Game 24: Nets at Knicks

by Tommy Dee on February 4th, 2012 at 5:54 pm

When: 7:00

Where: MSG

Network: MSG-YES

Knicks (8-15)

PG: Iman Shumpert

SG: Landry Fields

SF: Carmelo Anthony

PF: Amar’e Stoudemire

C: Tyson Chandler

Bench: Douglas, Walker, Jeffries, (hopefully D’Antoni makes adjustments here)

Nets (8-16)

PG: Deron Williams

SG: Anthony Morrow

SF: Shawne Williams

PF: Shelden Williams

PF: Kris Humphries

Yes, both Shawne and Shelden will be in the starting lineup, if it remains the same as last night. And why wouldn’t it? Anthony Morrow went for 42 as the Nets fell to Ricky Rubio’s Wolves.

Obviously, should the Knicks lose and drop to 8 games under .500, it would be a new low for the season.

Game 20: Knicks at Rockets

by Tommy Dee on January 28th, 2012 at 6:10 pm

When: 8:00 PM

Where: Houston

Network: MSG

Knicks (7-12)

SF: Landry Fields

PF: Amar’e Stoudemire

C: Tyson Chandler

Rockets (11-8)

PG: Lowry

SG: Martin

SF: Parsons

PF: Scola

C: Dalembert

Via ESPN

Houston (11-8) is averaging 102.8 points during an 8-1 run, making a 3-7 start to the season an increasingly distant memory. Martin missed Friday’s home game against Washington due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but the Rockets didn’t miss a beat and routed the Wizards 103-76.

Houston’s top scorer at 20.1 points per game, Martin is averaging 29.3 over his last four games overall, and 28.1 the last seven times he’s faced the Knicks (7-12).

If Martin is unable to return, Chase Budinger would likely increased playing time again. Budinger took advantage of the opportunity Friday, scoring a season-high 21 points and adding eight rebounds while sinking 4 of 6 3-pointers after not having appeared in the three previous games.

Game 15: Bucks at Knicks

When: 7:30 PM

Where: Garden

Channel: MSG (Or Time Warner customers search Twitter for free streaming links)

Bucks (4-9)

PG: Jennings

SG: Livingston

SF: Delfino

PF: Leuer

C: Bogut

Knicks (6-8)

PG: Iman Shumpert

SG: Landry Fields

SF: Carmelo Anthony

PF: Amar’e Stoudemire

C: Tyson Chandler

Can the Knicks control another point guard, pick and roll heavy team? Please God stop switching.

PLEASE.

The good news is that they are better up front and Chandler can neutralize Bogut. The rest comes down to making shots. Need to defend Delfino on the perimeter.

Game 12: Knicks at Thunder

by Tommy Dee on January 14th, 2012 at 4:58 pm

When: 8:00 PM

Where: Chesapeake Energy Arena

Channel: MSG

Knicks (6-5)

PG: Iman Shumpert

SG: Landry Fields

SF: Bill Walker

PF: Amar’e Stoudemire

C: Tyson Chandler

Bench: Jorts, Douglas, Jeffries (Anyone else? Bibby? Balkman? Novak?)

Thunder 10-2

PG: Westbrook

SG: Sefolosha

SF: Durant

PF: Ibaka

C: Perkins

Tough spot for the Knicks here as they will be without Carmelo, but will that mean more pick and roll situations? That is something that I’ve been going back and forth with on Twitter today. Playing Amar’e at the 4 puts Chandler in the way as it relates to the quick bounce pass. Plus, their PG play has been non-existant in the pick and roll.

Even if they play well offensively, will it matter against Durant and company?
We will see. The Thunder are tremendous.

Game 6: Bobcats at Knicks

by Andrew Smith on January 4th, 2012 at 6:03 pm

When: 7:30 PM

Where: MSG

Channel: MSG (or Time Warner customers search twitter for free streaming links)

Knicks (2-3)

PG: Toney Douglas

SG: Landry Fields

SF: Carmelo Anthony

PF: Amar’e (Game-time decision) or Jorts

C: Tyson Chandler

Bench: Bibby, Walker, Novak, Jordan, Shumpert (Game-time decision)

Bobcats (1-4)

PG: D.J. Augustin

SG: Gerald Henderson

SF: Corey Maggette

PF: D.J. White

C: Boris Diaw

Bench: Biyombo, B.J. Mullens, Kemba Walker, Derrick Brown, Matt Carroll

Hopefully, the addition of Amar’e (even not at 100%) convinces the Knicks to not settle for outside shots and take advantage of a weak Bobcats interior defense. To me, the lack of movement off the ball is causing the large number of outside shots. Let’s hope we see some chemistry start to form tonight rather than just hoping we score off isolation plays.

The Bobcats are coming off their third consecutive blowout loss and are riding a 4-game losing streak after an opening night victory. The Cats will most likely be missing Tyrus Thomas again, which obviously plays in the Knicks’ favor.

The keys to tonight’s game are 1)establishing an early lead with transition points and points in the paint against an undersized team on the tail of a back-to-back 2) neutralizing Diaw who facilitates the offense as a stretch 4/5 allowing Augustin to play off the ball.

Game 5: Raptors at Knicks

KNICKS 2-2

SG: Landry Fields
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: JORTS

Bench: Bibby, Lin, Walker, Balkman, Jorts, Novak

Raptors 1-3

PG: Calderon
SG: DeRozan
SF: Butler
PF: Bargnani
C: Johnson

We’ve all seen some kind of magical transformation in Andrea Bargnani, who is far more engaged and aggressive defensively than he’s ever been and, yes, I’ll give you that it’s only four games and we need to see it for 10 or 15 or 20 before we start singing Hosannas.

But it’s such a change that I had to shake my head when it became apparent that the best player quote after Sunday’s game came from a guy who has seldom really given us anything we’d want to write down.

“You see how good we can be, everybody can see that. We have to start to learn how to win, otherwise it doesn’t count. We have to show people we can finish games.”

Yeah, that was Andrea.

And he was dead right. They’ve looked very good on the two games on this trip, were okay for most of the night against Indy and dominated Cleveland for most of the opening night.

Game 4: Knicks at Kings

KNICKS 1-2

Kings 1-2

PG: Evans
SG: Thornton
SF: Salmons

Kings preview (thanks SacTown Royalty)

Jimmer Fredette broke out on Thursday against the Bulls, getting some heat against the very good Chicago second-unit defense. He had 14 points on 5-10 shooting, hit 2-4 from long-range and has quietly scored in double figures in two of his first three pro games. There’s plenty of room to grow, but he looked comfortable against a very tough defense on Thursday. That’s encouraging…If anyone needs an opportunity to look more comfortable, it’s Tyreke Evans, who is drawing a lot of the heat for fans both here and on talk radio. Luckily, he gets to play against Toney Douglas and Mike Bibby tonight. The Knicks got killed by the Warriors‘ backcourt earlier this week, and you hope that repeats itself, that Evans and Thornton just make life miserable for the New York backcourt while the Knicks’ two high-octane forwards — one of whom, Amar’e Stoudemire, is questionable for the game.
