The First Annual Untitled Sports Media Awards Project

by Tommy Dee on July 29th, 2011 at 1:30 pm

I kindly ask that if you are a fan of TKB and our work here, feel free to nominate us for any of the various categories listed here.

A few tidbits from 2010-11

We were the first outlet to report Amar’e Stoudemire’s interest in joining the Knicks as a free agent.

I was fortunate enough to be on a great team of panelists with tremendous production on July 1, 2010, which earned a NY Emmy for our coverage of the Lebron James decision, which, of course, we didn’t get right but at least we made our case, one that appeared on ESPN decision week.

Time spent as NBA panelist on Versus’ The Daily Line during the frenzy that was last summer.

Consistent reporting and coverage during the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes.

TKB Radio with Rice Balls…and Spike Lee.

Thank you to all loyal reader of TKB and we appreciate you allowing us on your computer screens and, of course, feel free to completely ignore this post entirely.

ESPN: Melo and Amar’e “Overrated”

by Tommy Dee on July 28th, 2011 at 5:21 pm

Need NBA hits during a dormant season? Bash the Knicks. Seriously.

Neither are overrated at this stage. Amar’e in a few years based on numbers and zero Finals appearances? More likely. Melo knows at this point he’s asked and received the attention that comes with NY. He will be vilified here if he doesn’t perform and lead the Knicks to title contention. Not to poke fun TBB, but Scottie Pippen greatest small forward of all time?

Come on.

Finger point to Ghanem Daibes for the link

This is a Process

by Tommy Dee on June 13th, 2011 at 11:50 am

When Lebron decided on Miami my first reaction (other than to sit in front of the computer and be with the great and loyal fans of this site and of the Knicks to talk about it) was from an Xs and Os perspective. I never knew how Wade and James would mesh. I was on SNY talking about how I believed it to be in Lebron’s best interest to play in the pick and roll with Amar’e Stoudemire. That made the most basketball sense.

What you saw in this finals was a heat team that had no chemistry offensively, despite having 3 of the best 4 players on the floor most of the time. There was no flow, poor spacing. If you can keep the heat out of transition, which the Mavs did for the last 4 games of the series, then you can beat them in crunch time.

James not utilizing pick and roll was a mistake. But the biggest mistake, to me, is the simple fact that James chose a rather submissive role with Wade with the team and it was a big part of the team’s issues. Yes, they made it to Game 6 of the NBA Finals, but how they blend in the half court of big games moving forward will be the hump they will have to get over in order to win championships.

How does that relate to the Knicks? Well, for sure we saw the issues with Carmelo and Amar’e, but they had great moments together. I believe it to be very important for the team to keep this core group and the Fields’ and Douglas’ of the world because the chemistry is there even if Fields struggled down the stretch. I’m only trading either for veteran role players but I’d be hesitant.

Frankly, I like where the Knicks are at this point. They can score in transition and in the half court. They can play at different paces. If they can get the help they are looking to get up front, then they should have sound success moving forward if they focus on the defensive end.

Dirk Nowitzki is a terrible defender but a good rebounder and can score in several post situations.

So can Carmelo Anthony.

The Mavs proved what we’ve been saying for some time.

This is a process.

@alanhahn: For the fourth time in his career, Amar'e Stoudemire was named second team All-NBA. #fb

Stoudemire is the first Knick to make All-NBA 2nd team since Patrick Ewing made it in 1996-97. It is his 5th All-NBA selection.

D-12 up to NYC? Amar’e Just Got Here…

by Tommy Dee on May 10th, 2011 at 11:01 am

Via Newsday

It seems like Donnie Walsh is treating the negotiations regarding his own future the way he handles most trades: slow and steady. From what I have heard from various sources, Walsh isn’t as much angling for total control as he is for a more controlled environment for the players. Appearances with David Letterman and Regis are no big deal and it’s not as much the crowds that gather around the court before games at MSG – the players actually like that because it creates a big-game buzz and atmosphere every night. It’s the madness that exists elsewhere, such as in the post-game locker room at the Garden, where visitors are mixed in with members of the media to create an environment unlike any other in the league.

I’m hearing very similar things…

And as far as the Dwight Howard stuff, I think we can all agree that the Lakers have the inside track there if Orlando wants a Shaq part 2 re-do, but if the Knicks were to take back a wretchedly bad contract like Arenas’ then the Magic might listen.

I think I’d stay away from that one though. That’s the worst contract in the NBA.

Amar’e Not Looking Good for Game 4

by Tommy Dee on April 23rd, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Via Bergen Record

Amar’e Stoudemire said today his injured back “feels a little bit worse” than it did before he played Game 3 against the Celtics on Friday and “has to get better” for him to play Sunday in Game 4.

“There’s definitely a risk” of further injury if he plays, the Knicks’ big man said, but in the 26 hours from the time he spoke today to Sunday’s tip-off, he hopes to improve enough to play in a game that, if the Knicks lose, would end their season.

Obviously, long term injury makes no sense in a series down 3-0.
