver wirers and d league are calling.

None of this pre/post trade stuff when we were above .500

    just saying

(and yes most of us wanted to make moves when we were decent, so my post is rebuttal proof)

  • TIFOSO6

The Knicks are one of the worse teams in the league. The simple reason is that the most
important position on the court is point guard. The Knicks point guard position is terrible.
You remember that Walsh let Jennings go by, he should have been fired for that mistake.

Grunwald giving up Billups is turning out to be a huge mistake.

There are only two solutions. Baron Davis is healthy. Or trade Melo to the Nets for
Williams even up. A team of Williams, Chandler, Stoudemire, Shumpert and Harrelson
and Fields would be a powerful team.

If the Knicks had been smart they would have sent Stoudemire and Shumpert to the
    Hornets for CP3.

  • http://twitter.com/nycWDS WDS

Of course no judgment, we are all (unfortunately) knicks fans haha, bound by longing and misery. That is an intriguing trade…I suppose i’d consider it. I’m worried though that STAT just wont be the same player…him and Baron have one healthy back combined.

Do you think Deron and Melo could co-exist?…I dont

  • So4realNY

Yeah, not sure what wagsy’s smokin but last I checked Felton’s in Portland Mosgov is a non factor, Will Chandler’s in China and Al Harrington was not part of the trade. Ty Lawson play has alot more to do with Den’s success.

  • http://twitter.com/Franktober19 Frankie W.

MELO turns street real quick! Remember when he played for the Nuggets and got into it with the Knicks. Melo back peddled to half court with a smile on his face, and his hands up ready to fight. If only he focused that energy on the court!

  • Fields Fanatic

I think that Harrelson is being used to back Chandler and Jeffries for Amare. When Amare goes out, they have Melo, Chandler, and Jeffries. At the start of the second quarter, Amare comes back in with Harrelson. Harrelson then is a stretch 4 on offense to space the floor and then takes the opposing big man on D.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

r u serious? Jorts plays much harder and better than Jeffries does.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R2DH7YHMII5AKMX73JFX2XZ7BE TonyToca

dantoni obviously cant handle star power…he is supposedly an offensive wizard…but now that he has one of the best offensive weapons on his team, who just so happens to not fit his philosophy, he has become a thoughtless coward deferring to melo’s style…dantoni is a bum, and im ITALIAN lol

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

Yes another coach will make us better but we don’t go from 3 games under .500 to 4 games over .500. This is a bad team. Melo and Stat have to figure out things on there own eventually. Every team in the NBA runs the same plays. Basketball is basketball.

Antoni is at fault. but a new coach doesnt turn this team into anything other than a first round out in the playoffs.

  • http://twitter.com/Franktober19 Frankie W.

The Knicks defense was absent again tonight. So he was being checked by the fans in the crowd.

  • Blockerton

    Isn’t Steve Novak a threat from 3? Isn’t it coach’s fault he doesn’t play?

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

This team is a first round out in the playoffs with Antoni or Jerry Sloan. This team simply doesnt work and there not very good.

Your telling me with 50 games of you and a friend playing a pickup game you cant figure out how to play together with or without a coach? I play pickup games with friends and after a couple of games you get familiar. Your telling me professionals and all stars cant do this. Come on your smarter than that

Basketball is basketball. Having both of them completely dominate the ball ruins the whole team philosophy of basketball. A new coach doesnt change who our players are and there flaws as much as everyone wants to believe that it will. These players are who they are. Sloan cant turn Melo into what he’s not, and make Stat play defense and post people up.

Stat cant play defense. He has no post up game. Chandler has no post up game. Melo needs one on one. Stat goes one on one. Neither stat or Melo care about defense. This team is what it is. Stop acting like Antoni is the only reason we suck. And that Phil Jackson makes us compete with the heat.

  • Jax13

agreed but other coaches like popovich/mcmillian hold their players accountable….that is wut antoni does not do

  • So4realNY

I agree with you about the PG part but there is no way a trade for Melo goes down. Number one Williams is a FA next year so even if you make the trade what guarantee do you have that D-Will won’t walk?

Let’s rewind the time to 2008

    Donnie become knicks G.M
Donnie signs Scamtoni aka danni boy- yes it was all business and nothing to do with winning or basketball.

Donnie then trades Z-bo and Craw for a 25cent juice and a 25cent bag of chips
Donnie then trade rookie jordan hill jefferies and pick for T-Crak Knee aka mcgrady

He then signs ScamaE aka Amare to a Hella krazy contract thats fully guaranteed knowing this dudes back will not hold up for the length of the contract

Anymore could of got under the cap and had a plan to lose, thats so easy

  • PlugOne

tomarrow night is gonna be very very interesting.

im not rooting for a loss, as i never could do that to the knicks but a loss wouldnt be a bad thing at all…for obvious reasons.

will coaching cure all the problems? NO! absolutely not. but theres no possible way giving the team to woodson at this point will make us worse. lets get rid of dantoni and move on…see what happens.

i have nothing else to say. this is more disappointing then when starbury came here.

    to be continued…

  • knickfantoo

The worst thing that has happened to Shump was that nationally televised game against Memphis. He tried so hard to put on a show and took 15 shots in the 1st half, (20 for the entire game) and was heavily criticizedby the media (spearheaded by Barkley & Reggie Miller).

His confidence on offense has not been the same since. He defers to Melo on damn near every trip down court (just like TD). He hardly ever drives to the basket anymore. Hopefully, he’ll come back around. He had about 2 or 3 great passes to Fields and Stat, but, when he sees Melo, he just passes like nothing else matters.

No shots at Melo, but Shump needs to be more vocal and call better plays once he crosses half-court as opposed to giving the ball to Melo and running in the opposite direction.

  • KennyandtheMets

I don’t think Van Gundy would come back.

  • Fields Fanatic

Yeah, it was a streak of 13-1, with 5 wins, a loss, and then 8 wins. We could use some of that and soon round here.

  • NumberOneHeadband

I dont know about that trade being possible but I agree with you about pg being important. I know people chanting Lets go Giants. But how well would the Giants do without a qb?
    BTW- Lets go Giants!

  • KennyandtheMets

    That’s the answer!

  • So4realNY

I feel your comment and I like most Knick fans am disgusted with the coach and the players right now but we all know we can’t move the players. It falls on the coach to prepare and motivate his troops and lets face it the coach has lost this team, we’ve seen this kinda thing hundreds of times in many sports.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD

  • knickfantoo

    Makes sense.

  • KennyandtheMets

We suck and I don’t mean this as an excuse, but why are other teams allowed to travel with the ball constantly. I have noticed at least three obvious calls in almost every game this year that haven’t been made.

  • Cbrooklyn41

I always believed walsh is a Indiana Pacer at heart…that alone is enough for ME to question whatever he did here in NY… I can hear him and reggie miller chuckling now at our demise..smh

  • Jax13

before the season, people picked this team to go as far as the conference finals n lose to the heat….

granted a coaching change will not fix our problems but IT IS A START!!!!!

we shoot the ball well in a few of these games we get a few more wins and we are almost back to 500…..

things are aweful right now but someone has to be held accountable for this dispicable display of basketball at msg….

…if the coach does not hold the players accountable why should’nt antoni be responsible for his team?

we are real bad right now n we need a change because any coach that can put an emphasis on the basics can coach this team to at least a second round playoff run…..

  • illmatix

This is a crazy thought but here goes. I bet you if Melo couldn’t play for a couple of games, this team would play so much better offensively then with him. He is like a traffic jam. I would guarantee it.

This team has already GONE FISHING

  • TheHonorableHaS

The “coach” should have sat him for a couple plays and told him to attack the basket and stop shooting from outside. Instead Mike does nothing and just keeps saying “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go” (I guess he thought he’d shoot his way out of it, but he hasn’t looked nearly as confident since.

Forcing TD to play PG early on destroyed his confidence and Fields getting burned nightly playing out of position at the 2 (when he’s clearly a 3) I think has affected his confidence as well (hopefully he’s beginning to snap out of it as he showed flashes tonight).

No shots at Melo, but Shump needs to be more vocal and call better plays once he crosses half-court as opposed to giving the ball to Melo and running in the opposite direction.

Carmelo played terrible, but he did make a couple good passes and no one was hitting. _’antoni wants the ball handed off to Carmelo to run the point forward, but I think he’d be better on the block and passing from there.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

I do believe that Walsh did a good job and was 2 moves away from turning us into his vision which i think would have been a contender. I wanted Melo but once i heard Dolan interfered with Walsh’s trade i was scared, and worried.

  • http://twitter.com/SlingyLovesMMA Sam

No chance the Hornets would have taken that deal.

  • Jax13

front office dropped the ball on the pg situation….why cant they get another pg n fix it?

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

Maybe Antoni lost his team but who’s fault is that? Stat loves Antoni, Douglas and Fields liked Antoni. Everyone who’s played for him has liked him. Melo comes in and does the exact opposite of Antoni, maybe people are getting annoyed at Melo also. Maybe Melo is the fault of this coach losing his team.

I keep saying it Karl didn’t want Melo to play the way he did and could never change Melo .

I hate Antoni but he is well respected by players. and I really respect Karl. If those two cant change Melo what makes anyone think Melo can become the player we thought we where getting. All he is is a one on one scorer who ruins the flow of the offense.

  • bb_dot

I was just thinking how badly Donnie f’d up the ’09 draft. If instead of Hill we would have gotten Jennings, Holiday, or Lawson we would be so much better off. That was such as guard heavy draft and we managed to pick a useless forward.

  • http://twitter.com/Heather_Rose_ Heather Robinson

Check out my thoughts here: http://heathersportsworld.word

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WXJJKNFZGLIC5ADMYCPXD5IHEQ SuperT

    Baron Davis anyone?

  • Jax13

    wanted lawson from that draft

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

Because Donnie really messed up the Knicks drafts. No GM is perfect, Donnie made some really nice picks as the Knicks GM. Galinari, Fields was the steal of the 2nd round, Shump is a nice player, Harralson is the steal of the 2nd half. Walsh is a very good talent evaluator and i don’t look at him any less. Every Gm in the league has passed up a draft pick at one point in there career.

  • NumberOneHeadband

Exactly. Any serviceable pg would do. Could backup BD and let Fields and Shump slide over to their natural positions. Make it easier for everyone. This team has potential but gotta make moves to get the offense going before implosion occurs. Pg is a great place to start. Or does a pg really not affect the offense and its all Melo and Amare’s fault (as some doomsday trolls would have us believe).

  • Jax13

we might have ended up with deron williams

  • MSGMecca

Agent Zero, B Diddy, Melo and Stat. Wow that would be like an early mid 2000s wish list. Not so much now. Knicks get ‘em when they are old used up and fading. The hand me downs. Except they still pay 5th Avenue prices for ‘em.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

a PG doesnt change things either. This team is very flawed. One player like Gilbert Arenas doesnt make us a contender either. We are 2 or 3 good players away, and thats even if Melo and Stat can work which i don’t think they can even with a good coach.

We simply don’t have the money to fix our problems. We have been tricked. This team sucks. There are no possible solutions to improve this team to get it to where it needs to be. We can go sign. Carlos Arroyo? these guys don’t make bad teams into good teams.

It’s up to our stars. Can they make it work. Can they execute and not be selfish players. Can they make others around them better. Coaches cant do this. I don’t think these players can do this.

  • Ds2488

Unfortunately I agree Tommy, this is not yet rock bottom but we are close. This team is a joke and a disgrace to the uniform. Screw the coach and screw every single player on this team. I can’t recall being more disappointed in a player than I am in Melo- I really thought this guy was a superstar and I thought he would take the next step this year but he’s not a superstar and if anything he’s regressed. He’s just a chucker who plays poor defense and doesn’t understand team basketball. Stemming from this has been a complete regression in the play of every other person on this roster- There’s just no chemistry and ball movement and Amare is not the same player with Melo chucking and being a ballhog and Tyson taking up space in the middle. The Melo trade has been a total disaster and a complete failure so far. The old team didn’t have enough talent to win but was young, hungry, exciting, and competitive. This new Melo team isn’t even a team at all- It’s just Melo chucking with some breaks for Amare and Shump to chuck in between. Really boring to watch and again, absolutely no chemistry or teamwork.

    Quick numbered thoughts:
    1) It continues to amaze me how poor of a job Dantoni has done. It continues to amaze me that this fool still has a job. Can we fire this clown already?

    2) Toney Douglas needs to be benched, cut, or traded. He’s not doing anything of value on the court, and is clearly psyched out and lacks any confidence. Either bench the guy before he loses his last bit of trade value (which I think honestly has happened already anyway and he’s useless), or try and trade him. He’s miserable and doesn’t belong on a court right now.

    2. Along the same lines, just cut Jared Jeffries and Mike Bibby and give their roster spots to someone who can actually dribble and play point and a shooter who can actually shoot. Neither one of these guys ever deserves to see the court ever again. Sadly, Bibby is our best option at pg. What a joke.

    3) Get Bill Walker out of the rotation. I’d rather see Novak for his shooting or Balkman for his defense. Walkers another chucker who plays no defense and doesn’t understand team basketball.

    4) Send some kind of message to Melo and Amare by benching them or something. Neither one cares at all about defense and both are awful chuckers who don’t understand how to move the ball or play team basketball. Some kind of message needs to be sent to these guys to change their acts- You would hope stars would want to win and do whatever it takes to get there but then again maybe these guys aren’t stars. They’re just good scorers who are entirely one-dimensional.

Anyway, eff this team and everyone on it. I’m ashamed to be a Knicks fan.

  • bb_dot

..amazing Lawson went 18. I wanted Jennings once Curry and Rubio were gone. 20/20 hindsight I take Lawson over Jennings.

  • Jax13

gotta disagree, tyson is not the problem. amare looks shot after one season, he is not playing like a max player but he is paid like one for a total of 5 seasons.

we can get a real good pg next year but we are gonna have to pray baron is healthy in a few weeks

Yeah, D’Antoni just allows ill-advised shots game after game (for 4 damn years), and waits for any 1 particular player to get “hot.”

He sux as a coach…, no strategy witout a premier PG, doesn’t understand the half-court set, never preached defense, and does not know the meaning of discipline.

Like I stated on an earlier post, D’Antoni is the WORST possible 1st coach for a young talented player to have coming into the NBA.

Hopefully Shump, TD, Jorts, and fields can retrieve themselves because D’Antoni is not the coach to assist them.

  • Niv21

No HAS! I’ve seen the coach yell at Shump give up the ball to Melo! It’s definitely Dantoni’s call there to have Melo run as point fwd! Trust me.

  • Sandro Guedes

He wasn’t p!ssed ’cause the Knicks were losing. He was p!seed ’cause that little Jennings guy outplayed him big time. It’s a ego thing, not a team pride one.

  • Sandro Guedes

The Miami Big 3 was composed by a humble player (Bosh) and the two best stars in the league right now. All 3 of them play well on both ends of the floor.

The Knicks Big 3 consists in the two most overrated stars in the league, and a center that doesn’t play any offense besides alley-ops.

When you get two stars that don’t defend at all, taking 40M a year of your cap room, what chances do you get?

    One of them gotta go.
Unfortunately, no one will have Stoudemire.

So, Melo should be on his way to the Brooklyn bridge.

We could have kept Billups this year- rode his contract out- and IF Amare played like this- amnestied him after the season with both Amare AND Billups’ contracts coming off the books. We could have then signed either Dwight Howard and Steve Nash OR Deron Williams and a mix of talent. Melo, D-12, Nash, Jorts and Shumpert

  • nyknickerbocker

If I were Dantoni, I would firmly believe that my head coach status is dependent on tomorrow’s game against the Nuggets.

If I were Dantoni, I would have been resting Melo these last few games. You want this team to build confidence, increase ball movement and stay healthy? You should have rested or AT LEAST lower his playing minutes against the Suns and tonight’s Bucks. He is wearing some wrist guard and cannot make a friggin layup. Make sure his wrist is ok. His ankle is the least of his problems. By sitting him… two birds, one stone. We lost anyway, didn’t we Coach Dantoni?

If I were Dantoni, I would REALIZE that the Chandler move was the ANTI-MIKE DANTONI move. You don’t want a wrench thrown into the Mike Dantoni system. Similar to the Sprewell move. When Jeff Van Gundy was coach. But you know what Jeff Van Gundy did? He had him start off the Bench at first. Unpopular as the move was, he had the balls to do it. But you have shown me lack of by using TD is your whipping boy. Man up, be a NBA Head Coach.

If I were Dantoni, I would have acknowledged that I made a mistake of not utilizing Mozgov enough at the 5 spot last season. But, I had a way to redeem myself by making sure Jorts is properly developed. Honestly, if I were Jeff Van Gundy, err.. Mike Dantoni I would see Jorts as the type of center that fits the system. Stat at the four, and Jorts at the 5 opens things up for Stat and spreads the floor… especially when Jorts is hot. I realized Jorts can be kinda streaky also. Can be a nice offensive player and at the same time contributing on the defensive end and rebounds as well. Question of who is the X-Factor? Jorts is Dantoni’s type of center and coach doesn’t see it enough to utilize him well!?!

  • Niv21

The truth is Walsh signed Amare to try and lure Lebron to NY! That obviously back fired! From that day on, Walsh promised along with Amare that they were going to bring another superstar to NY!

Walsh wanted this and sold the idea to the media and fans and we all bought into it!

Another thing…. For you Gallo and Chandler lovers out there blaming Melo because your boys are no longer here! The fact is regardless whomever Donnie chased to add a 2nd star to the team, Gallo and Candler would be included in the deals as center pieces! They would have been gone regardless of Melo or not!

Donnie decides to offer Chandler over Fields by the way because Fields was his pick. Chandler was Isaiah’s.

I feel like Knick fans are so desperate for the slightest bit improvement they ask for Gilbert Arenas, and label BD there savior. I feel the pain but in reality being completely objective and not optimistic, this team doesnt work. BD is not steve nash he’s a score first mentality PG with a bad back. How is he going to play 3 games in a row with real mins?

He will be limited to 15-20 mins a night he cant go back to back to back. or 4 games in 5 nights.

Gilbert Arenas isn’t going to save this team either.

I want to win a championship. I have never seen the Knicks win a championship making it to the playoffs and getting knocked out in the first round is not acceptable.

This team needs a Raymon Felton, a healthy Baron Davis, and a Boris Diaw. (A guy who can post up, pass the ball, and stretch the floor.)

How he hell is this team going to get all the pieces it needs in order to compete. They are not one average player away. Not to mention the only real way for this team to win even with a new coach, and better pieces is for Melo and Stat to figure out how to play off each other. Until they learn to do that this team will be very limited, and never make it out of the 1st round.

The Knicks have 5 million dollars left so all they could get in a best case senario is a Jason Kidd which would really help, but thats all they can get no more money. They still have a very limited bench, and Kidd could help run an offense but you still need your best players to be able to play off each other. I don’t think even with a new coach they will work with how similar and selfish they are. Knick fans such as my self are in for a lot of misery for a long time.

  • JacesAces

I want to get rid of D’antoni, but I do not think that Woodson is the answer. I want someone new to come in to help inspire the team for ‘change’. Someone who can take authority. The problem with Woodson is that he’s already been a voice in the locker room and on the sidelines and I don’t think that voice will speak loudly enough to turn the team around as everyone is already so disgruntled. We need someone serious to step up and demand a change, and that someone needs to be new.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

What about not using Anthony Randolph. If Randolph had those 30 point 10 rebound 2 block games with the Knicks we prob could have kept Felton. Instead we play Jeffries.

  • gonzo1234

Seriously why hasn’t pringles been fired yet… i mean any other owner would have done it already… HE HAS NO RESPECT FROM HIS PLAYERS..during one timeout i saw pringles yelling at TD and he just turned his back on him.. On another note here is what needs to happen

    1) We need a real PG..i know this has been stated but a real pg will go a long way to righting this disaster. Too many people are playing out of their natural positions/in different styles of systems

    2) We need to run plays/do more than attempt the PNR only because i swear besides iso the pnr is the only thing we run (or attempt at least)

    3) Isn’t Novak a 42% 3 point shooter why is he riding the pine?

    4) Pringles contract should be terminated asap/ let woodson run the team i mean how much worst can it get.. i bet he will at least yell more than lets go and actually run designed plays to everyone’s strength

    5) Everyone claiming that we need to get rid of players or trade this listen this team can and I REPEAT CAN WIN..minus our pg situation for the moment we have the pieces to win but our system sucks and nobody knows what they are doing anymore because we aren’t built to run a a high tempo offense per say as pringles wants it to be

    6) IF Melo goes another 7-23 by the fourth quarter and doesn’t defer the ball then he should be benched he needs to learn what it is to be a team player

    7) What that all being said part of this also is practice and chemistry issues but it shouldn’t be this bad if i was the coach after this lost i wouldn’t let the players even leave the garden that night instead have them practicing after the game and learn some pride in the process

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

I no some one mentioned the Knicks messed up when they amnestied Billups i completely agree. This team wasn’t competing this year, and if the GM doesnt know this he should be fired. It’s his job to know how good his team is.

If he knew we wouldn’t compete why sign chandler wait till we get a lot of money off the books and go nuts.

  • Ds2488

Unfortunately I am beginning to agree with this. It’s been a long time coming. I used to think Melo’s supporting cast in Denver just sucked and he was the only one doing anything, but clearly it’s the other way around. The supporting cast was helping to cover up all Melo’s flaws while he did nothing but make them look shitty while chucking his way through games. Now without him everyone of them is flourishing and our crappy hated Gallo is the leading scorer on a much better team than us. Very sad. Hopefully Melo can turn it around but I’m losing hope quickly.

  • Niv21

Yea! I’m not into Woodson either. His body language sitting in the bench or In interviews are not that awe inspiring!

At this point! If Amare has to tell the team to try and buy into the system is a major red flag to me! Tells me the coach has lost his players and usually, if a leader has lost his team, fails to inspire then there is reason. Change with the coach is needed.

  • knickfantoo

“2) We need to run plays/do more than attempt the PNR only because i swear besides iso the pnr is the only thing we run (or attempt at least).”
    =====================================

You didn’t know? Mike D’Antoni knows *nothing* about the half court set except P&R and isolation plays.

Nevermind the give & go, back door cuts, 2-man iso plays (inside/outside game), etc…, he’s really clueless.

  • Niv21

Not true bruh! When Melo came to Denver it was only him and lead the team to the playoffs every year in a very tough western conference! Over time tho, Denver’s supporting cast got a heck better. Don’t be fooled! It’s really this damn coach!

  • nyknickerbocker

As for Chandler. Honestly, I like him. I like him so much that it hurts me to say that either Dantoni goes, or Chandler does.

If Dantoni stays, Dolan has to use him in some type of deal that will hopefully bring some “Dantoni” type players here. Seems like Coach Dantoni cannot make it work with Chandler and the coach’s system. Otherwise, Dolan needs to fire Dantoni.

I believe the Denver game has to be the deciding factor. Knicks lose, Dantoni goes. If not and Dolan intends on keeping him. Then go all out for your head coach. For Dolan, it’s time to take his dump or get off the pot.

None of the Trade stans get it. It’s not neccessarily about Melo! It was about the direction of the T E A M. The T E A M was headed in the right direction. We had financial flexibility .. some assets we could have packaged to make better deals…we had options so that we could build a T E A M. The Melo trade addressed no BASKETBALL needs. We didn’t need anyone to score.. STAT was avg 26 ppg and .. shooting over 50% from the field and we were one of the top 3 scoring teams in the NBA. We didn’t NEED a me first volume shooter who played bad defense like our 100 Million dollar man. WE didn’t need someone that would hold the ball and chuck up shots and kill ball movement..we had enough players that could shoot it. We didn’t NEED Carmelo Anthony.

That trade and the fleecing of the Knicks was not made to improve any aspect of the team. It made us old..slow..and offensively dysfunctional as my fellow anti-trade posters kept screaming over and over.

We’ve been proven right in every regard.

  • DieHardKnicksFan33

The Knicks have a losing record since Carmelo Anthony got here. Need I say more. Most Knick fans including the media love his name, his scoring, his star power, etc., whatever you want to call it. But, he’s just not a good basketball player. He always gives off the body language that “he has to shoot the basketball” at all costs. He’s not a smart player, he’s a jock, he doesn’t play basketball the right way, he receives the ball and shoots and rarely relinquishes the ball to facilitate ball movement among his teammates. Basketball is about sharing, playing defense and trusting your teammates. Anthony displays none of these qualities. The reason Amare’s numbers are down is that he doesn’t receive the basketball nearly as much as he did before Anthony came to the team and he doesn’t receive the basketball at the right moments. Anthony struts around like he’s Michael Jordan. That’s really the crux of the problem. For fans who can remember, Carmelo Anthony plays team basketball like Bob McAdoo and Spencer Haywood did; you get my drift.

  • Niv21

You know who needed Melo right??? Donnie and Amare! Funny how people forget the promises they made to you, me and the Media what they planned to do!

Donnie said he wants to bring in a 2nd max player on this team!

Amare said the minute he was signed that he was going to lure another star to play along side of him.

They got their wish and fulfilled their promise! That is the truth!

Thank god Donnie failed throwing max money to Johnson and Gay!!!

My point is you complain about getting a 2nd star and yet you protect the people that wanted it! cold hard Truth!!!

Did you see Randolph play last year? He was not ready for prime time and ready for pine time. The kid thought he was a star in the making and bristled at being on the bench. Hopefully Minnesota will be the right place for him. NY wasn’t.

  • Eduardo1505

I say fire the coach and see what happens. If things continue to be so bad, then let’s think trades.

  • PippenAintEasy

Wether it had been Tyson or CB, this is the absolute worst we could have ever imagined. I miss CB, too. But if we had him, our front court would be an absolute joke. On the surface, this is an either or situation. But I still think that with this, and the next few years in mind, that Tyson was the right decision. No doubt about it, they need a PG in the absolute worst way. More than they need a new coach or any other solution. I just feel like, if it wasn’t this, wed be complaining about something else. I think if we had kept Chauncey and signed some random center, considering CB has missed a number of games in LA, the results would be more or less the same – 6-9.

  • knickfantoo

Lawd forbid Denver beats the Knicks tomorrow because the *ANTI-TRADE* fellas are going to have a blast on this forum.

    sheesh

  • ek7

we miss Chauncey’s steady game at the pg position and his 3 point shooting. those are our 2 biggest needs at the moment.

  • http://twitter.com/abztractgenius Zeus

The answer is simple folks, time for a coaching change… Its obvious we need a point guard but we shouldn’t be playing this bad.. We don’t have a huge problem scoring so there are issues in the court as a team thats causing us to lose games we should be winning. Its time for D’antoni to go.

  • DieHardKnicksFan33

The Knicks problem is they have a very selfish player in Carmelo Anthony. It’s been that way since he got here. Why can’t everyone see this?

Cut your losses and get rid of this guy now and let’s start all over once again. Do they need a point guard, yes. But the most important thing Knick management can do is get rid of Anthony first and bring team basketball back to NY.

I agree with this. Melo was incredible a few years ago when he took that Denver team to the conference finals against the Lakers.

But since then, that team did nothing until Melo left. Coach Karl clearly had problems with him, and they’ve been much better since he left. Every player on their team seems to have improved since Melo left, while every single player on the Knicks seems to have regressed in that same time period. At this point I have to wonder if there’s a common cause for both.

But yes I agree, the first move has to be to remove the coach. I really don’t get how he still has a job.

  • DieHardKnicksFan33

At the end of the day, Carmelo Anthony is happy scoring over 30 pts. per game with a low shooting percentage. Winning is not the most important thing to him. Scoring the basketball is.

  • PippenAintEasy

To answer your question – yes. It makes Boston worse.

Amare sucks without a PG. But him going to Boston, with Avery Bradley as the only other PG on their roster, while they already have KG, would be a horrific move for Boston to make. Not to mention no team will not take Amare bc of his contract. Now they’re going to get worse and take on the worst contract in the league for their PG who is locked up for 4 more years?

  • http://twitter.com/Heather_Rose_ Heather Robinson

Many people will knock Melo but after watching his post game comments and then seeing the comments of his teammates, I don’t understand how Knicks fans wouldn’t want him on their team.

Hopefully the same tenacity and frustration will wear off on more of the Knicks players and translate into some W’s…

  • PippenAintEasy

Like I said on my blog:

They need a coach that’s going to light a match under their butts and get rid of all this soft basketball. If you’re going to turn the ball over, do it running someone over while you were driving to the basket. If you’re going to foul, be clean but make sure the opponent knows you hit them.

Mike D’Antoni’s teams have always been soft and that’s definitely not a word I’d use to describe NY basketball over the years.

  • FRANKGIFFORDFAN

Denver will not get a championship without a true star. They have not accomplished anything
and the difference between the Nuggets and the Knicks is Karl >Pringles..If the Knicks fire Pringles we still can turn it around with a point guard.

  • Niv21

Denver is much deeper! A major adjustment Karl made with this team is simple but very important! He took his strength! A deep bench and turned it into an advantage! If you notice all of the players minutes are shortened so he can play everyone getting solid minutes! THIS….. Has kept the legs of his players fresher through games and through out the season. With this approach especially in a condensed season, this management style will pay off big time for the Nuggets! They will be sleeper this year!!!

  • nyknickerbocker

The Knicks have had a losing record NOT since Anthony got here. The Knicks have not looked good since Tyson Chandler got here.

The first two playoff games with Boston were competitive and Stat played big game one and Melo game two. With Stat and Billups getting hurt and with the heart-breaking first two games, we just didn’t have enough. We beat Miami in that exciting game. I even remember people wanting Miami in the first round of the playoffs.

So this season, Tyson comes in and the offense disappears. I don’t like Dantoni, but the one thing his team’s do is score. Offense is our biggest problem.

I have been a Knick fan since the days of Bob McAdoo. Came in too late to never see the Knicks win it all. I hope some day I will get to. I thought we could have won it all with the Ewing teams, and thought we were starting and on to something special last year, just missing a couple of pieces.

Tyson was wrong for this system, regardless of what the views are on the system, coach, or on Tyson. I like Tyson. He just doesn’t fit the offense, and Stat I’m sure has suffered as well from it. Taking threes? Please! With Stat, I can accept he doesn’t play defense well. Personally, who cares? When Dantoni’s system is working, its not really about the defense anyway.

  • jaymanjd

Wow I haven;t posted in awhile. Honestly I have been focused on the Giants, but watching my knicks start the season like this is Turd City.

This team lacks balance and lacks identity. You got a coach who in my opinion sucks who now cant even accomplish what he is good at which is offense. I have wanted him gone for so long so maybe thats a positive to them losing. Sadly all the blame is not the coaches right now. The team has three talented players in Chandler, Anthony, and Amare but they do not seem to mesh together at all. Carmelo shoots everytime he gets it which i dont really blame him since besides Kobe and Lebron hes the best pure scoring threat in the league. But this makes Amare into an average power foward because he demands a lot of attention as well and if Amare does not have the point guard to give it to him for easy cuts he has to settle for mid range jumpers which he is no Karl Melone at. Chandler also needs a good point guard to be consistantly effective offensively.

In my book if this keeps going the way it has with little meshing amare is the weak link. He is an average defensive player who has now lost his pop because of a lack of a point guard and a Carmelo dominated offense. This pains me to say because Amare was the trail blazer but if I had to choose at this point Amare would need to be that chip to turns this ship around.

If for some reason Howard was traded to anywhere but the Nets Williams would want out. The Knicks are on his short list. If he forced the Nets Hand I would trade Amare in exchange for Williams.

Having a team with Williams, Carmelo, and Chandler is much more balanced than with Amare. You have your elite point guard, elite score, and elite defender in the middle. The other thing I believe you have is more money to spend since amare max contract would be bigger than the max given to Willams due to the new agreement. The knicks could use that money to bring in guys like JR Smith and Wilson Chandler to come off the bench.

Randolph is another one that was not utilized and developed well . Although Randolph did have some BBall IQ problems, he could have been used more. We needed size last year, and yeah… Both Moz and AR were not utilized well.

  • http://twitter.com/mjamal97 M. Jamal Green

Lets also go back and revisist the First version of that trade: It was Gallinari, Fields or Chandler, Curry’s Expiring, a First round pick for Anthony and one of their bad contracts..and I think it was Al Buckets that was initially the throw in from Denver.

That was a tough one because I liked both Gallo and Will but that seemed like a decent deal and I supported THAT version of the trade. Fields was beasting at that time so it seemed like an even trade where everyone wins.

But Denver decided they wanted to get rid of Billups as well so they doubled down and demanded Felton and Mozgov and that we take billups so that we would be stuck with his 14 Mil option that was about to come due. That’s when I realized that Denver had jumped the shark and the price was too much. It was essentially gutting our team for one player and a has been and I didn’t see what we were getting out of the deal! We would go from young, athletic, exciting, to old and slow.

The first version of the trade it was basically a Melo for Gallo swap and I could live with that. The 2nd version was a Melo and Billups for Will Chandler, Felton, Gallinari, Moz, our 2014 first-round draft pick, and $3 million in cash.

That made absolutely NO SENSE from a BASKETBALL standpoint and I was horrified that no one could see how BAD that deal was for the T E A M.

But again, I and the others who were against that idiotic trade, have been proven right.

  • Niv21

    The west was stacked!!! SMH!

This was the approach I was leaning towards. We still could have had a solid team while maintaining our financial flexibility by opting for a dirt cheap “center by committee approach” (sign Kurt Thomas and Reggie Evans at the vet min, and rotate KT, Evans, Jorts, and Jordan at the C spot).

Melo. Melo. Melo. I love the guy but without a PG he is out of control. He takes bad shot after bad shot an no one on the roster or bench has the marbles to scold him.
This team needs Baron Davis, 1) to get Stat involved 2) to ground Melo 3) to score .

Lets not forget Billups avg. 20 a game your missing that. The best move this franchise made in 20 years was signing Raymond Felton. They nullified that in a heart beat when dead beat OD Dolan stuck his beak into the Melo trade talks. Denver had 0 use for the guy but demanded Beatle Juice to be vindictive. Now you have a half assed defensive team that lacks depth and any true offensive flow for lack of a PG. Everything hinges on Baron Davis .. good luck keeping your job Pringles.

  • justforyoumissy

Melo a shooter that may shoot the most, but not have the most points. someone that disrespected the Knicks on their home court by punching someone then running away. I can go on if you like

  • justforyoumissy

yes it is truly we need to get rid of a player that I once called al harrington 2.0. we Need a point guard not a chuck. Still in the minority since the trade in disagreement about it. We need a strong and smart point guard for D’antoni’s system…..so an all star pg for an all star sf

  • Niv21

You forgot one important fact! Donnie had a deal to just send Felton, Chandler & Gallo!

While true.. Donnie Balked taking back Billups because he wanted to keep Felton. He should have pulled the trigger right there, instead…..

He took his time and sat on it while using the very trait that he was known for and that was “being patient” he played the game of poker and he got burned!!! He waited too long and Denver upped the asking! Finally asking for the Moz to be included!

At that point you just have to do the freaking deal! Gallo, Chandler and the Moz where all distracted, playing poorly and hurt that they are part of the trade talks.

At that point it had to be done and guitar Jimmy stepped in and closed the deal.

Finally, on Fields! Donnie prefered to keep Fields over Chandler. IMO, Donnie preferred Fields because Donnie drafted him as the steal of the draft! While Chandler was Isiah’s pick! So for Willy Chan supporters… We could have still have Chandler on this team.

The blame should be on Donnie on that one.

  • http://twitter.com/mjamal97 M. Jamal Green

I disagree. STAT was doing fine without Melo. Thats a fact that can be proven if you look at old games or if you look at the stats Pre and Post Melo.

Did Amare really lose a step? Or is it now that he’s matched up with Power Forwards instead of centers his offensive woes (as clyde would say) are compounded by the fact that there is no PG to get him the ball in a PnR or in the right spot? Now add the fact that we have NO SHOOTERS to spread the floor…something every team in the NBA has…and TyChan is clogging the lane on offense even though he has no offensive game to speak of..how can STAT attack the rim? He has nothing to work with.

I do NOT want to become the Denver Nuggets 2.0 with Melo leading us to first round exits. He had much better teams (and a much better coach according to everyone in NYC) and he led them nowhere. He’s shoots a CAREER 41.9% during the playoffs vs. STAT’s 51.4% STAT’s career numbers go UP in the post season.. Anthony’s goes DOWN. No thank you.

Trade Melo to the Nets for D-will. Then everyone’s happy. Melo gets to stay in NY, the Nets can then fool everyone in Bklyn that he’s a “superstar” and market the heck out of him.. D-will stays in NY where he wants to be. We get a point guard… they get a “star”. Everybody wins.

Besides.. STAT’s contract is uninsured and basically unmovable.

Everyone can agree that its time for Mike D’antoni to go. I agree that the Felton signing was great.

Billups coudn’t penetrate off the dribble or get into the paint. Felton could do it at will. Both guys would chuck up shots and clang it off the rim more often than not. But the difference is that when Felton was here..he averaged 9 assists per game vs. Billups 4.. thats what I miss most. Felton passing to open players and them hitting open shots vs the b.s. we’re witnessing now.

  • Niv21

Playing under Dantoni! Felton would still be chucking threes! Felton is horrible with the 3 this year by the way!

See Toney Douglas and Landry Fields this year.

  • ppny

Obviously need a PG hope BD is getting healthy. That said it really appears even offensive minded DAntoni can’t get Melo and Amare to mesh. Knicks could have 2 max out superstars who appear past their prime. How bout trading for Fredette, the Kings aren’t using him much and he can;t fit into their system. Dantoni realy liked him in combines. He can shoot and score something the Knicks can’t do. He’s doing nothing in Sacramento, maybe the’d trade him.

You’re absolutely right on both points. This squad has been torn up and reconstructed about 4 times in the last 2 years and people are wondering why we aren’t the 3 seed in the east. The coach is just about done and we still have a ton of roster moves to make.
Our stars aren’t facilitators and they all
need one to function properly. There’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future, but let’s be real here we have to fill out the roster because these scrubs on the bench ain’t cutting it HaS.
I expect us to slip in the back door come playoff time and possibly make some noise, but we need a facilitator and a new voice on the sidelines to make it happen.

  • TheOneNOnly_Q

For those “Tommy” who always remind you of what a great job Donnie Walsh did we desperately need a PG. However; he past on Jennings, Lawson and the worse move he made was hiring MDA. A hire that totally went against what the Knicks organization has stood for Defense. We are now paying for it because we have a coach that doesn’t teach, adjust or mold young players. Time is now to cut ties with the coach.

You know something I was the biggest advocate for getting Melo here, I wasn’t as big on Amare, but Melo yes then over these past couple of games I noticed that no one on the team is a leader including the coach. Melo wanted to be thrown out of the game becuase the team was losing and he was frustrated which to me is inexcusable and a punk move if you ask me, Amare is playing like he don’t care and don’t wanna be bothered and all over whether it be on ESPN or NBA Gametime or TNT with Charles, Shaq and the crew they all say something aint right. If the players are conspiring to get Mike fired then I am not feeling that becuase then when does it end? So Woodson takes over or Herb then what when the teams still don’t win or play up to their capabilities they gonna quit on them too? Here is my realistic and unrealistic solution (blow it up)! I am talking get rid of Mike it is his last year anyway, trade Amare and whoever else not named Melo and Tyson to the Grizzlies for Rudy Gay and trade Melo to the Nets where he wanted to be if he couldn’t be a Knick and get Deron. We are talking a much balanced team with a top 5 pg, an up coming or already there superstar in Rudy a defensive and locker room presence in Tyson and we can fill in the two guard and 4 much more easily depending on who stays on the team if these trades go down. Again I wanted Melo here but what he pulled has me saying its time for him to go along with I don’t feel like playing Amare.

  • TheHonorableHaS

    Agreed.

  • TheHonorableHaS

Chandler would still “be in the way”, the “coach” simply can’t make 2 big men work. It’s either stretch 4 or playing PF at C and SF at PF.

If any TWO players are inside the 3 point arc he can’t make it work. 1 in 4 out baby, ’til the wheels fall off.

  • chris b

Sean, trading from weakness will result ,in my opinion, in bringing in more problems then players. Stats is playing at about50% of last year, Mello is getting very frustrated with the coach and the guards. He actually played the point last night and moved the ball, but to no avail, as no one could actually do anything with it save Joorts who made a corner J. I see the only real solutions as 1. getting rid of the coaching staff and bring in an entirely new one. JVG would be a great pick, but Dolan and he do not get along and that is not going to happen. Mike Frattello is or at least has been a good coach, and might try. No one on their current staff will effect a change in attitude from my point of view. Long shots are some of the former players working for NBA and TBS. When doing this the GM position should also addressed. They actually created some of the disarray by not having at least 2 pgs before unloading Billups. 2. I would start bringing in pgs to try out and see if any can be serviceable. The goal now has to bring in fresh coaches add true pgs and set realistic goals (make the playoffs) for these players to take the pressure off and clean up what is an unwatchable mess

  • nycbadger24

Funny how I’m reading how D’Antoni lost the team and should be fired. While I agree, he’s not the right coach for this team, the way it’s built right now, I think everyone forgets how much BETTER we were without Carmelo. The fact that Dolan gave away all that he did to a team with a highly disgruntled star is the key. That trade took stripped us of 1) ALL our depth 2) Future picks 3)Cap flexibility 4)Team chemistry. Looks like Walsh was right to be concerned he was giving up too much. For those of you that thought you had all the answers and that getting Carmelo would make us instant contenders and screw chemistry, depth and future picks…these are YOUR NEW YORK KNICKS! That Knick team before the trade was fun to watch and easy to root for. Now, it’s all about isolations and no ball movement (partly because of lack of back court players).

Management should never have picked up CB’s option, let him go without wasting their amnesty (another ridiculous move), Stat has all but vanished playing next to Carmelo as Melo milks the clock and Stat is all about the pick and roll and movement towards the lane. Reports are Barron Davis can be back as soon as next week, we better pray that he has something left in the tank, because if he doesn’t, this team is scrapping to get into the playoffs and get absolutely annihilated 1st round by either Miami or Chicago.

Oh and for all those that cheered the Melo trade: Nuggets are 28-12 since the trade, Knicks are 20-22. There is a lot of blame to throw around and D’Antoni is not scott-free of it. That said, there is a lot of blame to pass around with a majority of it going to our over zealous undisciplined owner Dolan. He stripped our GM of his power, agreed to Denver’s demands when he was the only option in town and crippled this organization going forward. And if you think Anthony is not guilty and has bought into D’Antoni’s ball movement system…not sure what you’ve been watching.

D’Antoni is getting fired, could be in a week, could be in a month, but he’s gone. Knicks will make their new defensive guru coach but that’s not going to make things better. This team is flawed and Knicks fans will be soon be rooting again for “next year.”

  • Roscoe_Dash1

  • jaymanjd

Hey i understand the possible hiccups in moving Amare but you are a little crazy if you think Amare has even near the talent that Carmelo has. These are both two offensive minded players right? One guy can get his shot any where on the floor and the other needs an capable point guard to be effective. Amare is not a low post dominant big man he is a face up slasher who have an average jump shot. You can replace Amare skill set. Its arguable that for all the flash Amare gives you no more prduction than Zach Randolph or Kevin Love look at the numbers. However, Carmelo’s skill set is only replaceable by three or four guys in the league. Amare didnt win anything either and had an even better team with the suns than Carmelo.

Both have flaws no doubt but Amare’s production is more replaceable than what Melo gives you. What we need is the right system. You bring in Jackson with his triangle offense and give Melo a Kobe role it might work better. Putting Melo in a D’antoni fast pace system is not the right fit for Melo’s style. Thats why I said this team has little identity because amare is built for the fast pace passing shooting style of D’Antoni and Melo is just not. THis team needs to decide whether offense will cateer to Melo’s game or Amare’s. And if I had to choose it would be Melo’s.

  • tomg12

I was a knick fan from the late 60′s to the end of the Patrick Ewing days. I don’t follow basketball anymore so I don’t have any emotio0nal ties to the Knicks. I was surprised to read on this blog before the season started about how the knicks were going to contend for a championship. I did somewhat follow and read online about how bad Thomas set the knicks back. I thought Donnie walsh did as good of job as he could to get the knicks out of dead contracts. If any body is to blame it’s Dolan. It appeared Donnie had built up some good young assets and traded for others and was heading in the right direction until Dolan get involved and went over walshes head to make the Anthony trade. I knew the knicks were done. I am a die hard NY ranger fan and I’m glad dolan doesn’t get involved with the Rangers as much as he gets involved with the knicks. anthing that fat turd touches turns to crap. I watched sather do the same thing the knicks have done here and it doesn’t work. Sather was forced to get away from spending on free agents like a drunken sailor because of the cap. Sather finally realized that it doesn’t work and drafted and developed young players and now the rangers are headed in the right direction. The knicks will be the joke of the league until they keep there draft picks and draft and develop players. YOU CANNOT BUY A CHAMPIONSHIP IN SPORTS THAT HAVE A CAP. Baseball and the yankees can do it because there is no cap. I do feel for you die hard knick fans, hang in there.

  • snadler

Does Melo shoot to much, yes. Does Melo need to shoot a higher percentage, yes. However let me ask this question fellow knick fans, if you were Melo who on this team that’s playing would you pass it to? There is nobody that plays can make shots, which leads to selfish play. I see melo pass the ball several times to a wide open fields who either shoots a brick or turns down the shot. Amare has had decent shots when he’s not trying to run over people and it’s a brick. Shumpert can’t shoot. Td can’t hit the side of the barn. So I go back to my original question. If you were melo who would you pass the ball to for a better shot then you are going to take..

  • KTAB

What happened to the lobs to Tyson? It is Melo’s responsibility as the Knicks best player to lead this team and make his teammates better.

  • KTAB

There is a reason besides the West being deep why Melo who was surrounded with better talent, and a better coach did not elevate the Nuggets. He is s selfish player that alienates his teammates. Until he corrects his attitude we will continue to underachieve.

  • Jax13

chandler has been everything we hoped for….the rest of the knicks have not…..

I have no problems with tyson..he should be the captain because he is the only vocal leader who actually says it n does it on the court……

….unlike amare who is the worlds biggest cheerleader..let amare turn around the knick city dancers because the way he is playing, he is more suited to do that….

  • TIFOSO6

You noticed that Boston scored 71 last night without Rondo. Point guard is the most
important position in the game. Grunwald deserves blame for trading Billups without
setting up a replacement. If he and the coach were stupid enough to believe Douglas
could do the job they both should be fired. I say trade Melo right now for Williams on
condition that Williams sign a long term contract. Unless they make a trade they will be
the worst team in the league. Davis may come back but now they are saying it may take
    two more weeks.

  • Jax13

agreed….Melo is not the problem but part of the solution, my god, melo is bringing the ball up! he needs to get the ball in the low post or on the wing. no one on theis team is making shots. HE WAS A PUNK LAST NITE N LOOKED LIKE A CRYBABY but I think he is trying to do it all himself. he is putting effort on the defensive end.

lets face it, Melo is not a leader…TYSON should be the leader on this team. Tyson is the only vocal guy on this team n I do believe he has been the only player we have who has done what he was paid here to do……

amare is more of a “paper cheerleader.” he talks alot, first to greet guys when they come off the floor, good with media, etc

I see amare talking to teammates on the floor but what good is that when he is always out of position?

we need a capable pg n they right guys will get the appropriate touches….Melo is not a point forward, amare looks lost n old after only one season n TYSON right now is our best n most efficient player but is more of an intangible player..

we need our other 2 stars to play accordingly……

also we need a system that compliments these guys…..

antoni does not look like he inspires, hold players accountable nor can make adjustments…..

  • Brad1982

This Tyson Chandler Deal is winding up being a Disaster! We had Turiaf at Center who was not great but competent! With the addition of Harrellson, we would of been competent in the front court- Amare, Turiaf, Harrellson, Jefferies!

Starters would of been Billups, Iman, Melo, Stat, Turiaf
    Bench- Fields, Douglas, Harrelson, Jefferies

I was a little nervous about the addition of Chandler when it happened, but then I started listening to the reporters about how good our front court will be. But my main concern was scoring, billups was the floor general and the 3rd scoring option, but now hes gone.
I figured stat and melo would together combine for 50-60 pts, but could not figure out where the other 40-50 pts would come from each night!

Now our hopes are that Baron Davis can fill Billups role. I was feeling ok about that until i heard his interview last night. He stated that he thought he was done playing basketball- thats how bad his back is/was. Now were hoping in this condensed schedule that he will be able to remain healthy- pain free in his back. That just seems ludicrous to me.

He wants rings, he has ncaa title, olympic gold, and he wants rings. He is playing hurt, playing the point, passing to stiffs, doing what he can, we all want superman every night, we want D Williams today, well guess what he made Sloane quit the game, think about that you might be getting. Didn’t watch the game last night, but, let me guess what happened. Once again, Delfino torched Melo and took him out of the game by playing him physical.
Brandon Jennings played inspired to show us we should have drafted him and embarrassed our defense. D’Antoni screamed at Toney Douglas for something,
we shot as if we never played a basketball game before, Melo tweaked something,
Amare and Melo continued to say things will get better. D’Antoni makes some funny jokes afterwards.

Am I getting it right so far?

That team was sputtering into the break last season and they looked bad against some of the better teams. Gallo is soft. Chandler was soft. Felton was solid. Moz Zzz. C’mon.

This team is in bad shape, but still has a great core. We need effective role players and PG to compliment our stars, not a team with 1 scoring PF and decent role players.

  • Buckviewer

Wow, Hello Melo….it is not about being cool and your stat line….ie….see the definition of team, defense, and what it takes to get a W.

  • Brad1982

another things thats been moronic with the knicks management over the last few years with D’Antoni: His system is based on great PG play, but we never decide to draft a PG!
No problem drafting combo guards, but lets not draft a true PG! Just Moronic!

2009 draft PG’s who were chosen after our pick of Jordan Hill- Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Ty Lawson, Jeff Teague, Eric Maynor, Darren Collison

2011 draft- i was high on norris cole and he seems to be pretty competent. I was also very high on SG Marshon Brooks and he is already rated according to PER around an all star level- PER: 20

This team is just so poorly mismanaged, I just dont know how much longer i will be able to tolerate watching. The sad part is, we dont have draft picks or cap space to add major pieces. I feel this team could be stuck in mediocrity for the next few years.

My plan for change- Fire the Coach, Stop Switching every second on defense, and trade our selfish, foolish stars away( Melo and Chandler for Howard and Turkoglu/ and Stat for Deron Williams)
starting 5- Williams, Shumpert, Turkoglu, Harrelson, Howard
its more important to have a top pg and the most dominant center than having a top scoring SF and PF that dont play defense well and are not smart heady players,

  • Mr. Bloop33

Billups is old man. I’d gladly deal a over the hill PG for a top flight C. It hurt us in the back court dept, but it’s not like Chauncey was putting us over the top either. This notion that Turiaf was a valuable piece is wrong. He’s always hurt.

We have a core that consists of no pass first playmaker, a young promising rook, and 2 scoring forwards and a center…and nothing else.

  • MrBoots

Just a thought: I keep reading about how Walsh was at fault for not drafting a point guard instead of Hill. I agree with that sentiment, but . . .

    Suppose he had.

I’m certain that Denver would have demanded said guard as well since they were intent on looting the Knicks roster, and Dolan would have given him to them.

The Knick’s would still be lacking a quality young PG.

    Just a thought.

  • FrankTKB

I read alot of second guessing of the Melo trade but its seems like we forget that there were other players in that trade that we could use right now like Billups and Carter. When we had to let go of Billups we lost scoring, outside shooting and a floor general. They figured TD would be able to give us something but he has been beyond terrible. We got excited about Iman, and we should be longer term, but the guy is a rookie and it’s clear he doesn’t know how to control the tempo or where to get guys the ball. We are all hoping for BD to be the savior but what happens if he can’t stay healthy? They do need to do something about the guard play. Arenas is still out there, buy JR Smith out of China, Jamal Tinsley…something!

  • Roscoe_Dash1

Well as I battled with ds2488 over having Melo come here at the expense of Gallo, Felton, Mosgov and the rest we both turned out wrong I guess in the situation. Gallo has been good but no All Star and not the leader of a team. Melo has turned out to be a spoiled brat who when things don’t go his way he pouts and doesn’t give 100% I mean that pass that was stolen would have probably had Jordan or Magic or Bird if they were his teammates giving him the business and maybe a Phil would have benched him for that. In the CYO kids know better than to throw a lazy pass like that and getting into it with a player who really wants to be Knick in Jennings who again torched us an getting ejected was pathetic. So whoever he passes to can’t throw the ball in the ocean ok so does that mean shoot as soon as you get the ball? Stat has thrown in the towel becuase he is not the number 1 option anymore and not King of New York so he has this I’m getting paid regardless look on his face and demeanor. I have never been more mad watching this team and I know Mike knows he is gone at the end of the season so he is good. Some team with his type of talent will hire him, while if there are no changes we will continue to frustrate us all as fans/

  • bkyguy78

We can sit here and analyze evry little detail and mistake they made until the cows come home. I never understood the mentality of, if a player makes a mistake, you bench him.
    What does that accomplish?
When your dealing with a team as fragile minded as these Knicks, I believe some players PREFER to sit on the bench, so they don’t get pressured to perform and get booed.

Giant’s coach Tom Coughlin is a genious for the way he motivates players and makes his teams cohesive units. Yet, no one can figure out how to make the Knicks trust each other?
How about setting up a players only meeting? the Wizards did it.
How about scheduling a team retreat workshop, where they settle their differences and do something trivial, like catching each other falling backwards?

Whatever the problems are, they seem to be coming from the locker room.

DO SOMETHING!!! ANYTHING!!! CAUSE ONCE AGAIN, THE SHIP BE SINKING!!!

The only solution to saving this franchise is:

    1) Someone invents those memory erasing devices from the movie
“Men in Black”, and erases the entire planet’s memory of what the NY Knicks are/were.

    OR

    2) Nuclear holocaust wipes out the world’s population and all records of history.
The world slowly re-populates and when basketball is reformed on some level, all embarrassment is forgotten, the Knicks are re-established.

The fans need to start a campaign to BEG Phil Jackson to come out of retirement to replace “Mr. I know nothing except how to put the knicks down d’antoni”. He is hot mess of a coach. He needs to adjust his stubborn as hell strategy of shoot shoot shoot to the great talent he has in the big three. Reggie Miller even stated that. He does nothing well. There ary many ways to look at this but it has a common thread. The knicks are now playing like losers. Like the magic of Jordan found a way to win when he should of lost the knicks find a way to lose when they should win. They have front court talent that anyone would want. The back court while not sound should be able to be competetive and support the front court. The bench is a disaster and at best should play with heart and passion. At the end of the day it has to be the coach that gets the blame. I hear nothing from Dantoni that gives us hope. Two more weeks like this and there has to be a major shake up in the form of a big trade and or coaching change.

Everyone just needs to calm down and keep your fingers off the panic button. We are not a championship team. A coaching change won’t make it one. Baron Davis will not make it one. We have a room exception, the MLE and a 1st round pick in 2013 to add a few more pieces.

We have young players in Fields, Shumpert, and Harrelson that will get better. We will get a new coach in 2012-13 or sooner. Sometimes good things come from bad. Maybe this losing streak will bring about change in our players for the better. Maybe the hard losses will bring them together. We missed so many easy shots last night. The team is pressing and trying to hard. It’s like a batting slump in baseball.

Sometimes progress is two steps forward and one step back.

Keep the faith. The Knicks will go on a run soon.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

This team has way to many problems for anyone to just blame it on 1 thing. The PG and the coach don’t fix our problem.

This team plays the same way every night. They start off the game trying to get the ball to Amare and actually have good ball movement, but in the 2nd half when Melo trys to take over our team looks awful.

    1. Melo ruins the flow of the offense and is playing awful, cant finish at the rim, not shooting well.
    2. Amare is a shell of him self, and is not the same person he was last year
    3. They don’t guard the paint
    4. They switch every chance they get
    5. They don’t have a bench
    6. they don’t have a PG

That is 6 problems with this team and there are a lot more

Melo and Amare don’t mesh, Chandler hurts Amare’s production. There is no excuse to this. It is unacceptable. I don’t want to hear its because we don’t have a PG because we cant beat a team that is winless on the road!!!!!!

The PG and the Coach are contributing factors to us being bad, but we change that and where still bad. This is not a good team that works well together. It is pathetic.

THERE IS NOT 1 PATICULAR REASON WHY WE SUCK. THERE ARE A BUNCH OF REASONS. YOU CANT JUST BLAME THE COACH OR THE PG. This team doesnt work and is an embarrassment. Yes we don’t have a PG but we should still be able to beat the Bobcats, the Bucks, we cant beat anyone. This is much bigger than a coach and a pg.

There are players who don’t play well together. At the end of the day we need to finish at the rim. We need to have ball movement, we don’t have the personnel to be able to pass the ball like the Bucks did last night, because we have Melo and Amare not because we don’t have a PG. Melo and Amare hog the ball. Melo could be the worst in the NBA at that.

  • Mucha7

The Tyson Chandler deal is the only move the Knicks have made since Donnie Walsh took over that I would make with no hesitation whatsoever. He has been our most consistent player since the start of the season, he plays hard every night and he plays defense. We were not going anywhere without a true center.

If Mike _’Antoni can’t run an offense with a legitimate defensive center like Chandler and a power forward like Amar’e Stoudemire, blame it on _’Antoni, not Glen Grunwald for signing Chandler.

  • http://twitter.com/TrueHorrorNet Jason S.

Does anyone complain about Kobe taking all these crazy shots he does, even when the Lakers lose? Who is Melo supposed to pass to, when he does everything is a brick! You will need a Melo late in the game against teams like the Heat, but you need to be IN the game for him to make a difference, nobody on the team is hitting shots, Chandler is playing well, but he isnt a scorer. Amare, is playing horrible. The Coach for whatever reason cannot rectify this, I refuse to believe Amare and Carmelo and Tyson Chandler cannot be a core to a successful team with the right coach and personnel around them. Our player are being misused everywhere you look. Novak doesnt play, Walker is terrible and gets PT even though he contributes ZERO. Balkman who actually hustles, doesnt see the floor, Bibby the only natural point guard, plays sparingly, so he cant be expected to mesh with these guys at that rate. Jorts comes in hustles, then gets sat down for the rest of the game or put in when its too late. When you lose the SAME FRICKIN WAY EVERY LOSS, its a COACHING ISSUE. He corrects none of the constant issues that cause us to lose. Also none of these guys are getting traded sorry to break it to any of you. Not Melo, Not Amare, Not Tyson. Its up to a Coach to come in and make this team better, which any coach could probably do…except Pringles.

  • PlugOne

agreed…i don’t see how anyone can hate on tyson. He’s been by far our most consistent defender and has been everything i was expecting and MORE! he plays with hustle, heart, and passion every single possession.

Considering how there is a general consensus that a new coach is needed, who do you want to appoint and why? Mike Woodson? Phil Jackson? Chris Mullens? Jeff Van Gundy?
With the pressure and expectations rising with each day remaining until Baron Davis returns to the floor, what do you think Grunwald should do with the mid level exception and why? Jamal Tinsley? Wilson Chandler? J.R. Smith?

  • nyknickerbocker

The Knicks were basically a .500 team without Melo and also with Melo. They were not worse. The deal was supposed to be part of more to follow by filling in some missing pieces.

Offensively, things stop working after the Tyson acquisition. That move has had more of a negative impact so far than the Melo trade. Tyson is a player that just doesn’t fit Dantoni’s system, nor has Dantoni proven to be able to work him in. Basically it’s been lobs into Chandler at the expense of Amare’s game. He would have been better using Jorts at the 5 who can truly create more space for Amare while providing some rebounds and defense.

  • nycbadger24

You think Grizzles would trade Gay for Amare….you lost me right then and there.

Knick fans are always waiting for something or someone.

Now where waiting for BD after BD we will still be waiting for Phil Jackson. After Phil Jackson we will be waiting for Steve Nash. When we don’t get Nash we will be waiting for another PG. After that we will still be waiting to see if Melo and Stat can work. After that we will be waiting for a bench.

This team only has 5 Million dollars, how the hell are they going to get Nash when he is playing the same way he did 10 years ago. A lot of teams will be going after him with a lot more money. If we get Nash how the hell are we going to fix our bench? We have no money. This team is a train wreck. With absolutely no resources, and overpaid “stars.”

I think Woodson should take over as interim until the end of the season. I just don’t know if PHil or JVG are options honestly. I’d prefer Van Gundy. Honestly, he’s one of my favorite coaches and this franchise has never been the same since he left

We need scoring. Specifically outside shooting. So I’d go with JR Smith.

  • chris b

Kobe?????? Takes more shots then Melo, Westbrook, ……

  • http://twitter.com/TrueHorrorNet Jason S.

I’d take Whoopi Goldberg at this point over this guy.
When you play basketball you need a power forward, a small forward and a center. we have one of the best players in that position at each of those positions. we do need a PG. But overall the team is in good shape, I like our players, but if Melo is going to score, Amare needs to work on other things, like defense and rebounding. Its a team game so EVERYONE is to blame at this point for something or other, but I seriously would take any coach, the players look bummed out and unenthused, I really believe a change in philosophy would help wake the players up and get them excited again. Any coach that creates a steady rotation with defined roles would help for one.

idk why i think this, the knicks havnt done anything to make me feel this way but I think the knicks are gonna come out tonight and play with fire and win the game. idk why but there was something about the way melo looked last night that made me think this sh** show won’t last much longer. as i said I have no clue why i think this, i can just see us really playing hard tonight.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BHJLFDUARUDEWGEMPKXMVPPOUI A.K.A

this is how i see things ..Frustration is what makes you better, when you’re sick and tired of losing and letting opponents disrespect you is when your pride comes and you play with more passion – i think the Knicks seen this Team as a Shoe in to get to the Playoffs and relied more so on watching Carmelo and Amare do what they do …that’s why they stand around watching them , now if you notice Landry is attacking and other players are creating their own shot ..not to say they are good shots
but the Coach is not getting them to move the ball …when i see Teams like Milwaukee move the ball it really makes me disappointed because that’s all it takes ..a few passes around to make the defense work..Melo getting Ejected lastnite was an indication of the Boiling Point the Knicks are at – we need more Vigor , more Warrior mentality ..when we face Teams they should Fear us..not run around doing what they please

that is the Thing that Knicks need to move on…everything else will fall into place
but without that killer instinct and smart basketball ..we might miss the playoffs
i noticed in the game versus The Bucks that we switched less but there was no communication which gave Milwaukee some open looks – we have Balkman and other players that can come in and bang and bruise opponents i say let them do it
in order to take a Team out of their game is to make them uncomfortable..and it seems that’s what Teams are doing to us

TD – needs not to force the game, instead he should just be a defensive monster and let the offense come back to him..i think he is trying too hard to please everyone instead of just playing good basketball

LANDRY – i dont know if he reads this Blog or not but he stepped up and is back to his Attack and Hustle form..he does make a few mistakes still but he is starting to click

SHUMP – by far one of the more consistent and even though his defensive is very good he needs to drive more and draw the defense so he can kick out , he can draw fouls too

MELO – is feeling pressure as well as banged up with a couple Injuries – should believe in his Team but it seems like it’s a personal struggle with him to carry the Team

STAT – seems he’s due to start beasting again , he is getting his legs back but he should just be a force in the paint and keep banging

CHANDLER – is playing great and is basically that 12-10 player we expected
he can be a little more ferocious on opponents though

Everyone else needs to play smarter and not rely on Melo and Stat but Rely on Team Basketball –
We are missing some Key Components i would like to see
a natural PG and a consistent SG as well as a Enforcer off the Bench

    these are what build Champions

and if Teams don’t respect the Knicks neither will The Knicks
the Ship is sinking but can be saved i still believe in this season

  • chris b

I am not going to hate on Tyson, we paid a lot for him, basically we could have got an entire bench for him. He does the same thing Amarie does on offense, Amarie is not a stretch 4 and never will be. This is a large part of the offensive conundrum as I see it. Throw in no pgs, and poor coaching and we are right back to the Spenc Bob MacAdoo days. This team made the playoffs 14 straight years after that fiasco. We could also have gotten 5 good players for Amaries contract and had them insured. Did you note Sixers 3rd quarter prowess, according to Iggy, the coach makes ADJUSTMENTS at halftime then they warm up hard

  • chris b

    Great post

  • FRANKGIFFORDFAN

I know people like you. They try and spin things to try and make their point seem valid. You are constantly telling us about the great job Pringles did in Phoenix with Steve Nash and semi-allstars onhis squad. All the while you leave out his record with Denver and NY because he has not had his players. He came here to collect $24 million and he can’t coach defense and he can not direct an offense w/o Steve Nash. Why is it that every player
he comes in contact with shoots more treys than before he played for Pringles?

We can’t keep making excuses for Pringles. He MUST go now along with most of his staff either now or postseason.

This team will not be successful even with BD.You really do not understand
basketball .You make inferences about the players ,coaches ,GM’s and owner.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

Watching the way Melo play the last 5 nights has made me think its Marbury all over again. He doesnt listen to coaches, he ruins the offense. The other night Antoni was writing up a game winning play and Melo didn’t listen to him, and did the wrong thing on the court. It was a very simple play but he just didn’t care about what the coach was saying. That was when Shump shot that crazy 3 and we lost the the suns. Melo was suppose to trail shump down the court for a lateral pass and shoot the 3 and Melo didn’t listen.

I know Antoni sucks but George Karl is a great coach and he struggled with Melo. So i don’t know why every things another coach can come in and fix Melo and make the offense work.

  • PlugOne

im not saying his actual style of play, i worded it wrong. i meant his frustration and the way he got p*ssed off last night.

but yes i can see the resemblance of marbury. as i said idk why, but i can see us playing good tonight.

    hopefully we do.

Kobe can do whatever he wants he’s won 5 championships. I don’t love Westbrook i think he needs to learn how to play, if he didn’t play that way i think Thunder could be much better.

Not to mention those players don’t use 1 on 1 nearly as much as Melo does. Melo will try and go one on one for 8 or 9 mins at a time. As if he is the only one on the court. Than when the offense tries to get going, there are completely out of rythem, and have been standing around for the last 15 possessions.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

I feel bad for Chandler. He should have went to the Warriors and compete. He doesnt deserve this sheet.

  • TheHonorableHaS

I think if we had kept Carter and even Shelden WIlliams (to a lesser extent) and actually added a PG who had experience running the PG position (Tinsley, Pargo, West etc.) and a serviceable/defensive SG, we wouldn’t be reeling this way.

Delonte West (Tinsley, Pargo)/Baron Davis/Anthony Carter
    Bogans (Stevensen)/Shumpert/TD
    Carmelo/Fields/Jeffries/Balkman
    Ama_’e/Josh Harrellson
    Chandler/Shelden Williams/Jerome Jordan

There’s no reason that with 2 perennial All-Stars and a borderline All star we wouldn’t have hit the ground running in the East and have been rolling by now imho. Even with a”coach” who has no idea how to coach a team without having at least 4 people outside the 3 point line on offense and no clue what to do with a traditional PF (other than to play him at C) next to a traditional C.

I blame the front office, but it’s worth noting that the “coach” has consistently shown a penchant for rolling with what he has (never had a backup PG for Nash in Phoenix) and even under Walsh we never had a backup PG (three years) or a starting SG (last year).

  • http://twitter.com/TrueHorrorNet Jason S.

George Karl never struggled with Melo, maybe they didnt get along, but the Nuggets never SUCKED with Melo like we do…coaching the difference?!?

AKA I agree, there is plenty of time left, but I just dont believe this coach is the guy to make the positive change, what also is very telling is I dont know any fan aside from some online lunatics, who actually like our coach and want to get behind him, I dont know anybody that liked him from his first day on the job, That has to count for a little something as far as how hes viewed, If we won a championship with this guy, I would still be pissed that HE is the guy that got us there, to me , he is the antithesis of what a New York basketball coach should ever be. he is a used car salesman pretending to be something he is not….I cant take him much more. A team that keeps losing the same way over and over?!?! its his job to correct it and he does nothing in game and nothing between games. How can anyone blame the players when the coach has instilled zero into their gameplan..as AKA said, the ball movement with every other team is so simple, yet we cannot do it? I refuse to believe its Melo or Amare’s fault. Also we are usually DOWN by the time Melo starts having to take over and score, and thats because no one else can put the ball in the damn basket because most of them settle for jump shots.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

If there gonna play good tonight and play like sheet in the next game i don’t want them to play well.

I want them to contend for a championship, or to suck and fire Antoni.

Karl did struggle with Melo. He didn’t want Melo to use so much iso. He wants Melo to score within the flow of his offense. and Melo only made it out of the first round 1′s with Karl with some really good teams.

Everyone says now the Nuggets play basketball the way George Karl wants to play basketball. He couldn’t do that with Melo because Melo hogged he ball.

Melo needs to learn to score in the flow of the offense, if he cant learn to score without going 1 on 1 every time, Fields will struggle, Stat will struggle, and our team won’t be as good.

  • DylanNYK

Yup, its pretty weird. The Knicks did the same thing when they didn’t have a center! Its like a stubborn child is picking the roster. The thinking must be that if they can’t have an elite PG or an elite C, there is no point in having one at all. There are plenty of D-league/FA PG’s that could have helped us this year. We have to be the only team that has a D-league team and absolutely refuses to sign players from it!

Thank you for the ad hominem attack, ElGiffBo.

An ad hominem, is an attempt to negate the truth of a claim by pointing out a negative characteristic or belief of the person supporting it.

I guess the way the Melo trade has worked out has really got your shorts in a knot. People that were right on that really set you off.

Agree with everything written except that Bibby should play more mins.

  • Niv21

George Karl way! Is Cutting down all of his players minutes, so the playing time is more spread out to take advantage of his depth! Truth! That won’t work when you have a star player on your team! Yes it’s a different concept and he has gotten his players to buy into this! THIS makes Karl a better coach than Dantoni will ever be!

Karl has depth and is using it briliantly

  • DylanNYK

Yeah, don’t want to hear that s**t from Melo. We gave up everything because he used the Nets as leverage to force the Knicks to give up everything, and wouldn’t wait until free agency. He is right though. The Nuggets are good because they have about 10 starters on that team. The Knicks have three players that should be currently starting for an NBA team.

  • NYBBall05

It’s just too bad D-Will wants to be a net. Marshon Brooks, a returning lopez and a lottery pick isn’t horrible if you don’t get Howard. Next time maybe the Knicks will make a smart trade.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

you could have kept both. Why have Jeremy Lynn if he never plays?

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

Thats not the only thing. He could play Melo 35 mins a game. But with Melo on the floor he couldn’t run his offensive system the way he wanted to. It’s not about the mins, its about movement off the ball and hitting the open man. Since Melo uses so much one on one its hard to run a system.

  • TheHonorableHaS

You know what’s funny, I remember saying when we signed Ama_’e that we bidded against ourselves and no one was giving him that type of contract and everyone said “No, we had to give him a max contract because he would have gone to the Bulls, Nets, Suns etc.”, now all of a sudden those same people are saying his contract is the worst in the league lol.

    Interesting.

I think his contract was worse when we had all of that youth and no one else on his level, by the time Gallinari, Chandler and Mozgov matured into consistent players/contributors Ama_’e would have probably been about 32 and not able to play like a star level player (he’s not even 30 and it’s looking that way already).

Another thing no one mentions, Carmelo’s shot selection has clearly worsened under _’antoni and he shoots many more threes, especially early in the shot clock, looks he wouldn’t have taken under Karl, Harrington and Gallinari aren’t shooting the same threes they shot under _’antoni having the eternal green light replaced with some restraint and patience on offense.

Carmelo had his selfish moments in Denver, without question, but he had a coach who would pull him back in when he went off the deep end. _’antoni won’t even reel in a rookie (Shumpert) from launching 15 shots in a half, he’s never going to question Carmelo or Ama_’e's shot selection no matter how many bad shots they force or turnovers they create doing it.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

When the knicks introduce the Nuggets, the Nuggets old knick players will get a better cheer than the knicks players.

  • TheHonorableHaS

The “coach” benched him even then, to play Roger Mason at PG (for shooting no doubt smh), who never played that positon before, ever.

How do you go with a player unproven at that position in the playoffs over a savvy, widely respected veteran who’s done it in this league on winning teams?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IRBXKEIXVMOUMM7CTZYDYIOCBQ speedster

As bad as it is, we’re still the 8th seed.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

Trade amare to Jersey for Marshon Brookes. Now we have a SG who can score 20 points a game for the next 10 years. And in the off season sign Felton, Boris Diaw, and Elton Brand. This would be a much better team.

This team currently constructed is a bad team. Phil Jackson will not coach this Knick team. He wants good teams. We will not win a championship with this core group of guys.

  • DylanNYK

@johnschuhmann Fun stat: 111 of Denver’s 115 3-pointers have been assisted. No more pull-up 3s in transition from Mr. Big Shot.

This is why Denver is such a good team, and why I think we are going to get crushed tonight. The ball movement is so good on that team, and they have so many good outside shooters (Gallo, Afflalo, Lawson, Fernandez, Brewer, Harrington, etc). They use constant screens and penetration to get wide open looks. Miller and Lawson do a great job controlling the tempo of the game, and penetrating and finding teammates. If we try and switch, they are going to get a ton of mismatches, which they will take advantage of. If we are slow fighting through screens, they will get wide open shots. Hoping for the best, but not very optimistic.

  • FRANKGIFFORDFAN

Melo is far and away the best player on the Knicks.Pringles does not put him in a position to
play his game.He s/b posting up down low.He is playing hurt and had to leave one game.

All the 12-15 bloggers that were against the TRADE were and still are wrong.Every player we traded was a medium or below average player. You make inferences. You are the statistics man and report on the obvious. You were the last guy when they chose up sides and you can’t get over it.LOL

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IRBXKEIXVMOUMM7CTZYDYIOCBQ speedster

I think what bothers me about the way the discussion goes on this blog is that you have the protrade and antitrade people. The protrade are usually more promelo and antidantoni while the antitrade people are more proamare, antimelo, prodantoni. But the fact is that there is not a right or wrong answer to this and its a false dichotomy.

Dantoni is not the right coach for The Knicks and his system doesn’t stress defense well enough to win it all.

We overpaid for Amare, yes, but the pretrade Knicks were the closest thing Dantoni had to a team that fit his system since the Suns. And yes, we overpaid for Stat but the other guys could improve and we had flexibility.

We gave up too much for Melo. So now instead of overpaying one guy, we’re now overpaying 2 guys. And now we have a team that is far less suited for our coach’s style.

We then amnesty Billups to get Chandler (who we overpay for again!) and yeah it addresses our weakness at the C spot but now we’ve gotten rid of our only PG, thus exaccerbating the problem created with the Melo trade (ie, making this a non Dantoni team).

So now our coach, who was never fully embraced here anyways, is now completely unhinged and checked out and is coaching a team he cannot coach.

Hey, I still think Stat, Melo and Chandler can work. But its weird to me that the front office would make the Chandler move and keep Dantoni. I mean, you know what Dantoni can and can’t do and now you’ve given him a team that is not his style at all. Why not fire him at the beginning of the season. I guess they just really have a lot of faith that BD can fix this mess. I hope so…

How the hell is it this bad. A coach doesnt come in and make a team this much better.

  • Fields Fanatic

The funny part about the Nets is that they wouldn’t even part with Brook Lopez to get Melo. So what did they actually have to offer? So how we had to keep upping our bid is something I can’t figure out.

  • DylanNYK

Here are 5 players that could potentially help us more than Lin and Walker.

    Ish Smith
    Keith Bogans
    Gilbert Arenas
    Antonio Daniels
    Earl Boykins

I get that we are trying to save a roster space for K-Mart/Smith. But most if not all of those guys could be had for contracts that aren’t guaranteed. Its ridiculous that we keep scrubs on this roster, instead of at least trying to find a better replacement when their is no risk involved.

  • Niv21

Really! A coach doesn’t make a team better!! LOL! Right there is such a asinine comment

  • DylanNYK

Its funny, because before the season most Knicks fans were against giving up Gallo AND Randolph in a deal for Melo.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IRBXKEIXVMOUMM7CTZYDYIOCBQ speedster

I think someone else said it earlier but its true. The front office got way too complacent/cocky after signing Tyson Chandler. Instead of locking up Shawne Williams, they tried to shoot for the moon for Crawford. They got BDiddy and Bibby but that was it. Novak? Ugh. I mean, couldn’t they have snagged like you said Delonte? And how in the H did Dallas end up with Odom and not us? Wouldn’t the Lakers have rather dealt him to team not in the western conference? Nate wasn’t an option because of the coach but that’s silly because Nate has grown up since then and has accepted the fact that he’s not some all star and is better for the bench. The point is there were players to be had. I guess they figure BDiddy and JR Smith or Kenyon will save them

  • Niv21

Dude to say he could not win in Karl system is flat out wrong! Cuz he did! You can twist and turn any way you want! Fact he won there and that is all it should matter.

Here with Dantoni! its a different story! Dantoni can’t make 3 stars play in his system!

If i was the chairman! I would not stand from this crap from my CEO running my business!

Dantoni has failed to get the whole team to buy into his system. He needs Amare to try and sell it.

Melo has really kind of struck me as the type of player who can singlehandedly carry 4 other role players who can’t create their own offense to wins. I just don’t see how him and Amare fit together right now, and the fact that it’s taken this long and there’s still no improved chemistry between the 2 is very troublesome. It will be interesting to see if the return of Baron helps with this, but I’m not even sure it will. Melo is at his best in iso post ups and pretty much any isos- You can see that having him trying to run a pick and roll just isn’t working, all it does is bring a second defender towards him and he doesn’t have the basketball iq to figure out what to do then other than forcing a shot contested by 2 people instead of 1.

I think there’s a lot of blame to go around right now, particularly starting with the coaching staff and the front office, but Melo and Amare both deserve a lot of blame as well for a general inability to make others around them any better. For example, I thought coming into this season Melo would have to expand his game a little- either by becoming a better passer, a more efficient scorer, or preferrably a better defender. He has failed to do so. Likewise, I hoped Amare would expand his game a little more by either becoming a better defender or increasing his range to become an efficient Kevin Garnett 2 years ago on the Celtics type of player. He has failed to do either one of those.

So again, there’s a lot of blame to go around but Melo and Amare should not be escaping criticism right now by anybody. Both have been very disappointing so far.

  • illmatix

Amazing how far a half decent coach and a deep bench gets you…I think people are coming down way to hard on melo, yes we gave up a lot for him but I bet you if we didn’t make the deal for him folks here would be bashing the FO for not getting him.

Its been said here a couple of times in this thread, who the hell is he passing the ball to that is actually going to make a shot. We all know M_ is not the answer and he certainly isn’t the only problem but the team needs a shake up, it is obvious that we are not going as far as we thought before the season started but for the players sake we need to replace this coach already, this team stinks of him and the results are not going to change…this is the same garbage we’ve seen for the past 3 years regardless of who the players were

How many times have we seen the knicks lose to teams they are on paper at least better than, we can be pissed at the players lack of effort all we want but at some point when do we look at the coach and demand more from him?

  • TIFOSO6

Absent a point guard there is only one possible solution. Play two of the three big men
at one time and not the three. start with Stat and Melo, then bring in Chandler for Stat,
then bring in Stat for Melo. this will give them more room to work and allow them to
feed off his other. Still the bottom line point guard is the most important position in
    the NBA

  • Niv21

What is the part you don’t understand? Do you need clarification as to why Melo was not walking to the Knicks in the summer? Again!!! Really!

I’m glad i’m not a teacher! I would be very frustrated with some of you

  • Ds2488

The fact that Walker plays as many minutes as he does is mindboggling to me. Just another in a long line of odd coaching rotational decisions. The government has their X-Files to deal with the paranormal, we have our freaking Dantoni Files to deal with paranormal coaching decisions.

  • BiggieSmalls

great comment speedster and excellent analysis by HaS

a few things.. i really dont have a problem “over paying” for Amare in money or Melo in trade pieces.. these are two elite talents and with the rright coaching they can form the basis of a chip contender.. with Amare on a timer to break down we had to make the next move..

The Chandler move made sense given the wear and tear on Amare.. totally agree the move was made without the consult of _’Antoni.. . and the Woodson hire was done with no input from _’antoni either.. he is dead man walkiong and he looks it.. and sounds it.. It’s sad really.if i wasnt a knicks fan i’d feel bad.

Grunwald didnt have the pull in the org. to fire the coach .. and Dolan likely said keep _’antoni around to twist with a short rope half wrapped around his neck and Big Chief Triangle waiting int he wings.

yes it’s far from time to cut bait with respect to the “Coach” and yes there have been wild inconsistencies in what the “media” have told us over the past four years with no accountability

  • DylanNYK

Exactly. Coaching is especially critical in a shortened season, where teams are forced to expand the rotation. We are not losing games because we aren’t good enough. We are losing because we aren’t getting the most out of our players, and a lot of the blame has to fall on the coaching staff. How do we shoot under 40% from the field on a seemingly regular basis. If we had Melo take 50 shots, we would probably put up similar numbers!

  • knick4life

No one has signed Ish Smith yet? GET HIM GET HIM GET HIM GET HIM GET HIM

  • http://twitter.com/mjamal97 M. Jamal Green

Your accusations about posters like Fields Fanatic and myself are extremely childish. You can’t handle the fact that we were right about the Trade. You can’t handle the fact that we told all of you Melo stans that your precious trade would end in disaster and addressed no basketball needs and made The Knicks worse. You can’t handle the fact that all you have to hang your hat on is calling the coach names like you’re 5 years old. Even major sportswriters and newspapers can see what we saw all along.

Here’s a link from Jan 20, 2012 edition of the NY Daily News entitled: “Denver Nuggets walk away winners after NY Knicks gut team to bring Carmelo Anthony to Madison Square Garden:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/denver-nuggets-walk-winners-ny-knicks-gut-team-bring-carmelo-anthony-madison-square-garden-article-1.1009134#ixzz1k76SF8vv

So using Denver’s record since The Trade vs our record Since The Trade to backup our claim that the trade was a bust, and with no way to counter our arguments except for saying pringles pringles pringles you say we’re “Denver Fans”

I gave Mike D’antoni the benefit of the doubt due to the fact that I’ve never seen a coach asked to win basketball games with his roster turning over every 90 days. The man has had to coach 6 different basketball teams in 4 years which would be difficult for any coach no matter how good a coach they are. We gave him the first 2 years because they were just cap clearing years… we gave him last year because just as the Knicks were putting it together we traded our whole team for a me first, ball movement killing shooter who jacks up 20 shots a game and doesn’t make his team any better.

Now we’re asking him to win basketball games without a point guard, a shooting guard who can no longer shoot, and a center who brings no offense.

While I’m not thrilled about his rotations, I and others who actually UNDERSTAND basketball and the need for stability with a roster so that a team can develop chemistry and learn how to play with one another understand that he’s been put in a tough spot every year he’s been here. However we can also see that this team is going nowhere fast and as the coach he gets his portion of the blame for not being able to get it done.

You see I’m a KNICK fan. I was in the Garden rooting for the Knicks when we had guys like Michael Ray Richardson, Paul Westphal, Louis Orr, Juwan Oldham, Bob McAdoo, Spencer Haywood, Bernard King, Ernie Grunfeld, Pat Cummings (LOL), Lonnie Shelton, Maurice Lucas, Marvin Webster. I was rooting for the Knicks while we were being coached by people like Red Holzman, John Macleod, Stu Jackson, and Bob Hill

For a Melo stan such as yourself to question my love for the Knicks is laughable and insulting.

My thoughts: Many people will knock Melo but after watching his post game comments and then seeing the comments of his teammates, I don’t understand how Knicks fans wouldn’t want him on their team.

Hopefully the same tenacity and frustration will wear off on more of the Knicks players and translate into some W’s…

  • DylanNYK

He provides literally nothing to the team. He can’t shoot this year, and his defense is horrible. The coach did the same thing with Roger Mason last year.

  • Niv21

Someone Tweeted Allan Hahn asking about Ish!

Hahn responded Knicks not interested because he can’t shoot the ball!

I would like him tho! But i guess if we get him, we definitely have to let go of Dantoni

  • DylanNYK

I feel like Dolan is only keeping D’Antoni around so the fans don’t turn on him if we still suck with a new coach. His role right now is Dolan’s scapegoat. Not that he doesn’t deserve the criticism.

  • gonzo1234

simplest solution to our problems we start a charity to raise enough money to buy the team from Dolan (i know its wishful thinking)… but honestly at the end of the day with all the team faults and lack of fixing all point back to one man Dolan… Get rid of Dolan, bye pringles, bye bad FO, no more isiah connection. I don’ understand how Dolan is a successful business man but somehow is dumbest sports owner in the league

Oh yea we can call it the save the knicks foundation and we can use JJ as the posterchild for it

  • http://twitter.com/Heather_Rose_ Heather Robinson

The issue is the lack of movement on the offensive end. People are standing around the perimeter watching the P&R situations and it’s causing Melo to come off the screen and have nowhere to get the ball because when he passes it to an open teammate on the far side, they don’t shoot or they just end up swinging the ball back to him on the perimeter and he’s again forced to attack the basket which typically turns into one on one isos w/ him shooting at the end.

If they’re not going to run Amare in the P&R with Melo then they should be down screening his man away from the ball so that he flashes open at the top of the key for either an easy jumper or a quick dive to the basket for a score.

Amare has proven that he can play well in D’Antoni’s system with a big man in the middle, Shaq and Melo is a lot more of a willing passer than fans give him credit for. Of course as a scorer, he’s going to attack and look for his own shots but he’ll give the ball up when teammates are open and/or confident to take their own shot.

I honestly think Novak needs to get more playing time, as well as Harrellson. They’re both two big men that can stretch the floor. The knicks have too many players either afraid to attack/shoot or players settling for poor decisions in their shot selection. JJ can see time at the Center position but Novak and Harrellson should be getting the majority of that time.

    Rotations w/ Baron:

    Baron (Bibby/TD/Iman)
    Shumpert (TD/Fields/Walker)
    Melo (Fields)
    Amare (Harrellson/Novak)
    Chandler (JJ/Harrellson)

  • crackbillionair

Hope your son is well, of course. As for the other, didn’t you, or your site just suggest this week that waiting for Baron Davis would be your plan? Do you really need explained to you how stupid that is? Davis is not yet a part of the team. What would JVG say? Something like, ‘forget about guys who aren’t here. The guys who suit up have to do it.’ Waiting is not a strategy. It is not an action. It is an inaction. Van Gundy would advocate fixing their problems with a hard hat approach, in practice. So, when have we heard that from D’Antoni? Never. D’Antoni says ‘we have no rhythm’…’we have to find a way’…’we have to score a hundred points’…please. The man is a terrible coach. He has been pouting since they traded Gallo. He’s supposed to be the leader, and his tact is, ‘we are in a crisis.’ Really?
It’s nonsense. What if Davis can’t help the team? What’s the plan then? When is the plan, ‘we have to do this NOW’????? For D’Antoni, it’s always, ‘we don’t have a squad, we’re building a team, we don’t have the pieces, guys are hurt…
And you guys and Isola, the dolt himself, actually fall in line.

  • crackbillionair

Yup, a joke. Wait for Baron Davis is not an action, it is an inaction. The team does not have a hard hat approach. The coach sucks, and he has nerve asking for more time, and your site and Isola have some nerve for backing him up on that.

  • sprewellhasmouthstofeed

I for one would not mind if starmelo was traded for dwill…look, I realize that melo is a very prolific scorer..but he has crushed the psyche of a lot of players on this team…nothing is flowing..when the ball comes to him everything stops (but everyone already knows this).

Its basically a win-win. The russian gets his marquee star to represent brooklyn and we get a excellent point guard.

  • TheHonorableHaS

Listen, no one wanted to give up all off those players to get Carmelo and I for one thought it was a mistake to not at least wait until the 25th hour before upping our offer on the outside chance that Denver would blink.

However, it wasn’t a trade that this team with the right scouting and due diligence cannot recover from.

Wilson Chandler was a late 1st round pick (I’m sure we’ll have the opportunity to get more of those at some point lol), Mozgov was an under the radar big that no one knew of, Felton was a PG that wasn’t very high on the free agent list last year and can be replaced (perhaps with the mid-level) or by taking a risk on someone the way we did with Shawne Williams last year.

We didn’t trade away All-Star players, we traded role players and potential role players. Believe it or not those can be replaced.

We made it to the Finals with one superstar (Patrick Ewing) and a bunch of fringe/borderline NBA players (Starks, Mason) and veterans (Derek Harper, Rolando Blackman), troubled players we took a risk on (Sprewell) before.

There is no reason we can’t eventually make it with 2 stars (Carmelo and Ama_’e), a starting caliber C and arguably a borderline All-Star (Chandler) a former All-Star with star talent when healthy (Davis, hopefully he has a little left in the tank), a rookie full of potential, a solid role player (Harrellson) and a potentially solid role player (Fields) at some point. We just need to be smart, creative and have a little bit of luck to fill out the rest of the roster.

  • illmatix

Imo, melo is taking as many shot as he is because he is sick of this losing…he knows he is the most offensively gifted player on the team and at times he is trying to do it all himself….at the begining of the season he was he was passing the ball grabbing rebounds and doing the things we expected, people talk about making his teammates better…well he can’t make them shoot better or might crisp passes or fight through screens. But it is the coaches job to identify players strenghts and weekness’ and devise a plan to have to their stars execute theses plans on the court and set their teammates up for success not suckienes

What he can do and for all appearances isn’t at the moment is pull his teammates card and get in their faces when they aren’t doing what they are supposed to…all the greats did and todays allstars do it all the time. Its is up to melo and amare to take control of the team because this ” c’mon let’s go” bs isn’t cutting it…its their team and they need to get in the faces of their teammates and cut out all the buddy buddy crap

  • DylanNYK

lol yeah, its hard to blame him for not being eager to pass the ball to guys like Douglas, Walker, and Fields who can’t knock down a wide open 3-pointer. Right now, as sad as it is, we have a better chance of winning with Melo forcing shots. For all the criticism he is getting, he scored 35 points with an injured wrist!

I also agree that he needs to be more of a leader. Its clear that he loves playing the game, and doesn’t ever back down from other teams. But he needs to start directing some of that towards his teammates, who are all letting him down right now.

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

we have no more draft picks. Remember we traded them all?

  • http://twitter.com/seansrule sean matthew

Not saying I don’t want him but saying and doing are two completely different things. He says he wants to win but plays the game as if he doesnt have 4 other teammates. When the coach draws up a simple game winning play and you fail to listen and execute theres a problem with his mentality.

The reason everyone is standing around watching is because Melo is incapable of scoring within the flow of the offensive system. He couldn’t do it in Denver and he cant do it here.

In order for him to score he needs one on one isolations. This will happen for 25 possessions a game. How can offense work when people are standing around watching Melo play one on one?

When Melo isn’t doing it Amare does the same thing. Thats who these players are. How can an offense work with both of them doing the same thing?

How can Stat work the PNR when you have Chandler now running the pick n roll. I think Stat should run it over Chandler but neither of them have a post up game. IDK if they can work with out having a post up. The reason Bynum and Gasol can work is because they can post up and than kick it out to Kobe. We cant do that with Melo and Stat.

  • AbstractReality

What’s sad is that I didn’t even know they were playing last night, that’s how little I care about the Knicks right now. Honestly, if they don’t care, why should I? I’m not a fairweather fan, I promise, but I’m just tired of seeing the same garbage over and over.

The fact that Amare and Chandler have no post up game really limits what this team can do and will hold this team back for a long time. When you have all your money in your 3 biggest players someone has to be able to post up. If Melo post up he cant kick it out to Amare.

What’s with Melo stans? You contradict yourself from one paragraph to the next.I am not impressed that you saw the aforementioned players.I am older than you and I saw the pre championship Knicks.I never questioned your love of the game.i questioned your opinions and that is what everyone on TKB has opinions. You are not correct about Melo nor Donnie Walsh.Calling me childish relates to your replies on TKB.On most days you defend Pringles like you just did in this post and you say I don’t understand BB.
I played under two hall of fame coaches.I started in high school and college.
I may have picked up some understanding of the game.

I asked you before and I will ask you again,Explain the offense that D’Antoni is running this year.Does he have dumb players?Do we blame everything on the FO for not providing a point guard?Do you want to start all over next year with a new coach or should we find out if the players will function with another coach this year?

Btw,I never called you names like the kids that are becoming more prevelant on this blog.I question opinions and opinions vary.Until
recently with the Knicks losing more than 80% of sports analysts regarded
the TRADE as a building block and a step in the right direction,Donnie made a mistake in bringing in Stat for $100mil (uninsurable).I wanted Melo and CP3 as our building blocks(after LBJ,D.Wade and Bosh took their talents to South Beach).

  • chris b

your right. The fear I have is that Stat is burned from last year. I think he has more maladies then we know about. The knees don`t look good

  • illmatix

I will tell you that shumpert wasn’t looking for his shot at all last night but you’re right…it was ridiculous thou, jennings murdered us last night

  • BigTyme

Dats BS, at least he can run a frickin offense and PASS his ASS off! And his shot is just as good as Shumps….not so sure that was a great point to make, lol

  • BigTyme

BREWER! A guy who didn’t FIT in OUR offense…..HA

  • luvmynix

Two of the duties of a coach is to 1) ADJUST to the talent that he has 2) motivate the team to get the MOST and BEST out of the players. D’Antoni does the exact opposite of those things. 1) He doubles down on his 7 seconds or less BS, 2) He puts them down on a constant basis. Inspirational? If sports is 80 something percent mental, what is this guy doing coaching? He is the ultimate downer–his body language, his look! Notice how he just stares in space sometimes and shakes his head so that it looks as though it’s not his responsibility. Let’s take a WINNER type coach instead of a perpetual LOSER–Phil Jackson knew how to get into his player’s heads in a smart and positive way and if he was at all negative it was constructive and meaningful. Phil even had them meditate! Imagine D’Antoni even coming close to being innovative and imaginative with the Knicks. He simply STINKS in all areas of his coaching style! It’s time for some newness and basketball smarts to take over here. We need a tough coach with more than one layer to him.

I”ve never accused you of not understanding basketball that’s something you throw out there at those of us who disagree with you. If we don’t agree with you then “we don’t know basketball” I’ve just said you were a Melo stan… it’s as baseless as your accusation that I don’t know basketball simply because I have a different view of our current situation.

    Now for your questions

    1) Does he have dumb players – If you mean dumb as it relates to the basketball IQ of our roster..then yes our players are dumb as rocks. To my eyes Jorts has the highest BBall IQ on the team. He makes rookie mistakes but he executes pretty well at both ends of the floor.

    2) Yes the Front Office and Dolan get 50% – 60% of the blame. How in the hell do you assemble a team in the current NBA where guard play is so critical WITHOUT A POINT GUARD? WHO DOES THAT? If our owner knew anything about basketball or even the personnel he has on the floor and if he had any business acumen WHATSOEVER we would probably not be in such a mess. As I’ve complained before..the Moves that have been made over the past year were made to justify fleecing the fanbase at MSG and apparently TWC. Not to build a team to contend with the top teams in our conference.

    3) Mike Woodson sucked as a head coach. So the idea that we have Pat Riley on the bench is laughable. His defensive concepts are no better than D’antoni’s. The only reason our “defensive rating” is good is we’ve played horrible teams and we actually have a big man in the middle. It’s not like we’re locking anyone down. However Mike D’antoni is not using the personnel he has on the team and keeps sticking with the same things that don’t work. He goes with Jeffries over Jorts. Our best 3 pt shooter is riding the pine. Our only other true point guard who CAN penetrate off the dribble and at least change the look and tempo of the team when he’s not falling down out of bounds just got sent to the equivalent of the siberian wasteland known as the D League.

For that reason alone Mike D’antoni should be let go sooner rather than later. This season is over so letting Woodson get some burn at the helm wont hurt our chances of making the post season since we are going to be fighting for the 8th seed..if we’re lucky..which will end in another first round exit.

    nuke and pave

  • FRANKGIFFORDFAN

Nice reply.1) the players are not dumb in BB IQ.The coach has a low BB IQ IMO.He refuses to adjust and does not put the players in position to succeed.
    2) Dolan is not at fault. It was Walsh and now Grunfeld
    3) I agree about Woodson but I prefer him as interim to see what our players can do before the off season trades.

  • NumberOneHeadband

No actually he should pass to the other sharpshooters on our team like …

  • NumberOneHeadband

That’s good cuz got when this ship turns around in a few weeks we’ll all know exactly who the idiots on this blog were. Then again the tradehaters will probably change their names to MeloLova69 or some sheet like that.

  • NumberOneHeadband

All that sbeen proven is that the Knicks (without all your precious role players) and with Melo are a .500 team like before. Now when we get the right role players during this rebuilding phase you wanna jump down people’s throats and say you were right and say the trade was bad. Damn dude wait till the team is complete at least! We don’t even have a pg or sg and you wanna call the Trade a bust and throw an I Told You So party? Juvenile man.

  • NumberOneHeadband

Next you gonna say they “Turrrible”

  • TheHonorableHaS

    LOL

We have them in odd years, we cannot trade them in consecutive years so we will have about half of what we should have for a few years and if the front office is smart they should trade Fields and Douglas for a 1st rounder in the next draft which is supposed to be very deep.

  • TheHonorableHaS

Because we had too many guards already lol. You could blame the front office, but _’antoni said the guy wouldn’t play right after Donnie said he expected him to contribute.

Walsh and Mike were always disagreeing on players from the very start (Marbury).
