Houston (11-8) is averaging 102.8 points during an 8-1 run, making a 3-7 start to the season an increasingly distant memory. Martin missed Friday’s home game against Washington due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but the Rockets didn’t miss a beat and routed the Wizards 103-76.

Houston’s top scorer at 20.1 points per game, Martin is averaging 29.3 over his last four games overall, and 28.1 the last seven times he’s faced the Knicks (7-12).

If Martin is unable to return, Chase Budinger would likely increased playing time again. Budinger took advantage of the opportunity Friday, scoring a season-high 21 points and adding eight rebounds while sinking 4 of 6 3-pointers after not having appeared in the three previous games.

Tough spot for the Knicks here as they will be without Carmelo, but will that mean more pick and roll situations? That is something that I’ve been going back and forth with on Twitter today. Playing Amar’e at the 4 puts Chandler in the way as it relates to the quick bounce pass. Plus, their PG play has been non-existant in the pick and roll.

Even if they play well offensively, will it matter against Durant and company?
We will see. The Thunder are tremendous.

Hopefully, the addition of Amar’e (even not at 100%) convinces the Knicks to not settle for outside shots and take advantage of a weak Bobcats interior defense. To me, the lack of movement off the ball is causing the large number of outside shots. Let’s hope we see some chemistry start to form tonight rather than just hoping we score off isolation plays.

The Bobcats are coming off their third consecutive blowout loss and are riding a 4-game losing streak after an opening night victory. The Cats will most likely be missing Tyrus Thomas again, which obviously plays in the Knicks’ favor.

The keys to tonight’s game are 1)establishing an early lead with transition points and points in the paint against an undersized team on the tail of a back-to-back 2) neutralizing Diaw who facilitates the offense as a stretch 4/5 allowing Augustin to play off the ball.

We’ve all seen some kind of magical transformation in Andrea Bargnani, who is far more engaged and aggressive defensively than he’s ever been and, yes, I’ll give you that it’s only four games and we need to see it for 10 or 15 or 20 before we start singing Hosannas.

But it’s such a change that I had to shake my head when it became apparent that the best player quote after Sunday’s game came from a guy who has seldom really given us anything we’d want to write down.

“You see how good we can be, everybody can see that. We have to start to learn how to win, otherwise it doesn’t count. We have to show people we can finish games.”

Yeah, that was Andrea.

And he was dead right. They’ve looked very good on the two games on this trip, were okay for most of the night against Indy and dominated Cleveland for most of the opening night.
