@BrandonTierney: encouraging sign for Knicks/Nets: Philly, Raps, Cavs, Pistons, Wiz and Bobcats off to a combined 3-18 start thus far.

Nov 3, 2010 @ 11:59 AM from webThe discouraging things is that they’ll have to get wins somewhere along the line. But look at the Knicks schedule over the next few weeks and there is some reason for optimism for a solid November.
As we reported the other day, Lawrence Frank will return to the Nets as
head coach, according to a report on WFAN. The note was published in the Post yesterday.
I understand people not familiar with TKB may have found it strange that such a note would appear on a “rival” blog, but when I sent the note to SNY, where my NBA column appears, it was linked to here.
What we knew, and was confirmed by our source is that Rod Thorn is a big fan of Frank’s, although not everyone in the organization is. But the fact that they would have paid Frank a buyout may have been the overriding factor in the decision to keep him. Plus, it’s Thorn’s call.
Frank, who’s weathered the storm as the Nets try to position themselves to add some talent after trading both Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson, has a roster that consists of plenty of young talent including Brook Lopez and Ryan Anderson so the organization must feel Frank is the right coach at this time.
While it’s great for college basketball, news of prospects staying in school
has made it somewhat difficult for fans of teams in this year’s NBA draft lottery to get excited. Just this past week, both Greg Monroe and Cole Aldrich have headed back to campus, leaving the depth of big men behind Blake Griffin and Jordan Hill rather slim. As we know, the Knicks have a giant need in the middle.Willie Warren also pulled a Rodney Dangerfield and headed back to school. Warren, the standout freshman from Oklahoma, could have met a need for the Knicks in the eighth slot as he can play both guard positions, another one of the Knicks many needs. more.
This is a project that we had in the works for a while and overall I think it went well for the initial show. Frank and I will also be doing some NBA stuff as the playoffs approach.
In thinking about it, Augustin was there at 6 and maybe Donnie could have traded down for the PG, but with so many guards Gallinari, to me, was still the right pick.
Let me know what you guys think.
I’ve already said, to me, Ewing is the greatest Knick statistics or not. Patrick Ewing wins a ring, maybe more than two, if he plays on those early 70s teams and moves Willis to the 4.
Bernard King has a small body of work but was unbelievably good at a time where the Knicks needed a star and his playoff performance was most impressive small body of work in the team’s history.
And we know about Clyde and Willis.
I’m taking Ewing, because if Willis and Clyde tell you Patrick was the best, I’m buying, but I remember Bernard and he made the Knicks really relevant against great Eastern Conference teams in the early, mid 80s. That speaks volumes for me.
